The following poems from the June 1, 2010 Poetry fishbowl are currently available. They may be sponsored via PayPal, or you can write to me and discuss other methods.
"Assumptions of Precedence" -- 25 lines, $10
From this I got the free-verse poem "Assumptions of Precedence," about some scientists attempting to introduce hawks to an alien planet as part of the terraforming process.
"The Composition of Cooking" -- 26 lines, $15
From the prompt about science vs. skill I got "The Composition of Cooking." This free-verse poem explores the different aspects of cooking to create a multi-dimensional image of the process.
"
Dragon Candy" -- 24 lines, $10 SOLD
From the "dragon" prompt I got a humorous free-verse poem "Dragon Candy," in which an armored knight unwisely attacks a pair of dragonets.
"
The Flashpoint of Analysis" -- 20 lines, $10 SOLD
From your "true neutral" prompt, I got a very thoughtful poem written in free-verse quatrains. "The Flashpoint of Analysis" explores the thought process of a neutral character. It's not paralysis: it is patience.
"Furry Virtues" -- 12 lines, $10
From "cat and dog" I got the poem "Furry Virtues," explaining how our pets embody our ideals. This one has a nice twist at the end! It's written in free-verse tercets.
"Insistent Chemistry" -- 13 lines, $10
From "ripe and not" I got the free-verse poem "Insistent Chemistry" about the sun turning berries from sour to sweet.
"Manifold Humanity" -- 47 lines, $20
I combined your "spiritual/mundane" with "male/female" and "physical/spirit" from
shadowsculptor. The result is "Manifold Humanity," a free-verse poem exploring some of the opposites and complements that we encounter as spiritual beings having a human experience.
"
Mountains and Plains" -- 18 lines, $10 SOLD
From your prompt about "people of the mountains/people of the plains" I got the poem "Mountains and Plains," a comparison of different types of wilderness and the people who love them. This is written in free-verse tercets.
"Owl Feathers and Lead" -- 58 lines, $20
The "love and apathy" prompt led to a rather creepy poem about Cupid hunting down uncaring people and shooting them with the arrows of indifference. "Owl Feathers and Lead" is a free-verse poem.
"Patterns of Effect" -- 14 lines, $10
From "spots and stripes" I got a poem about camouflage effects in animal species. "Patterns of Effect" is written in free-verse couplets.
"
Restoring the Force" -- 24 lines, $10 SOLD
The "logic vs. emotion" prompt reminded me of something that has always bothered me about the Star Wars mythos: it stuffs eastern philosophy into western dichotomy, nearly destroying a galaxy in the process. So "Restoring the Force" explores what went wrong and how to fix it. This one is written in free-verse tercets.
"Sound and Silence" -- 10 lines, $5
From "loud/quiet" I got the poem "Sound and Silence," about the nature of noise and noiselessness. It is written in free-verse couplets.
"
The Wheel of Light" -- 16 lines, $10 SOLD
From "purple and yellow" I got the poem "The Wheel of Light," which presents the complementary colors in their pairs. This is written in free-verse quatrains.
