ドカ食い

Meaning: to devour in a rough fast way

Example: すごいドカ食い。

Notes: Just thought I'd mention this word, since a friend misused the word 'やけ食い', which means to eat large amounts because of stress. She was supposed to use ドカ食い. However, やけ食い is more often used.

ヲタ

Meaning: Otaku (geek, nerd)

Examples: このヲタが！[You otaku!]／ヲタっぽいことしてるんじゃないよ。[Don't do such otaku-ish things.]

Notes: Went from オタク→オタ→ヲタ. I suppose オタ is used most, but this word can also be used. Other shortened otaku words would be メイト, which is a short version of the ever famous アニメイト in japan. :D

ベタ

Meaning: typical; unoriginal

Example: 靴箱にラブレターとかいって超ベタじゃん。[Love letters in shoe boxes are so unoriginal.] ／ つくづくベタな考えしか思いつかないな、おまえ。[You're ideas are always so typical.]

Notes: I see this around in mangas a lot, and it's used in school too. No idea how the word came to be, but it's not on the dictionary yet I think.

友チョコMeaning: valentines chocolate for a friend ( Read more... )

ミーハー

Meaning: people who easily get obsessed with the latest trend (such as the latest anime/manga/fashion etc.); a low brow

Examples: なんで私のまわりはミーハーばっかりなんだ。

Notes: Originated from 「みいちゃんはあちゃん」, which means young people with low leveled knowledge and tastes. Basically ミーハー's squee over anything anyone else is squeeing about.

スルー

Meaning: pass through without acknowledging; ignore and pass by; pretend a comment never existed

Example: 私のコメントは見事にスルーされた。 [My comment was brilliantly ignored.] ／ 昨日池袋であったときスルーしただろ！ [You ignored me yesterday at Ikebukuro, didn't you!?]

Notes: Comes from 'through', for passing through.

ウザイ

Meaning: annoying; a bother

Example: あの先生まじうざいんだけど。[That teacher is seriously annoying.] ／　掃除うざ～！ [What a pain, cleaning!]

Notes: I'm sure many of you know this word, as it's like the king of Japanese words. This word holds a much more evil meaning then 'annoying' at times, and is also used lightly- but you feel really hurt when someone does ( Read more... )
