Alternate Universe is codename for Poor Writing
The post that I made way back when said I’d be ranting about diary fics, and that one is in the works, but inspiration struck today, and thus I will be ranting about a different topic.
I’m sure this will infringe on some other people’s rants, but today I’m going to discuss Alternate Universe stories involving Lily and James.

Essay: Dealing with canon in the Lily/James relationship
I’m calling this an essay, because, to me, a rant is more spur-of-the-moment and angry. I’ve given a lot of thought to this subject and I ended up writing this, wanting to fight some of the clichés that have somehow wormed their way into the L/J fanfiction and made people accept them as canon, when they most obviously aren’t. Just a quick note to let you know the community has a needlerific new layout. (Yes, those are actually my knitting needles. Not my favorite ones, but they'll suffice.) There's a new matching icon to go with it. Huzzah! 7th Year now has a symbol - the needles and the spork. How exciting!

This time around, instead of focusing on clichés (and believe me, there are lots of ‘em) I shall be ranting on the subject of canon-rape. Canon-rape has been addressed in this community before, but I would like to direct my attentions towards the one character who has suffered more than Lily at the hands of canon-rapists.
