Took the kitten to the vet Tuesday. The vet thinks he's (yes, it's a boy) is younger than I guessed--only about 6 weeks old. He weighs not quite two pounds, and although he has worms and fleas (both addressed by the vet), he's generally pretty healthy. Even the vet commented on how loud his purr is.

I can't believe that my first post in weeks is a grammar tip, but I've seen this particular error in half a dozen fics over the past few days and it's getting on my very last nerve. Even good writers who usually have their grammatical shit together are making this mistake.

I saw something on the highway involving an animal tonight that was so horrifying that I can't even write it down here. I've told myself that there was nothing I could have done about it, but that's not helping to get the image out of my head.

If you have a pet, give it an extra pat or hug tonight and make sure it's safe and knows that it's loved.

My best friend, S, and I met as college freshmen; she lived two doors down from me. We ended up working on the college newspaper together, starting out as copy editors. One of the reasons I haven't been around LJ much lately is that my Old Lady Cat has been very sick with kidney disease. This morning, her condition had deteriorated to the point that I had the vet euthanize her.
