Chapter 8 Nino snickered quietly to himself, wondering if the game worked. Any normal person wouldn't be the same after playing that kind of horror game for the next couple of days.
“What's so funny?” Aiba whispered over to him, seeing as they were in class. Nino grinned back and shook his head. If it got out that he actually went on a date- wait, no, it wasn't a date- with Ohno...Well, it just couldn't happen.
Nino wasn't allowed to stay after school much anymore (his dad got suspicious, even though he really did go to the music room), so he went looking for Ohno during lunch.
“Sho-kun?” Nino called out to the older student, who was reading the newspaper. Sho jumped slightly at the name, but he grinned widely at Nino.
“Hey, looking for Ohno?” Sho asked, putting the paper down.
“Um, yeah..Know where he is?”
“I think he said bathroom, but you could wai-”
What, is he puking? Nino wondered gleefully, smirking. “Alright, thanks!” Sho raised an eyebrow as Nino left the room to the bathroom. When he entered, he found Ohno washing his hands.
Ohno's eyes met Nino's through the mirror; Nino swallowed, suddenly feeling weak. Ohno smiled softly and turned around to meet him face to face, eyes mockingly so.
Nino mentally swore, remembering that Ohno wasn't normal and he probably wasn't affected in the least from the game.
“What's up?” Ohno asked, drying his hands. Instead of answering, Nino's eyes were locked onto the older student's hands. What could he say?
“I, um... How'd you find the game?” Nino finally asked after a few seconds silence.
“Oh, it was interesting,” Ohno said simply. Nino sighed softly, looking away idly and stuffing his hands into his pockets.
“Thanks,” Ohno said softly, bringing Nino's eyes back on him. “It was a nice date.”
“You know...I hate it when you say stuff like that but it feels like you're just making fun out of me,” Nino groaned. Ohno's lips quirked up in amusement.
“I don't lie, you know.”
“Still,” Nino grumbled. He glanced at the other student, who started moving and headed towards the door.
“Coming?”
Nino sighed softly and followed Ohno out. Another student walking by bumped into Nino, making him fall down. He glared at the kid, who he realized was the bully back in junior high. The student only laughed and walked away, leaving Nino on the floor. Rolling his eyes, Nino glanced at Ohno who looked like he was holding back a laugh.
“Oh go ahead and laugh then, why don't you,” Nino muttered, getting up himself.
“Aw, do you get bullied?” Ohno pat Nino's head, but Nino flinched and quickly moved away, looking burnt. Ohno raised his eyebrows.
“Sorry...Memories,” Nino sighed and looked away, almost shamefully. “It's not like I really care or anything, you know. They're all just a bunch of assholes.” He looked back at Ohno. “So are you.”
“Well, at least you like me.” Ohno shrugged and continued on his way back to his classroom, Nino following him warily. “Sho-chan, sorry for the wait.”
“Ah, no problem.” Sho smiled at the two and moved over to make space for them. Nino shook his head as Ohno sat down.
“I should go...I only came to..check on things anyway,” Nino said.
Sho watched him leave the classroom, then looked to Ohno who was starting on his lunch. “You're not doing anymore unnecessary things, are you?”
“What are you talking about, Sho?” Ohno smiled. “Everything is necessary, if I want him to warm up to me.”
Sho sighed internally, wondering if Ohno's tactics really did get Nino to warm up to him at all.

Nino glared darkly at his piano music sheets. Nothing he wrote lately sounded nice at all, and at this rate his dad would surely scold him. Nino glanced at his cellphone, hesitating and then picking it up. He stared at Ohno's number in his contacts, wondering when the hell Ohno put it in.
Pressing the button, Nino held the phone up to his ear, his heart thumping.
“Yo,” Ohno's voice came through.
“Ah- ….”
“Did Nino-chan just want to hear my voice? I'll talk as much as you want me to.”
“Stupid,” Nino muttered. He couldn't really talk too much himself, since he didn't want his dad hearing him on the phone while he was supposed to be practicing the piano. “I'm playing the piano.”
So Nino played the music he wrote so far.
“It doesn't sound that good,” Ohno said once Nino was done.
“I know that,” Nino snapped. However, for the next half hour, Nino didn't hang up with Ohno. Rather, Ohno was like his teacher, saying what needed improvement while Nino played.
“Isn't this funny? I was your art tutor a while ago, now I'm your music tutor,” Ohno said, after he approved of Nino's music. Nino scowled, not thinking it was funny at all.
“I'm going to sleep now,” Nino announced, climbing onto his bed with the phone still to his ear.
“Shall I sing you a lullaby?” Ohno asked, then starting to sing before Nino could stop him. Nino rolled his eyes, but a fond smile stole over his lips. He laid down, closing his eyes and listening. Ohno's voice didn't sound too bad.
“Goodnight, Nino,” Ohno said softly. When he got no answer, Ohno smiled and hung up, wishing he could have given Nino a goodnight kiss.

The rain was pouring down hard by the end of the school day, but Nino didn't have an umbrella with him. He couldn't rely on Aiba or Jun for an umbrella, since they already left and Nino hadn't realized the trouble he was in yet.
Deciding that the rain wasn't going to lessen at all, Nino sprinted out, soon stopping under the shelter of a tree. Suddenly an umbrella was offered to him, and Nino recognized the hands as a girl's; he was slightly disappointed it wasn't Ohno.
“What?” Nino snapped, more for his annoyance of actually thinking that. He recognized the girl from one of his classes, but he never really talked to her much.
“S-Sorry, I just..you didn't have an umbrella, so...” She was blushing, Nino noticed.
“It's okay, I'm fine,” he said with a more gentle tone, though it was enough to clearly get the point across that he really was fine without a girl's umbrella. She nodded and apologized, then quickly walked away.
Nino sighed and looked up at the cloudy sky, feeling that if it was Ohno, he probably wouldn't have much of a choice and Ohno would have walked Nino home with the umbrella anyway.
“Do you want to get sick!?” Nino's dad yelled at him almost right after Nino walked into his house. Nino frowned and looked away. “You have a performance soon, yet you walk home in the rain like it's nothing and then wet the whole house!”
“It's only the entrance,” Nino muttered under his breath when his dad wasn't looking.
“Well don't just stand there, go dry yourself up and practice your piano.”
“Yes, sir,” Nino said quietly, going quickly into his room. He heard his father yell at his wife to clean up Nino's mess, which actually did make Nino guilty. He never did like it when his mom got into trouble because of him.
Nino took a long bath, almost dreading to have to practice. He didn't have any grudge against the piano or anything, but having to be forced to play was never encouraging. And besides, Nino missed his guitar, which was still kept safe at Aiba's.
Nino's eyes were fixed on his cellphone, peeking out of his pant's pocket. But he couldn't call Ohno. He would get into trouble if his dad found out.
Getting out of the bathtub, Nino slowly began to dry himself and dress. When he went back into his room, his mom was sitting on his bed waiting for him.
“Mom?”
“Kazu-kun, I talked to your father..” Nino raised his eyebrows questioningly. “We've decided that it's alright if you can hang out with your friends again after school, but you have to do your best in that performance.”
Nino smiled brightly. “Thanks, Mom.” She smiled back and left the room.

Nino went up to the school roof during lunch time, just needing to have some space to think. Unfortunately, his thoughts were about Ohno. He was thinking about Ohno a lot lately, after that birthday da- meeting. Nino just didn't know what to think.
But Nino knew he had to stop hiding at some point.
“Nino, it's cold outside.”
Nino looked towards the voice and frowned. “Oh, it's you.”
“What's with that ungrateful tone?” Ohno pouted. He wrapped his arm around Nino's waist.
“What are you doing?” Nino sighed. “We're still in school you know.”
“It's cold,” Ohno said. Nino looked at Ohno exasperatedly.
“Then don't come out here!”
“But Nino's out here.”
“You're so annoying.”
“I guess so.” Ohno smiled. “Nino, go out with me.”
“Of course not!” Nino snapped, taking Ohno's arm off of him. “I wish you'd stop saying stupid things like that. You know, if you were really serious about me you're supposed to feel hurt or whatever after getting a rejection.”
Ohno was silent for a few seconds, then he smiled bitterly. “But you aren't taking my feelings seriously.” Ohno's eyes looked cold; Nino couldn't help but shiver, though he was ready to blame it on the weather.
“You aren't rejecting me,” Ohno said.
“What- I definitely am! I'm saying no, I do not want to date you nor do I want to have anything to do with you!” Nino retorted, already feeling confused.
“Then reject me seriously.” Ohno grabbed Nino's shirt and brought him close. “Nino, I love you,” he whispered with all seriousness. Nino flushed, pushing Ohno off roughly, and he quickly fled.
“God fucking damn it,” Nino muttered, clutching a stitch in his side. He dropped to the floor once he found shelter in an empty classroom on the bottom floor, trying to catch his breath.
“It's not that simple,” Nino whispered shakily to himself, angry. “How can I reject someone I love?”
