I've been trying to cut back on caffeine/coffee consumption. I've apparently been successful, as a medium cup of coffee had me in severe jitters mode earlier today. At least my heart hasn't been racing and my arteries/veins haven't been rhythmically bulging the way they did a few years back ( Read more... ) -

Reflections on Rome, Note 4: The Catacombs
Families would sometimes have little rooms (vaults, of a sort), and these are often decorated with artwork. While not the same style as modern iconography, you can see the beginnings of it in depictions of the life of Jonah, and representations of our Lord as the Good Shepherd. Reflections on Rome, Note 3: The Imperial City
Our second full day in Rome was spent exploring the ruins of the Ancient City. We spent about an hour at the Coliseum, then moved on to the Palatine Hill (read: the White House) and the Roman Forum (the Mall) by way of the Arch of Constantine (no equivalent). The day ended with a trip to Santa Maria ad Martyres, the-church-that-was-the-Pantheon.

Reflections on Rome, Note 2: The Vatican
First things first: Merry Christmas! Christ is Born! Glorify Him!
We spent the first full day in Rome in the Vatican. We beat the huge line into the Vatican Museum by signing on to a tour group (Wisdom! Let you attend!). What shall I render to the Lord for all His bounty to me?
I shall lift up the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord!
I will pay my vows unto the Lord in the presence of all His people -
In the courts of the house of the Lord, in thy midst, O Jerusalem.
