The calendar says spring. The arrival of the robins, red wing blackbirds and killdeer say spring. The incessant snowflakes laugh in my face as I shiver and continue to wear my Columbia winter jacket. How totally amazing rain can be when you haven't seen it in a long time! It's been about six weeks since we had a good rain and today we are having an amazingly good rain! I DO enjoy watching my cow out in the pasture, happily grazing on the clover and ever so intently watching her young'un. It makes me think of a slower time of happy, lazy summer days. This event has been a long time coming! Every year a business in Bad Axe gives away a snow blower to the lucky person who can guess when the first inch of snow will fall. Some years we get an inch before Halloween, which is the entry deadline. This year we got all the way to Jan 15th! We were blessed with 4 inches of snow over 1/4" of frozen ( Read more... )

Most years this is a very welcome thought. January Thaw. A respite between winter storms - a chance to clear the sidewalks of ice - a breather.
