Bikes:
I've finally gotten the trail gator installed on my & Patrick's bikes - it works fine, but having it & the toddler seat makes for a long set-up - helmets on all 3 of us, Ian in up front, me next, then Patrick in back. Assuming P's bike is still attached from last time. It takes me about 5-10 minutes to hook his bike up while Ian's wandering ( Read more... ) -
Biking with kids update II
I managed to install the front bike seat (i-Bert front child seat) yesterday during nap time, and test it just after Patrick got home from school. It works well enough that I've removed the old rear-mounted toddler seat.
Notes on this seat:
* I can still use my front panniers!

Technology update
Mini-Zune - it sizzled quietly after it's 'bath' for a day, and after drying out for slightly over 3 days, it seems to work still. The battery doesn't hold much of a charge, but given Dan usually just uses it in his office, it's come through in great shape.
Dishwasher: seems to still be working, juts needs 3 - 5 minutes to whir to itself before ( Read more... ) -
NWRSA Conference

I spent last Thursday - Sunday at the NWRSA conference in Salem OR. [Or at least part of each of those days]. Thursday Ian & I rode down with Marilyn just after dropping P. off at school. A day of electronic deaths
It's been a rough day for technology here -
1) at about 8:30a, Ian managed to slip Dan's mini Zune into the toilet since it's small enough to fit through the gaps in between the bowl, seat & lid [yes, the lock was on.]
2) at about 6:15 pm, the skid sensor on our minivan started triggering while driving out of the farmer's market parking lot. This ( Read more... ) -
Biking with kids update
I just realized the solution to wanting to tow Patrick & carry Ian on my bike at the same time is to replace our existing cheap rear toddler seat with a front mount seat. I've already ordered an i-Bert front child seat which, if it fits with me & my bike, means I can use a Trail Gator to tow Patrick's existing bike; provided I also switch out his ( Read more... ) -

Machine knitting blather
Tonight I managed to use my bulky knitter for the 3rd time, with a minimum of confusion. [Leaving it set up on the stand helped.] I got a little better at oiling it, thanks to Q tips, and figuring out that the oiling diagram shows the carriage in tuck-in setting. I also conquered starting a new ball, and changing a bent needle. Not too shabby ( Read more... )
