It's a disgrace.

I have been having an enormous difficulty articulating my feelings about the handing out of The Geoffreys a few weeks back in Salem, USA.

It's just so typical of the wretched Academy to choose Collision (a gross pro-Muggle propaganda film) as the Wizarding Picture of the Year over Callouspalm Hill, a tragic love story of two dragon tamers. This ( Read more... )

As much as it pains me to agree with you, Malfoy, the Geoffreys were especially bad this year.

I can't believe whats-her-name didn't win for her portrayal of that gendermagus.

Collision was fairly awful, and you know now they're just saying it's because it was set in Salem and the voters basically like seeing themselves. Bunch of knobs, if you ask me.

Though, it was rather fun when that "Hard Out Here For a Phoenix" won. Hexing the host during their acceptance speech was brilliant.

The host was mighty good-looking this year, though! He sounded so familiar, too.

Collision wasn't nearly as bad as 113,000 Galleon Sprog last year. And Paul Goblinmatti wasn't even nominated!

This year was bad, but last year was significantly worse.

THAT MOVIE WAS TRULY TERRIBLE. I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD'VE WARNED ME BEFORE I SPENT GOOD MONEY ON SEEING IT.

I CAN'T BELIEVE HILARY SWINE WON, EITHER. SHE WAS DEFINITELY NOT SUPERIOR TO THE OTHER NOMINEES, AND HER DRESS WAS HIDEOUS.

SHE LOOKS LIKE A THESTRAL.

i heard it was a good film, though slightly controversial. was it really pro-muggle? i thought the intent of it was to show that we are all alike, no matter how we were born, not that any one group is better than another? that's how i understood the situation, though mind you, i haven't seen it. i did hear that the characters in it are complete stereotypes though, so i can see why you might be upset.

i was rather surprised the dragon tamer movie didn't win, everyone seemed to love it. i heard that the Romanian tourist board is being flooded with requests for information on vacationing at Callouspalm Hill and are having to turn them all away because it is not a real place, just one made up for the film!

Yeah, that's what the rest of wizarding world calls 'pro-muggle'.

I THINK WHAT EVERYBODY'S TRYING TO GET AT IS THAT IT'S NOT ONLY PRO-MUGGLE, IT'S ACTUALLY ANTI-WIZARD.

I'VE HEARD THAT, ANYWAY, BUT I THINK IT'S COMPLETELY STUPID, IF YOU ASK ME.

I don't watch major studio pictures, so I wouldn't know. I did read, however, one review which claimed that it fit snugly into an 'imperialist pureblood-supremacist capitalist patriarchial narrative of muggle/wizard relations'.

Draco, just because it's the first major film of this sort doesn't mean it's the best. It's not that the other nominations were that much better, of course, but I think it's exaggeration to act like this was the most deserving film ever. It's still a success, with or without the Geoffrey, yet it still doesn't succeed in portraying a fulfilling and lasting romance to mainstream audiences.

And it's hardly hopeful when one of the lovers ends up barbequed by a dragon.

Your logic doesn't appeal to me, Padma.

Very well, Draco, but you could always make your own film.

Way to spoil the ending for those of us who fell asleep during it!

Callouspalm sucked! There was nothing good about the film. It was boring and long, and had too little dragons. And the dialogues? So cheesy!

"I wish I knew how to grip you!" - Oh, please.

I'm glad Collision won. Though I also enjoyed Good Morning and Break A Leg.

Overall the Geoffreys were good, if it hadn't been for the montages. Honestly, who cares for the "Most Magnificent Uses of Lumos in Film Throughout Ages"?

I thought it was used wonderfully in The Splendiforous Zeppelin Adventures of Filliam H. Muffman.

I always find it to be a sad day when I agree with you, but Collision rightfully won, in my opinion. Was I the only one who found Callouspalm Hill to be ridiculously over-rated? It was an - er - sweet love story, but no-where near as gripping and honest as Collision was.

Er, was I the only one who found the montages interesting and insightful? It reminded me of the great films of the past and how wonderfully they were created. They made me long to see more intellectually-inspired stories, which are greatly lacking in this day and age.

THE MONTAGES WERE CRAP. THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO CONVINCE US TO GIVE THEM MORE OF OUR MONEY BECAUSE THE WIZARDING WORLD HAS FINALLY DISCOVERED THE INTERNET.
