Part 1 Part 2A Part 2B Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Zhou Mi glared at him, his knuckles turning white. “I really don’t think you’re in any position to make demands Siwon.”
Kyuhyun seemed to tense even more before crawling closer to where they stood. “Mi please just listen to him!”
The Chinese man turned his gaze towards Kyuhyun an indescribable expression on his face. Siwon shifted even more to draw the attention back to him. He had to get them out of this situation. He knew full well that despite the others being outside they couldn’t enter in fear of setting off Zhou Mi.
“What have you got left?”
“Siwon you never really learn to shut up. Do you actually want another bullet in you?”
Ignoring the threat he persisted, after all Zhou Mi still hadn’t killed them despite all the threats he’d been making which Siwon took to be a sign of hesitance. “What about Kyuhyun? Surely whatever Zeus is paying you isn’t worth it!” At the mention of his name Kyuhyun moved from behind him, shifting until his gaze was locked with Zhou Mi. “Mimi…please, is he blackmailing you? Or is it something else? You know I’d do anything to help you!”
He watched the taller man’s face carefully. The normally bright and smiling face was twisted into an unfamiliar frown. The gun in the tight grip shook slightly.
“You still care about him.”
At Siwon’s words Zhou Mi snapped his gaze to him, words tumbling out. “No. I don’t. His father was the reason my family’s gone.” Siwon could feel himself tense at those words, immediately regretting it when his leg throbbed in protest. “What are you talking about?”
Ignoring him Zhou Mi shot a glance at the window. The others outside had gone suspiciously quiet. Although whatever he saw seemed to pacify him enough to continue.
“It’s not money or blackmail that’s making me do this. So what if Zeus is gone? He’s given me the revenge I want.”
“R-revenge?” Kyuhyun stood unsteadily and moved to stand next to Siwon. “What are you talking about?”
Zhou Mi sneered at them, the gun steady once more. “Your father ruined my family. Eight years ago he did a hostile takeover over our family’s business.”
Siwon chanced a glance at Kyuhyun only to feel his heart constrict at the forlorn expression on the others face.
“…”
Zhou Mi chuckled mirthlessly. “Do you know how it feels to watch your family break apart in front of you? To watch as your mother starts to spiral into depression, your father begging for any jobs available.” A bitter laugh. “That’s why I’m doing this. To see your family suffer the way I did. Zeus offered me this chance in exchange for joining his group.”
Something in Siwon snapped as he watched the heart-breaking expression on Kyuhyun’s face. “So you let yourself be manipulated by Zeus? Even if that was true then it was Kyuhyun’s father, not him!”
“True, but killing Kyuhyun would kill him like it did my family.”
Before he could rush towards Zhou Mi for the heartless words a strong hand gripped his arm. “…I didn’t know.” At the whispered words they both turned to look at Kyuhyun.
“Mi. I’m sorry for what my family did to yours.”
“’Sorry’ isn’t going to bring them back! ‘sorry’ can’t do-“
“Shoot me.”
Kyuhyun said those words with quiet confidence and Siwon felt the icy rush of fear spread through him. “Kyuhyun what are you saying?!” He felt the hand on his arm give it a gentle squeeze before Kyuhyun stepped closer towards Zhou Mi, his hands in a placating gesture.
“Kill me and get your revenge Mi. I know that this won’t replace your parents o-or fix everything but this is the revenge you want right?”
Zhou Mi’s face had become expressionless, although he nodded. Siwon watched in horror as Kyuhyun stopped in front of the taller man, right in front of the gun.
“No matter what Zhou Mi you’re my best friend, even if the two years of knowing you were a lie. Promise me you’ll let Siwon go.”
With steady hands Kyuhyun slowly brought the gun up to his temple and closed his eyes. Siwon felt frozen at the sight before stumbling to pull Kyuhyun away; however before he could reach his injured leg gave way and he tripped onto the floor.
“Kyuhyun!”
Ignoring his shout Zhou Mi continued to stare at the slightly trembling figure in front of his gun.
“…Kui Xian.”
A tear ran down his face as the gun wavered. Siwon crawled painstakingly closer but his leg throbbed painfully at the action.
“I…I’m sorry Kui Xian.” Despite those words Siwon could tell Kyuhyun was giving Zhou Mi a smile as he waited for the shot.
“It’s okay Mi. Just think, you won’t have to keep playing StarCraft against me anymore right?”
Kyuhyun gave a weak chuckle, his eyes clenched tightly shut. Siwon could feel his heart thudding helplessly as he watched.
“…I can’t do this. I can’t shoot you.”
Everything seemed to slow down as Zhou Mi brought the gun up to his head.
“I’m sorry.”
It was all moving in slow motion as Kyuhyun snapped his eyes open, as Siwon watched helplessly from the floor.
“You’re my best friend too.”
The gunshot rang out as Zhou Mi shot himself.
--
“Thanks Siwon.” Kangin ran a tired hand over his face. “You’re free to go. We’ll get the statement from Kyuhyun later. I think you better go talk to him.” The older man gave a nod before walking back towards the other agents on site.
Siwon let out a long sigh. The headache that had faded came back in full force. The moment Zhou Mi had shot himself he had pulled Kyuhyun from the back causing the other to fall backwards, Siwon could only hope he had been quick enough to prevent Kyuhyun from seeing the gruesome sight.
He had no doubts this would haunt the younger man. He glanced at the house that they had been in only hours ago, a life time ago. He remembered the others had rushed in the moment Zhou Mi’s gunshot rang out.
The blood, the sudden silence as they stared.
Siwon shivered slightly, pulling the borrowed jacket closer. His gaze searched for a familiar person. He moved slowly to the huddled figure by the ambulance, stopping when he was only a foot away.
“Kyuhyun…”
The huddled figure turned to look at him, eyes red but relatively dry. It was silent for a moment before Siwon suddenly found himself with an armful of Kyuhyun, quiet sobs escaping. He gently returned the hug, words of comfort spilling out of his mouth as he rubbed comforting circles on the others back.
Somehow he knew everything would be okay.
They would be okay.
