The Thumper rule or the lack of constructive criticism in fan fiction
There is a distinct lack of constructive criticism in fan fiction. I've read enough complaints recently to know I'm not the only who has noticed this.
The problem is that most people who are capable of intelligently dissecting a story are not willing or able to hurt feelings.

Beta request - oh boy
I was really surprised to get a beta request for The Mentalist. I don't follow the show. The writer told me that my lack of interest in the show was one of the reasons she wanted me to beta the story for her. ( Read more... ) -
Incest in fic
A friend recently (at lunch) went off about an author, of a story she was reading, who didn't warn for incest. (Based on the number and types of other warnings the author did supply, I'm sure that lack was an accident.)
