Last night turned out to be a complete clusterfuck. When we arrived at the Chandler Center for the Arts at 5:00, we learned that a transformer had blown earlier that afternoon, and the building had no power for the sound system, air conditioning, some lighting, and many of the outlets backstage. I just got back from seeing Steely Dan live with my friend Steve.

WOW. Just WOW. The concert completely exceeded my expectations. They played for two hours straight, and the band was terrific - filled with very talented players, many of whom I am familiar with in jazz circles. The drummer, Keith Carlock, was just an animal! He really ( Read more... )

Today we had something different at work - an external speaker. Apparently, hosting a series of external speakers is one of the things Intel is trying to do to improve morale. (Although it's hard to top free sodas.)

Every year, during Gay Pride weekend, a mass commitment ceremony is held for gay/lesbian couples in Atlanta, and probably in many other cities as well. Sometimes 100 or more couples participate. I know they have been held at the last two Marches on Washington, in 1993 and 2000 ( Read more... )
