So I'll be attending the American Society for Microbiologists' General Meeting from May 16 to the 21st. In Philadelphia. I don't really know anyone around the area. But my work is paying for me to fly out there, go to this conference, my meals and my hotel room while I'm there ( Read more... ) -
Swine Flu
Everyone on my project has been voluntold we'll be working on the swine flu. I guess my office gets the questionable prestige of sequencing it, although from what I hear it's not going really well.
I'm on the bench until the current sample receiving is completed. -
A Few things, all related
A) We're getting a bird!
After I sent off an angry, frustrated (but polite!) e-mail last week to the Mickaboo coordinator, it seems I was able to get them to remember that we have a house waiting, open for a bird to foster, and they had an amazon who is in need of a foster home *eye roll*

I'm travelling again!
I'll be in Philadelphia for a week in May!
Work just approved me to go to the American Society for Microbiology's General Meeting (ASM GM)!
I'll be learning all sorts of new cool things, making contacts in the field, and work will be footing the bill!
I'll be in Philly from May 16 -21.
Also, I'll be in Denver, Co in August. yaaaay travel! -
Social rules continue to confuse me...
If someone gives you their business card, what are you supposed to do with it? Keep it on file for any future reference? Is it like getting someone's number, and you should e-mail them or call them in a professional manner within the week? If you wait a couple months without contacting them, should you expect them to remember you, even vaguely ( Read more... ) -

I'm quite a bit excited.
