Title: All or Nothing (10/?)
Author: totallytamara
Rating: PG-13. Jeeze, I had no idea I could swear so much.
Disclaimer: I don’t know any of the people portrayed in this story, therefore I don’t own them, either. This wasn’t written in the spirit of offending anyone, it was written for the sake of creativity. I’m not making any money from this; it’s just for fun!
Summary: Kris stood up and walked towards the front door, not even knowing what he was doing but knowing that he had to do something.
Notes: So I just re-read the last chapter, and I have to say, I pretty much hate it to death. LOL! But I hope this one is better, definitely not as angsty (at least, I think so). I think you guys will like it. Thanks so much for all the comments and for reading. I really appreciate it. Enjoy!

P.S: I'm thinking there will be two more parts and then the series is finished. It's getting down to the wire! ;)

Part 1 , Part 2 , Part 3 , Part 4 , Part 5 , Part 6 , Part 7 , Part 8 , Part 9

Kris sat on his couch, the TV on low, twiddling his thumbs. It really seemed stupid that he’d be sitting there waiting, waiting for what he wasn’t even sure was coming. But Adam had promised. Kris didn’t want to give up hope, but he most certainly felt pathetic sitting there all day, just waiting, staring at the phone.

It was almost 3 o’clock before the phone rang. Kris jumped and snatched up the phone in a single movement. He had a huge, stupid grin on his face as he answered.

“Hello?” Kris greeted expectantly.

“Kris?” a voice asked on the other end. It certainly wasn’t the voice Kris had been expecting, and just hearing that the other person wasn’t him, Kris’s heart deflated.

“Uh… yeah?” Kris replied, trying to keep the disappointment at bay.

“Hey. It’s Brad. Is this a bad time?” the voice, which Kris now knew was Adam’s ex-boyfriend’s, said. Kris had met Brad a few times and he was always so sure of himself and snarky and just everything that Kris wasn’t. Yet in that moment, Brad sounded more scared and unsure than Kris had ever felt in his entire life.

“No, it’s fine. What’s up?” Kris asked, an uneasiness coming over him.

“Uh, okay, so this is probably really weird, me just calling you out of the blue. And I’m sorry but I just… I didn’t know who else to call. It’s about Adam,” Brad began, that panicky tone in his voice sending chills up Kris’s spine.

“Adam? What’s wrong with Adam?” Kris asked. He could feel his hands start to shake. Adam had been perfectly fine just last night…

“It’s just… well, Allie and I were over there earlier and he and I got into it. We were talking about you and all of a sudden the conversation turned to Ben and he got all defensive. Then we just started yelling at each other and I had to leave before the fight escaladed. But I’m really worried about him and I can’t get through to him. I thought you might be able to,” Brad explained.

“Is he okay?” Kris demanded, expecting the worst.

“I… I don’t know. It’s like he’s isolating himself, getting rid of all his friends without even knowing it. Then he’s not going to have anybody and Ben will have exactly what he wants. I don’t think Ben’s as sweet as Adam has him out to be. I have a really bad feeling about him,” Brad said.

“You see it too? I thought I was the only one,” Kris sighed, somewhat relieved that someone else had seen Ben’s true colours.

“Yeah, I see it. But Adam doesn’t and I need you to try and help him. Please. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to him…” Brad trailed off. Kris didn’t know what to think of what Brad had said. What did he think was going to happen to Adam?

“Yeah, of course. I’ll give him a call and see what’s going on,” Kris replied, trying to steady his voice.

“Thanks, Kris. I really appreciate it. Call me back when you can, okay?” Brad asked.

“I will. Thanks for letting me know,” Kris said quickly before hanging up and speed-dialing Adam.

Kris waited and waited. Ring after ring. Nothing. Adam’s voicemail picked up, and Kris felt like he might scream. What the hell was going on? Something wasn’t right. Kris sped to his front hall to put on his shoes. He grabbed his keys and fled out the door, rushing to his car. He had to find Adam. He just had to.

Kris drove as fast as he could, not really caring that people were honking and screaming curse words at him. He just had to get to Adam. Within five minutes, he was in front of Adam’s house. He undid his seatbelt and flung the door open, slamming it shut behind him as he ran towards Adam’s place. He climbed the porch steps two at a time and then banged on the door.

The minutes ticked by, and the door went unanswered. Kris banged on it again. No answer. He had pretty much lost hope and was seriously contemplating trying to break the door down when he thought about just trying to talk to Adam. “Adam!” Kris shouted. “Adam, its Kris! Please open the door!” Kris waited, and heard steps coming towards the door. The door was opened and there was Adam standing on the other side, his face red and splotchy soaked with tears.

“Adam!” Kris shrieked, not expecting to see his best friend in such a state. “Adam, oh my God! What happened?” Adam didn’t answer. Instead he just walked back into the house and sat down on the couch, his head hung low. Kris came inside and knelt down in front of Adam. “Adam, it’s okay. You can talk to me.”

Adam sobbed, and it was probably one of the most horrible sounds Kris had ever heard. It felt like his heart was being crunched into a million pieces, listening to Adam cry. “Please. You have to talk to someone. Everybody’s really worried about you.”

“T-That’s just it,” Adam whispered. “I can’t talk to you. I can’t talk to anyone.”

“What? That’s ridiculous!” Kris exclaimed. “You can always talk to me.”

“I can’t!” Adam shouted. Kris jumped back, surprised at Adam’s outburst. “I can’t. He made me… he said… he’s going to…”

“Adam, what are you talking about? Please. I want to help you so badly but I can’t if you won’t tell me what’s going on,” Kris pleaded. Adam looked at him, his beautiful eyes hazy with tears, and Kris felt his heart break all over again. “Please…” Kris whispered, desperate to just get through to Adam.

“I… I want to tell you but I’m s-scared,” Adam muttered, wiping his eyes.

“You have nothing to be scared of with me. You should know that,” Kris said, elbowing Adam slightly in the rib. Adam tried to laugh but it came out more like a cough.

“It’s not you I’m scared of…” Adam replied quietly.

“Who is it?” Kris prodded. When Adam didn’t answer, Kris tried to figure it out by himself. It couldn’t be Brad. Even though they had fought, and even though Brad could be quite a sassy bitch, Brad wasn’t in the least bit scary. Allie? Nah. At that moment, it dawned on Kris. There was only one person that could bring such a reaction out of Adam.

“It’s Ben, isn’t it?” Kris said, and Adam burst out in tears again. That was the answer Kris had expected. “Adam, what did he do?”

“I… he… he hit me,” Adam replied, grabbing onto Kris shoulders and pulling him closer. Adam hid his face in the crook of Kris’s neck. Kris could feel his pulse getting wild and he was starting to see red.

“What? He hit you?!” Kris tried to calm his voice so that Adam wouldn’t get freaked out, but he just couldn’t. “He fucking hit you?!”

“Kris, stop,” Adam muttered into Kris’s neck. “Don’t do anything. Please.” Kris didn’t respond. He didn’t want to promise Adam that he wouldn’t do anything. Because if Kris ever saw Ben again, he was sure that he’d beat the shit out of him.

Kris took a few deep breaths. Adam was still crying into his neck. Kris wrapped his arms around Adam’s back, rubbing slightly. He thought that it would be soothing, but at the contact, Adam jumped back and away from Kris, his eyes wide.

“Adam, I’m sorry! Did I hurt you?” Kris asked, panicked. Adam shook his head, his eyes still huge. “What’s wrong? What did I do?”

“N-Nothing…” Adam replied. “It’s nothing.” Kris looked down at Adam’s hands and noticed that they were shaking.

“He didn’t just hit you, did he?” Kris inquired. Kris had a hard time believing that Adam would get this jumpy over Ben just hitting him. Adam never got like this when Kris had hit him… Kris shuddered at the thought.

Adam didn’t answer. He just stared into Kris’s eyes, tears springing to them again, and Kris immediately knew that the answer was no. “What the hell did he do to you, Adam?” Kris demanded, his voice rising.

“I… I can’t,” Adam shook his head. “I promised.”

“Fuck him! Tell me, goddamn it!” Kris shouted, heat rising up his spine.

“Stop it!” Adam yelled back. “Just stop.”

“No! Adam, tell me!” Kris had completely lost it now. Adam looked at Kris and it honestly looked like Adam was terrified of him. Kris felt all that anger just slip away from him. The last thing he wanted to do was make Adam scared of him, too.

“I’m sorry. If you don’t want to tell me, its okay,” Kris said calmly.

“But… I do. I want to,” Adam started. “He… he’s going to do it again… if I tell.”

“Do what again? Adam, listen to me, he’s not going to get close to you ever again if I have anything to say about it,” Kris replied. Adam smiled sadly at Kris, obviously appreciating the gesture, but it looked as though Adam didn’t believe for a second that Kris could take on the big bad Ben. Kris wasn’t sure if he could, either.

“I don’t know how to say it,” Adam mumbled, looking down at the floor. “What if he finds out I told? He’s going to do it again!”

“He’s not doing anything to you ever again. I won’t let him. You’ve got a lot of people that care about you and want to help you. But I can’t help if you won’t let me in,” Kris replied. Adam took a deep breath, and everything came out in a rush.

“He… he made me have sex with him! I can’t believe I actually did it. I feel so disgusting. Please don’t hate me, Kris,” Adam pleaded.

“He WHAT?!” Kris yelped. Kris stood up and walked towards the front door, not even knowing what he was doing but knowing that he had to do something.

“What are you doing?!” Adam asked desperately, standing from the couch and rushing over to Kris. Kris was already halfway outside now. “Stop! Kris, don’t!” Adam grabbed Kris’s wrist and tried to pull him back inside, but Kris shrugged him off. He walked towards his car and started driving, not knowing where he was going. He grabbed his cell phone from his pocket and dialed Brad’s number.

Brad answered immediately, but Kris didn’t let him get a word in. “Look, I’ll explain later, but right now I need Ben’s address.”

“What?” Brad obviously wasn’t expecting that. “I don’t know the guy. I don’t have it.”

“You know somebody that does. I know you do. I don’t care what you have to do, just get me his damn address!” Kris demanded.

“Alright, just give me a minute…” Brad huffed. Brad’s end was silent for a few moments, but then he returned, short of breath. “Okay, I’ve got it. But before I give it to you, just what are you planning on doing?”

“I don’t have time to explain this to you. Just give it to me!” Kris yelled, pulling over at a gas station. He didn’t want to drive too far away from Ben’s place.

Brad obliged, giving Kris the address. Kris drove as fast as he could to his destination. He pulled up to a dingy little house on the corner of a busy street that obviously had to be Ben’s place. It was perfect for him; dirty, disgusting, awful. Kris rushed over to the house and pounded on the door. He waited for a few minutes before some guy answered the door in nothing but boxer briefs.

“Can I help you?” the guy asked, eyeing Kris curiously.

“Where’s Ben?” Kris demanded. “Where the fuck is he?”

“Whoa, calm down, kid,” the man chuckled. “What’s your hurry?” Then the guy basically ogled Kris. Kris felt like punching his lights out, too.

“Just get him for me. Now,” Kris said through clenched teeth. The guy gave Kris one last look and then retreated into the house.

As Kris stood in front of Ben’s disgusting house, he didn’t even question what the hell he was doing. Normal Kris would be completely freaking out right now, wondering why he was being so aggressive and putting on such a show when he knew damn well that he couldn’t do anything to Ben. But pissed off Kris was ready to just beat the shit out of Ben. That was all he could think about.

When Ben came to the door, Kris felt his anger reach its peak. Ben smirked at Kris, as if he’d been expecting him. “Well, well, well. Look who it is,” he muttered, licking his lips viciously.

“Shut the hell up,” Kris growled.

“What do you want?” Ben snarled.

“How could you do that to Adam?!” Kris ignored Ben’s question, taking a step into his house, making the space between them almost unbearably small.

“Easy. He’s just so weak. He believes that I’m the sweetest guy around. That I’m just going through a phase and I’ll get over it and be all lovey-dovey with him again soon. He thinks I’m God. I can make him believe anything because he’s so damn in love with me,” Ben smirked, seeming quite proud of himself.

“You took advantage of him!” Kris spat. “You made him think you were one person then turned around and became the exact opposite!”

“I never made him believe anything. I was just… acting,” Ben winked. “You’d understand, Kris. You act all the time around him. Making him believe that you’re so, so innocent. Like ‘Oh, I’m the little church boy. Trust me, I won’t hurt you!’ And then you do. You hurt him. It was quite conniving, really. I was impressed when you pulled that out of your bag of tricks.”

“I am nothing like you! Don’t you dare compare the two of us!” Kris snapped.

“Oh, I think we’re more alike than even you’re aware of,” Ben smiled. “You led him on. I led him on. It’s just a shame that you never got to see him like I did. He surrendered himself to me. He was mine. He just let me do whatever the hell I wanted and you never got that, did you? You never got to see him all fucked and-”

It was at that moment that Kris had had enough. He clenched his fist and drove it straight at Ben’s jaw. Ben staggered backwards, obviously not expecting the hit. Kris took a step forward, lunging at Ben, punching him again. Kris just kept punching and punching and punching. He wasn’t even sure where he was hitting Ben but he didn’t even care. He was hitting him. That was all that mattered.

When Kris finally stopped beating the shit out of Ben, Ben was lying on the floor, blood pouring out of his nose. Kris was fairly certain it was broken, and it kind of made him proud.
“You fucking bastard,” Kris growled. “You stay the hell away from him, got it? Or I swear to God I’ll do worse the next time.”

Kris turned away from Ben’s crumpled form and walked towards his car, his steps much larger than they normally were. He got inside and started driving. He drove until he got to the beach that he and Adam had been at the day prior. He parked the car and walked towards the sand, taking his shoes off. He walked along the water for a while, just trying to calm himself down. It was getting dark outside and the sun had already set when he got a text message. He flipped his phone open and saw that it was from Adam.

wut the fuck did u do?

Adam’s text had seemed accusatory. Like he was mad that Kris had just stormed off and was expecting the worst. Kris opened up a new message, writing what he honestly felt.

something u should’ve done a long time ago.
