Application for the Game
Updated July 24th, 2011.

Sorry, Applications have closed for the season!

What characters can I apply for in this game?
    ❧ Fandoms:
Luministi is a pan-fandom game, so it accepts characters from any fandom from any medium (books, TV, comics, audio, video games, etc.). However, there are no original characters in the game, nor fandom OCs. We apologize for that.

    ❧ Character versions:
There can be up to two versions of any one character: one version from the character's original universe/canon and one from an alternate universe.

An alternate universe version of a character can be anything from your character deciding to do the opposite of what the canon version does (for example, Uchiha Sasuke chooses not to leave Konoha in a barrel), a change in gender, or role reversal. Please thoroughly indicate throughout your application how being from an alternate universe has effected your character but still makes them an alternate version of the canon source character, especially for gender changes and role reversals. One cannot simply swap a character's sex and expect the world's society to have treated them the exact same way. What sort of societal consequences are there? Like if Arthur from Merlin had been born a girl, the female version of Arthur would be guarded and protected by Uther and his knights and not allowed to go out and fight the worst of Camelot's magical creatures. He certainly doesn't allow Morgana, his ward, so he certainly wouldn't allow his daughter either. Or say the roles of Edward and Alphonse Elric were reversed and Al lost only his arm and part of his leg and Ed was the one to have his soul attached to the suit--just how would finally being super tall effect Ed? Would Al do the exact same things that canon Ed has done (would he even don the same snazzy red coat)? Or if Sora had been the one to be consumed by darkness in the first Kingdom Hearts game and not Riku, just how different would events in the game have gone? Those are the sort of questions we hope to see answered in the course of reading your application for an alternate universe character.

The only situation in which two of the same character may be apped is a character who has appeared in more than one different series. For example, there can be only one canon Suou Tamaki (anime or manga) or Tony Stark (comics or movie), but Kamui could be apped from both X and Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, or Cloud could be apped from Final Fantasy VII and from Kingdom Hearts.

    ❧ Character limit:
A player may play a maximum of three characters at any given time. Only two of those characters may be from the same fandom.

    ❧ Minor characters:
As far as minor characters go, they are permitted as long as there is canon evidence of a personality and substantial enough information for a history/background to be formulated. For example, Sally Sparrow from Doctor Who is acceptable, even though she's only appeared in one episode, because in that episode, we get to see her personality clearly expressed through her actions and dialogue, and what happens in that episode may also be used for part of her character history. We understand that a bit of head-canon may have to be employed to figure out what she may have done in her years leading up to her episode, but as long as that head-canon works alongside show canon (i.e. she remembers a floating island of invaders on Christmas Day), then we'll accept it. If a character has extremely little screentime, little to no dialogue (if they're not canonly mute, anyway), nothing to display their personality or hint at their past, and may as well be known as Man Riding Horse in the credits, then unfortunately, we can't accept that character. This is because they are hardly different from a fandom OC for all the blanks that would have to be filled, and at this time, we do not accept original characters nor fandom OCs.

    ❧ Dead characters:
Characters who have died in canon can be apped at their time of death and will find themselves mysteriously and unexpectedly alive again when they arrive in town. For characters who exist in a special form after death, such as shinigami, they can be apped in that form but will find that they are now able to interact with others as though their bodies are substantial.

    ❧ Unusual characters:
Because of the size of the buildings and lodgings within Luministi, we are unable to accommodate such characters as Transformers or those on a large, grand scale comparable to them. This does mean, also, that characters with mecha will be unable to bring them along to Luministi. Some special character circumstances can be accommodated. Characters with medical needs have access to the fine clinic facilities run by Dr. Ernesto Resarci, and he's capable of handling just about anything you throw his way! And, for those characters with special dietary needs, shops in town are able to accommodate those needs, such as the butcher is willing to sell blood to the thirsty vampire.

    ❧ New media:
Any media that has not had a wide release to an audience at large may not be applied for at this time. It is not fair for those who wish to remain unspoiled for events that take place in the games and, unfortunately, it makes judging the quality of the application all the more difficult. This includes any video games that have not been translated and released in English, films that haven't been released into theatres, and books/comics that are still in development. We also ask that any characters from new television series/new characters in new seasons wait until the season has completely aired before applying. The only exception is fan scanslated/subtitled manga and anime and as long as it's available in a place such as Manga Fox or Mangareader so those who wish to read up on your fandom may be able to do so. If you are not sure if your fandom/character falls under this, please contact a mod before applying.

Before applying for a character, please be sure to check the list of Taken Characters.

Application Details
Player Name: The name by which you would like us and other players to call you.
Player LJ: Please give your personal Livejournal.
E-mail and/or AIM: Basically, what information would you like on the contact page for other players to use? The contact page will be friends-locked so only those in the game can see this information, but if there is anything you don't wish for us to list on the contact page, please let us know.
Timezone: Just what it says! This way, other players know that if another player is on the other side of the world, tagging and question responses just might be a bit slow. If you would like, you can also indicate around what time of day you are usually available.
Current Characters: Indicate who else you play in the game at this time, if anyone.

Character: The full name for your character.
Fandom/Series: The name of the fandom from which the character is taken.
Original or Alternate Universe: Are you playing the canon version of your character or one from an alternate universe?

Canon Used: Please indicate what canon you are using. This includes, for example, if you are using the anime, manga, or movie version, book or TV version, etc. of your chosen fandom. This information is especially helpful for castmates that join, so please be specific.

Age: Give the age of your character at the point from which you are taking them. An estimate is acceptable if the actual age is not known. Also, if there is a difference between physical and mental age for your character, also include that information.
Gender: Male, female, other--how does your character define him/her/itself?
Species: Indicate the species of your character.

Appearance: Please link to an image or provide a descriptive paragraph detailing the appearance of your character. If you have linked an image but there are differences between it and your character's general description, also note them.

Personality: Who is your character? What makes them tick? What are their values? How do they think about, perceive, and react to things on the inside, and how do they act on the outside? What are their habits and quirks? What do they love or hate? This should include both psychological strengths and weaknesses. Be as descriptive as possible. This section will show us how good of a grip you have on your character, as well as indicate how they are likely to behave in the context of the game. To this end, this section must be a minimum of 450 words in length.

Strengths/Abilities: What are your character's physical strengths? Are they faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Can they fight with swords? Can they fight with swords or axes twice their size without breaking a sweat? Are they a track star? Can they harness the power of water/fire/earth/air and bend it to their will? Tell us about their talents, as well as any other special abilities they may have, like special biological systems that allow them to survive in situations that might kill a mere human.

Weaknesses: What physical weaknesses does your character suffer from? Are they a powerful magician, but the moment a piece of silver is put on their person, are they rendered powerless? Do they have any special vulnerabilities or allergies, such as to peanuts or even a deadly allergy to aspirin? Are they susceptible to psychic attacks or vulnerable to hypnosis? Remember, these are physical weaknesses, so things like having a weakness for the fairer sex or women with a certain hair color should be in the Personality section.

History: Tell us about the major important events and turning points in the life of your character. Who and what has shaped them into the person whose personality you have described? Be as detailed as possible. If you are applying for an alternate universe character, this is where you will describe just what exactly about this character's life has made them an alternate. The more detail, the better.

You may link to a pre-written history on a different page for this section. If you do, also include at least 200 words of elaboration on events and points that you think will be especially relevant for your character coming into this game. Without a link, the history must be a minimum of 500 words in length. Remember that a character's history is not just about their past; it may also include the canon events in which they appear. Don't be afraid to focus on the canon material if the character's past hasn't yet been revealed in canon or is only briefly mentioned.

Canon Point: At what point in your character's canon are you taking them? Indicate the relevant episode/volume number as well as an indication of the most recent arc or event to help castmates identify that point.

First Person Sample: This sample will be written in the first person from your character's perspective. It is our chance to see that you have a strong grasp of the character's voice. This sample must be your character's response to the events in the Premise. Basically, what would your character say and do upon first turning up in a strange room and receiving a message from the mayor? Your character may feel free to speak to the mayor, although his message is, sadly, pre-recorded, and he will not respond. Your character may also leave the room and, for example, find the gift basket or even wander out into town and address the people there.

This sample must include at least 10 spoken lines from your character. However, we are aware that there are mute characters and characters who almost never speak. For such a character, the sample must include at least 250 words, including detailed descriptions of the character's nonverbal reactions to the situation.

This must be written in entry-style first person, which is based around spoken lines with actions, thoughts, etc. contained within brackets. For example:

What is wrong wi- [gasps, eyes widening] What are you doing!? [crosses the room quickly, grabbing his arm] Stop! You'll hurt yourself!
Third Person Sample: Show us your prose! Logs are an important part of the RP, and we want to see that your prose is high quality. For this section, write a minimum of 450 words of your character in whatever situation you would like. It does not have to be written specifically for Luministi, but it must reflect the canon point and portrayal of your character that you will be using in the game. You may use, for example, part of a fic posted elsewhere, but the sample must be included in the application--not linked.

Did you read the rules? Yes or no? If you say no--and we really hope you don't!--you will get an automatic request response from us to do so.

So I've sent my application in! What now?
❧First of all, thank you for applying! We ask for patience while the mods review your application and we will let you know the outcome as soon as possible.

❧Once we've fully reviewed your application, we will email you back with one of the following messages:

❧ An acceptance message with further instructions for completing that final step in joining the game. You will be asked to provide the mods with your character's journal and a link to your application within the journal and then be linked to the Permission Meme to fill one of those out as well. (If you'd like to fill it out ahead of time and provide the link to it in your character's journal along with the other two things, we certainly won't argue!) How much of the contact info you wish to list when posting your application is up to you, as is the inclusion or exclusion of the samples.

❧ A request message asking for, for example, revisions of areas in your application where we'd like some clarification or a bit of work to meet the word requirement standards.

❧ Or a rejection notice with a brief explanation about why we have rejected your application.

❧ If you are rejected, we ask that you wait one week before applying again so others may have a chance to apply.

For returning characters
❧ If your character was around for the end of the first season, you do not have to re-apply. There is a reason for this that...can't be revealed at this time as it's tied into the overarching game plot. However! Between seasons, you do have the opportunity to canon update your character(s). Using the following textbox, give us (the rest of the players) an idea of what's been going on for your character(s) since leaving Luministi. There is no word limit for this; only as much as you want to describe. Oh yes, all characters will retain their memories of their time in Luministi, however, they won't have access to them until they're back in the town. How fast or slow the memories return upon arrival is completely your choice.

      Since leaving Luministi:

❧Once you have that done, go ahead and send that in to the mod email for a quick check. And that'll be your re-entry into the game! Also, go ahead and slip this blurb into your application for the game so we can all see what's gone on.

❧Also, if nothing has happened to your character (i.e. he/she has literally gone home from Luministi and a split-second later has come back), go right ahead and say that too! Whether any time has passed or not is completely up to each player.

❧ As a note, those who left the game before the end will have to reapply with an emailed application as they won't have retained any memories from their original time in the game. Apologies for that...
