Chapter 9:

“Kazu? What are you doing out here?” asked Masaki who so happened to pass by and saw Kazunari standing by the main door anxiously looking out of the window as if he was expecting someone.

“I invited some friends over to play Mario Kart,” answered Kazunari still looking out of the window.

“Can I join you?” Masaki requested, bouncing up and down.

“Sorry, Masaki, maybe next time, we already have four players,” said Kazunari apologetically, “oh they’re here!”

Kazunari ran off to greet his friends as he saw three cars heading down the driveway. Masaki sighed and walked off.

Waiting for his friends to exit the car, Kazunari beamed from ear to ear. But when they stepped out of their respective cars, Kazunari’s face fell. All three of them were dressed in a suit and had their parents with them. Why were their parents with them? Weren’t they going to spend the whole day gaming and eating pizza?

“Nino!” they waved running up to him, “when our parents heard we’re coming to your house, they insisted on tagging along,”

Kazunari nodded. He watched as his friends parents started talking animatedly with his grandfather who so happened to come and see what was going on. As they exchanged business cards, Tegoshi, Ryo and Jin bounded up to his grandfather and introduced themselves.

He thought that after his friends had greeted his grandfather, they could go off and start playing, but no, all three of them stayed with their parents and started talking about all sorts of random nonsense.

Standing by the door watching the whole scene, a small pout formed on Kazunari’s lips. He thought that they were here to play games, but why were they so interested in talking to his grandfather about stupid things.

“So you finally know how I felt when I knew about Toma’s true intentions,” said a voice coming from behind him.

Kazunari felt like kicking himself. How could he not seeing it coming? Those three obviously wanted to be friends with him because of his status! And to think that he had, in a way, been warned about it before.

“Is this why you want to leave?”

“How did you know?” asked Jun, a bit of astonishment in his tone.

“I kinda guessed from all the mail you had about housing and such,”

Silence filled the air, disrupted occasionally by the laughter coming from the lobby where his grandfather was entertaining his ‘guests’.

“So why don’t you make my grandfather hate you? He’s the one with all the power…” asked Kazunari again.

“It’s not as simple as you think it is,” came the reply.

Jun walked up to him, patted him lightly on the shoulder and walked off. Kazunari stared at Jun’s retreating back, his heart beating slightly faster than usual. He smiled as he concluded that Jun isn’t as bad as he thought he was. After all, Jun had been pretty nice and concerned about him…other than the times when Jun insulted him.

Meanwhile, Lord Ninomiya pretended to laugh at a lame joke that one of the parents had created. He looked towards the corner where his grandson was sulking and his heart ached. He just hated seeing his only grandson look so sad, but chasing his ‘friends’ out of the house would only make him even more unpopular at school.

“Nishida, help me see our guests out,” said Lord Ninomiya at last.

The three families unwillingly made their way out of the mansion, giggling at the thought of being invited to Kazunari’s party, actually giggling at the thought of making more business contacts at Kazunari’s party.

“Nishida,” sighed the old man, “go check on Kazunari, he must be feeling terrible after experiencing that. Kazunari may look strong on the outside, but he’s pretty fragile inside,”

“Yes sir,” replied Nishida.

“The nerve of them!” yelled Masaki, slamming his palms on the counter, “how could they do that to Kazu!”

“Calm down, Masaki,” said Sho, “getting angry is not going to help,”

“Kazu is going to feel pretty lousy after what happened,” remarked Satoshi softly.

“I suggest we bash them up!” declared Masaki, his common sense overridden by his want to do Kazunari justice,”

“That’s not going to help either,” sighed Sho.

The three sat in silence, still unable to absorb the fact that Kazunari’s so-called friends had cheated his feelings. Jun, on the other hand, had experience in such things and knew exactly how Kazunari was feeling.

“All we need to do is make Kazunari feel better,” said Jun after a while.

“And I have just the plan!” cried Masaki.

Kazunari looked at the paper in his hands before staring at the honey-haired man who gave it to him.

“What is this supposed to be?” he asked.

Open it and find out. So open it he did, but he didn’t find out what the piece of paper was supposed to be. He wanted to ask the taller male about it, but he had suddenly disappeared from sight. Sighing, Kazunari tried to decipher what was on the paper.

“fifty-two steps forward?” Kazunari read off the paper. So shaking his head, Kazunari followed the ‘instructions’ even though they sounded pretty stupid. After following the first ten instructions, Kazunari found himself at one of the mansion’s side gate. The guard on duty let him through without any questions and Kazunari continued on his ‘journey’.

“Seventeen steps to the left and then head right until you see a lake,” he did as he was told.

“Cross the bridge and you’ll see an arrow,” Kazunari crossed the little wooden bridge and saw a sign with an arrow pointing right.

The last instruction was ‘follow the arrows!’, so follow the arrows he did. Kazunari found himself outside a sea-side villa and according to the arrows taped to the floor, he was supposed to enter.

Following the arrows blindly, Kazunari came to a huge door, so he opened it.

“Surprise!” cried a few voices as balloons and confetti fell from the sky and crackers popped.

“Guys? What’s this all about?” asked Kazunari, looking around the place.

“This is a meal cooked by us especially for you,” explained Sho as he and Masaki went to drag Kazunari and sat him down at the table.

“Actually, it’s cooked mostly by Jun, some by me, a bit by Satoshi and none by Sho,” said Masaki happily, ignoring an ‘oi!’ from Sho.

“You cooked this?” asked Kazunari, addressing Jun.

“Don’t think so much,” replied Jun, turning away so he was looking anywhere but at Kazunari, “it’s just I’m the only one here who can actually cook,” the second part of his statement directed at Sho who folded his arms across his chest.

Kazunari merely let out a laugh as he dug into the nearest plate, which so happened to contain pasta, and sighed contentedly at the deliciousness of the food.

“Kazu! You have to try my tofu!” exclaimed Masaki, thrusting a plate of tofu into Kazunari’s face. As there was no way Kazunari could decline, he took a bite out of the food, his face immediately lighting up due to the exquisite taste.

“It’s good isn’t it,” grinned Masaki, “I know I’m a good chef,”

“It’s tasty, but the pasta’s still better though,” replied Kazunari. At that point of time, Kazunari had no idea that the pasta was cooked by Jun, and his true intention was to tease the group’s tallest man.

“I see Jun blushing,” laughed Masaki, “you’re lucky, you know that, being able to eat Jun’s pasta whenever you want, it’s not everyday that he cooks,”

“Huh?” asked Kazunari stupidly, not knowing what Masaki was trying to imply. What did Masaki mean by being able to eat Jun’s pasta whenever he wants? Even though it was good, he wasn’t going to ask Jun to make it for him, he did value his life.

Unluckily for him, Sho decided to cut in before he could ask, “Kazu, try my fried egg next!” he cried, pushing a plate in front of him.

“Fried eggs…?” Kazunari asked cautiously, staring at the lump of black stuff on the plate. He glanced at Sho, hoping that it was a joke, but the expression on Sho’s face showed how hopeful he was, so not wanting to disappoint the latter, Kazunari took a deep breath and tried a portion of the food.

He thought he was going to die.

“Sho-chan! You killed Kazu!” screamed Masaki as he watched Kazunari choke as if he was about to die.

Satoshi, who had been watching the others crowd around Kazunari with a pout on his face, immediately grabbed a glass of juice and placed it in Kazunari’s hand. The younger man gave him a grateful nod before gulping the drink down as if his life depended on it.

“It was nice,” said Kazunari at last, hoping that it make Sho feel better.

“No, I know it’s terrible,” whined Sho, discarding the rest of the fried eggs, if you can still call them that.

“My turn next,” said Satoshi, holding out a spoonful of cha-han right in front of Kazunari’s face, using the spoon to nudge the younger man’s mouth open. Like a child who can’t feed himself, Kazunari opened his mouth wide and Satoshi placed the spoon inside.

The fried rice exploded with flavour in Kazunari’s mouth, making the Ninomiya heir squeal in delight. Satoshi grinned while the faces of the other three turned an even darker shade of black compared to Sho’s fried eggs. Not wanting to lose to Satoshi, Masaki and Jun immediately surrounded Kazunari with plates, asking him to taste each of them, while Sho could only offer him drinks of soda and juices.

Kazunari was extremely overwhelmed by all the food around him, he really didn’t know which one to try first, they all looked and smelt so good. Thankfully, the buzzing of Kazunari’s phone distracted everybody from the food.

“Hello?” said Kazunari, answering his phone.

“Young master…” began Nishida on the other end, his voice quivering, “Lord Ninomiya…Lord Ninomiya has been hospitalized,”

I kinda noticed that all my attempts at making things fluffy always turn out lame :( *sighs* Congratulations to those who figured out that Tegoshi, Ryo and Jin are evil, well, in my fics, they always are, don't know why but i always had this impression of the three of them. I don't know if Nino will end up with Sho or Jun (definetly not the other two, sorry, Ohmiya and Aimiya fans!), but thanks for reading XD
