Meme Round Up: 5/21/12 - 5/27/12

May 28, 2012 15:11

A couple of announcements and requests:

First, please welcome helosthisshoe as the second half of the mod team. She kept things running and put the round up together while I was knee-deep in finals, so I'm very glad to have her. :)

Second, please take a look at the following three journal designs and give an opinion on them as possible replacements for the current memebells design: ldlayouttester and righteoushunter. The first is based on flexible squares and the second is a minimalism layout. Since there was a problem with multiple voting in the last poll, I'm not going to poll this. In a few days, I'm going to implement a trial run of each one for a week each to see how they work and then we'll vote again, without a poll.

Third, there has been an issue with extremely long comment threads breaking entire meme pages. What happens is, with the customized comment style we use (to allow us subject lines), when a thread goes so far off the page, it becomes impossible to access anything that was posted below it. An example is here. You can see how anything posted on the first page there after that thread began is now completely inaccessible.

So, my question is this... there was a suggestion to switch to the default LJ comment style. I don't want to lose subject lines, but I was told there might be some way to work around that. Does anyone know how to make subject lines appear on the default style? In the meantime: Please try to be conscious of how long your comment thread is getting and move it back over to the left of the page when it gets really long. The way you do this is to go back to one of the original tags in the thread and answer your latest tag there. That will start a subthread under your original thread. If you're not clear on how to do that, please PM one of the mods and we'll walk you through it.

Any other suggestions on how to fix this are welcome.
