“She’s stable.” Owen watched the monitor break into a constant rhythm of bleeps.
Ianto shifted on his feet. It was hard for it for him to stand there and watch, this wasn’t a normal part of his day. He should be in the archives, leaving the rest of the team to follow this through like normal.
Ianto.
Rose? He could hear her, the still body beneath him didn’t move. It’s the fog he thought as he watched Rose breathe slowly in and out.
Yes, I can hear you.
I didn’t say anything. Ianto shook his head, I didn’t think anything. Jack looked at him with a questioning eyebrow as he shook.
You told him, about what I said to you.
Ianto looked back at Jack, with a slightly guilty look on his face.
“Jack, her vitals are dropping slightly, we need to get the fog out of her now.” Owen called up, breaking the pairs gaze.
Ianto watched as Jack moved away from Ianto and down the steps to Rose. He reached out to touch Rose’s hair.
I made up my mind. Jack was right; it wasn’t Lisa in the Hub. She was the monster.
They want me to leave Rose. Jack, he’s talking to me.
You need to leave Rose. She’s not safe with you inside her. Ianto leaned forwards on the railing, as if that would reinforce his point.
I can’t. She needs me.
What do you mean, she needs you? Ianto walked around the railing to the top of the steps, looking at Jack and Rose.
Jack was now sitting close to Rose, staring at her, his hand was placed on her forehead. The fog was right, he was talking to it as well.
Owen looked at the machines next to Rose, her heart rate was up and down and Ianto could tell that was the fog talking to either him or Jack. What was Jack saying to it? Ianto thought.
Do you want to know? The fog echoed in Ianto’s mind.
Ianto looked up at Rose from Jack, no
I can’t hold on to Rose much longer. He’s pulling me out. Oh Rose, no.
“Fuck, Jack her heart rate’s going crazy, you need to finish this now.” Owen pressed at random buttons on the monitors, checking the stats before moving over to her side.
Chris was pushing backwards and forwards on his heels. Rose, my Rose, be strong for me. He repeated over and over like a mantra inside his head, hoping she could hear him.
It’s getting too much, there’s too many voices. Ianto looked around as the fog spoke, everyone in the room had their eyes closed. They were using the fog’s ability against it. It was dying.
Ianto, before I leave, you need to believe me when I say this.
What? Ianto shifted.
Lisa will always be in your heart, she's your past, she made you who you are now. But Jack is now and you need each other, he’s your future, Ianto.
