Productivity
Today, I paid rent for my apartment, making it officially mine; got a really cool new job, which I start tomorrow; and was elected vice chairperson of our new LSA, which is perfect for my activity level right now. Thoughts of late....
Today has been one of growth as well as healing, as I reached out to my chosen family and they happily reached back. Fear and anger have left me alone and making poor decisions so often, and I have only returned with great caution, at forced times. Homie G: WTF?!
Apparently, Stephi is being taught to rap in music class at school. She said, "It's really bad. There's these old white people who write our music book, -forcing- us to learn these raps. And there's a picture of a bunny, with one ear up and one down, like, representing messed up hair... But don't worry," she adds, "there's no 'homie g' or 'wtf' -
Pain and distraction (incl. Book #7)
So, I was scheduled to have a nasty tooth removed today, and hey, while we're at it, all of my wisdom teeth as well. ( More details here ) -
Book #5 and the weekend
Just finished A Testament of Devotion by Thomas Kelly, who was a Quaker scholar and educator. It was a gift from my brother-in-law for Christmas. I was struck by the similarities between Quaker beliefs and those of the Baha'i faith, not for the first time.

I recently finished On Call by Emily Transue and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris. Both books are groups of essays based on the authors' real experiences. The former is about being a medical resident and seems meant to be strictly entertainment but does provide a little insight and humanity to the medical profession. The ( Read more... ) -
New addition :)
Last weekend, after much waiting and planning, we picked up our new family member. Jack (Cpt. Jack Spaniel) was 10 wks. old yesterday and is already learning so much! The cats are beginning to think about playing with him but seem to view him as a curiosity, mostly. The rest of us are in love. :)

Comfort zones
One of the girls in my scout troop mentioned last night that she and her little sister have been skipping lunch at school because there's no money for it and the school won't let them charge it. We're in for lots of fun with the kiddos this weekend. The Girl Scouts are doing "booth sales" tonight at the mall for three hours. That will fortunately be indoors. Yesterday, we stood outside of Wal-mart for two hours and nearly froze off appendages. The girls were well rewarded, though. They sold about 4 cases of cookies and they were ( Read more... )
