The mother of all RP horror stories, Part XIII

Aug 20, 2011 07:55

Previous Parts: Day 1: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X
Day 2: XI, XII
Well, I must admit that I'm feeling better now that I've gotten all that rage from the last part out of my system. However, I'm afraid there's nothing left now but the log itself; it's very fitting that we're starting it on Unlucky #13 ( Read more... )

Ahaha... I write like that sometimes...

I really liked the "technically" part of "Mr. Hitachi's" description. He isn't Yuna's boss and owner, it's "technically" his owner, which gives Hitachi even less authority over anything, really.

AND THIS IS TOTALLY JUST NIT-PICKING, BUT... if it's set in AU Japan, shouldn't he be Hitachi-San?

But really, I don't think you're being a bitch. After having to deal with her for so long, I can see the joy you would get in ripping apart her writing. Especially when there are so many inconsistencies in the characterization.

I stand by what I said: Imperfect execution happens all the time, including with truly talented writers.

And aside from that, what makes her so obnoxious is that she's making all these mistakes WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY EXALTING HERSELF AS SO SUPERIOR TO ANYONE WHO MAKES GRAMMAR OR SPELLING ERRORS AND ANYONE WHO PLAYS A FANDOM CHARACTER.

Oh my god, you're right. That "technically" word IS serving to undermine Hitachi's actual authority. I totally missed that. See, I knew there'd be stuff I didn't catch. SO MUCH FAIL. EVERYWHERE.

Yeah, Hitachi-san would have been most correct, but I will give her a pass for that one since the typical translation for the -san honorific as applied to a male is "Mr. Name." Don't ask me why I'm being generous about anything with her, IDK why.

I'm glad this isn't coming off as too bitchy |D It's just... you know, I would have been turned off but at least not angry if she'd been a decent person who just happened to not be very good at RPing. Attitude makes a world of difference.

You know what? Given how she bitches and moans about all of those "inferior RPers" out there, I think you and anyone else should take than as an invitation to rip into her own RPing.

And, as you said, much of what she's doing is nonsensical anyway. I got the same impression as you did from that little segment: bored teenaged girl with an attitude problem. And the "boss" is supposed to be a crime lord? How did he manage to get into that position? Does he have a really badass relative who looks after him?

It's clear that about 0.05 seconds thought went into those characterizations.

Hahaha, this is a very fair point. Deciding from the beginning that I'm terrible at my character without knowledge of the canon and without seeing a sample of my work is astoundingly presumptive and haughty. It's no wonder she doesn't have any luck with RPers if she goes in with the attitude everyone else sucks and does not even try to hide this attitude from the other person. Who wants to RP with someone who holds them in such poor esteem?

I have no idea how we're supposed to believe either of these characters for what they're claimed to represent. Even granted the wide diversity that will exist amongst any niche of people, they just don't project themselves as anything close to what could pass as a believable mentality. And I think it's especially damning for Hitachi since he's missing qualities that are in fact essential for his role to even be possible: Presence. Ruthlessness. The ability to assert oneself as Top Dog And You Do Not Challenge That. That Yuna can walk all over this man makes him not just unrealistic but completely ( ... )

I totally got the spoiled little valley girl vibe from Yuna as well. >_>

Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaah. >_> I have in fact questioned-- multiple times-- whether she was really even over 18 like she claimed. She said at one point in the chat that she was uncomfortable with the under 18 age group because she couldn't feel comfortable writing these dark adult themes with any character young enough to be her brother. I think she said she was 23, which would have meant something like an 8-year age difference for Rasu's given age of 15. That's certainly within the range of plausibility for her to have been telling the truth about her age, but MOST younger siblings are not that much younger. And when you take into account her overall maturity level, that strikes me as painfully teenaged girl too. Which just... makes you wonder.

All in all, I'm glad this never reached the point of actually writing adult content with her, all other issues aside.

I've just read the entire thing and this makes me glad I got fed up with most people on that comm in the plotting stages. Only a few got beyond that and only one every turned into a lasting storyline.

You have far, far more patience than I ever could in dealing with that player.

Well, in fairness, this would run a lot differently if I'd come across her now. Soon as she'd said no fandom characters I'd have said "Okay, see ya." I was just way too easily pushed around at that age, I'm sorry to say.

By rights, yes. Sadly Yuna's player isn't interested in observing this thing called believability. Maybe this is another product of the AU Japan. In this universe crime lords are actually more like doormat sugar daddies.

I agree completely that it isn't the errors themselves that are so damning as the attitude she brings with it, too. As long as both people are having fun, it really doesn't matter how realistic the setting or how high-quality the writing. Problem here? I wasn't having it, knew I wasn't going to from before it started, and she couldn't care less so long as I was indulging her anyway.

This GRAHLG icon needs to exist. *nods*
