Independence Day
Back in the day, "fighting for our freedom" meant getting to have our own government, and not having another country's troops quartered in our homes.
I think we've become very careless about how we use that phrase.

Trip Report Part One: Snowcamping with the Banana

Permit Me: adventures with water heaters
Replacing a water heater - not rocket science, especially when it has a 5 year warranty and it was purchased 3 years ago, installed by a licensed contractor, permitted, bla bla bla. And yet...

Food post: dirty rice and old chianti
Dinner of recycled and rescued ingredients:
leftover dirty rice: I'm a fan of Zatarain's. Yeah, I usually cook from scratch, but dammit, they do a GREAT job and it's QUICK!
1996 bottle of Chianti: grabbed at random from a herd (~30 bottles) of wine bottles that were acquired w/ex. They're mostly cabs, but hey, who knew? This was the rescued ( Read more... ) -
Sometimes the system seems dodgy

An amphibious acquaintance who is looking for housing found this Craigslist posting during her quest. Just out of curiosity, she contacted the poster, and was told that yes, she's serious (and has horrible spelling/grammar, but I digress). Sometimes the system seems to work
With a happy wave in cherydactyl 's direction (due to a discussion in her journal, not her work situation!), I read that our Shiny New President is signing the Lilly Ledbetter's Fair Pay Act into law today. Woot!
Yes, my cynicism frequently gets the better of me, so I admit the "no personal gain" angle of the following greatly increases my respect for these ( Read more... ) -
Heading into the weekend
New thyroid meds are kicking in already, and the difference in how I feel is ridiculously dramatic. There's sort of an initial rush before they settle - I'll take it! I'll be spending the weekend catching up on cleaning/organizing around the house. Making some more lists, too ( Read more... )
