The train with the Sakurai brothers on board ran steadily back to Tokyo. Since Masaki let go of Sho’s hand in order to get on the train when it arrived and Sho didn’t dare to risk anything with taking it again without permission - no matter how much he wanted to do that - so he settled for the second best thing he could do. The younger sat opposite to him and Sho’s eyes didn’t leave Masaki’s face for even a second while that stupidly wide grin was still plastered on his face.
“Stop it, would you? It’s creepy…” Masaki commented without turning his gaze from the scenery that the running train was passing by.
“Huh?” Sho blinked at him confused.
“Your non-stop staring… It’s creeping me out…” the younger boy said and turned to Sho.
“Oh… Gomen…” Sho mumbled and blushed slightly.
He couldn’t know but it was hard for Masaki too. Not holding hands or kissing or even looking at him even if they were this close to each other. But in his heart he was still afraid; afraid that nothing will change. His heart and feelings left unchanged despite everything that happened but he was afraid to feel those painful feelings again… And if Sho won’t learn to realize how the people around him felt… how he should share burdens that relates not only him… - though that’s something he should learn as well, he thought with a small smile on his lips.
“Why are you smiling now?” Sho asked more confused.
“Betsuni…” the younger boy smiled a bit more. “I just realized we’re pretty much alike in certain aspects…” he said - not actually enlightening Sho with his answer - then moved next to Sho and laid down on the seats with his head on his brother’s lap.
“I thought we have a ‘no touching’-rule going on here…” Sho commented with a raised eyebrow, not that he actually minded Masaki’s actions too much…
“That applies for only you. I can do whatever I want…” the younger boy said with a shrug.
A soft smile appeared on Sho’s lips as he looked down at his beloved Masaki…
“Ne, Sho…!” the younger boy spoke up after a while. “I want this to work between us this time so… Gomen!” he said and faint pink flashed over his cheeks.
“Why do you apologize, Masaki? You did nothing wrong!” Sho said quickly.
“That’s not true. I accused you for making decisions alone even if it relates both of us…” he said and Sho nodded slowly at this. “But I did the same. I knew about this chance for the exchange long ago but I said nothing to you. At first because I wasn’t sure if I want to do it or not; then you started to get more and more distant; always busy and agitated… I didn’t want to raise more trouble to you so I kept silent about that… and my feelings… I didn’t even leave a note to you when I came here…”
“Masaki…” Sho breathed out astonished by the younger boy’s confession.
“You still have to change, though!” he added quickly. “Just as I have to…”
“I promise you, I… no, we will make it work this time, okay? Together…” Sho said seriously.
Masaki nodded his head before Sho could finish his sentence.
“I’m going to sleep now…” he announced as his brother’s words painted deeper shade of red onto his cheeks.
Sho couldn’t hold back his chuckle seeing Masaki’s adorably embarrassed side again.
“Oyasumi…” he whispered gently. ‘My Masaki-baby…’
“Tadaima!” Sho and Masaki said in union when they entered the house later in the afternoon.
Hurried footsteps came and Ayako-san appeared in the hallway. A bright smile lit her face as he saw both of them standing there.
“Okaeri!” she said happily and hugged first Masaki then Sho as well. “Thank you…” she whispered in his ear before letting him go to observe the boys some more with a proud, happy smile on her face.
But this happy reunion was ruined the next minute as Shuntaro-san stomped out to the hallway as well, looking at Sho pissed as ever.
“Sho! How did you dare to do this? Disappearing without a word!... Do you have any idea how much trouble you caused with it?!” he yelled at his son.
“So what…?” Sho started to snap back.
“Anata! Sho-kun!” Ayako-san interjected unusually harshly that made everyone silent in an instant. The woman looked at her husband. “Don’t scold Sho-kun. He was just doing what I asked from him. I thought I can endure it but it seems that I can’t stand being separated from my boy… Therefore I asked Sho-kun to bring my Masaki home” she said calmly as she pulled her son into her embrace again. “But I told it to you yesterday, didn’t you listen to me?”
“Yeah, yeah but Sho still should’ve noted Miki-chan! She was really worried that she suddenly couldn’t reach him. Sho, you should be more considerate with your girlf…”
“Father! Stop it, would you?” Sho interrupted him. The last thing he needed right now that his father to address Miki as his girlfriend… in front of Masaki on top of that… “We’re simply senpai and kouhai with Miki-chan. Should I not half of the school as well if I’m leaving Tokyo for a day?” he asked raising an eyebrow.
They all could see how the veins popped out on Shuntaro-san’s neck as he tightly clenched his jaw in anger. Sho mentally winced for pissing off his father more but he didn’t regret his words. They were true after all, he couldn’t think Miki as other than his high school kouhai, no matter what other people wished from him and he decided to stop following other’s wishes instead of his own. Consequences can be screwed as long as he can be with Masaki…
“Go to your room, now! But we’re not finished just yet!” the man ordered the boys on a dangerously silent tone.
Under different circumstances Sho’s pride would rebel against being treated as a child but right now he thought their interest needed them to obey without a word. So the older boy went ahead quickly.
“Masaki-kun!” Shuntaro-san spoke again as the younger boy passed next to him.
“Hai?” he asked stopping but he didn’t dare to turn back and face his step-father.
“I thought I only asked proper behavior from you during your internship. Skipping half-way is not what a Sakurai would do…”
Masaki didn’t even surprise at this. He already knew what the consequences will be when he made his decision…
Just when he thought he’ll be able to actually sleep through the nights without tossing and turning uselessly for hours… Just when he thought he could sort out his feelings and lock away the bothersome ones… Right this time Sho had to appear out of nowhere and mess up everything!...
Masaki huffed and pouted and glared at the ceiling angrily as if that was the cause of his emotional mess.
With a final sigh he got out of his bed. He already made his decision; it was useless to pretend he was still debating pros and cons…
He walked to the office room and knocked softly. It was way too early to be up - even for farm workers - but the light was on so the farm owner must be up already as well.
“Shimura-san, can I talk to you?” he asked popping his head in the room.
The older man looked surprised to see him there but waved him to come in.
“Of course, come in, son! What’s wrong, Masaki-kun?” the old man asked gently and a bit worried.
“I… I have a huge favor to ask and it might sound rude and ungrateful from me after everything you did for me, including offering that job here… But…” Masaki started fiddling with his fingers nervously. “But I have to go back to Tokyo. Like right now. I know half of the exchange is not over yet but… I really have to go back. I used this chance selfishly to get away from my problems back there but I realized they won’t disappear unless I do something to solve them…” the boy explained hastily. “Therefore… please, let me leave!” he said bowing deeply.
“Masaki-kun! Raise your head!” Shimura said on a gentle tone. “You’re free to go whenever you feel like. I’ll still send your assessment at the end of the exchange and I won’t mention that you left mid-way. I understand that you as anybody else have to do certain things at certain times” the man said on a serious yet soft tone. “You’re a good boy and a good worker. I’m sure you can be something great one day. Therefore if you feel like coming back here anytime, our door will always be opened for you!” he said and patted the boy’s shoulder.
A bright smile bloomed on Masaki’s face and his eyes shined with gratitude.
“Arigatou gozaimasu!...”
“We’ll talk about it tomorrow as well. Now go to your room!” his step-father finished.
“Wakarimashita…” the boy said obediently before rushed upstairs.
“Are you okay?” Sho - who waited for him at the top of the staircase - asked him quietly.
“Yeah, I’m fine” Masaki said. “It’s wonderful to be back at home, isn’t it?” he asked sarcastically.
Sho couldn’t say anything so he just nodded sadly. Deep down in his heart he wondered why his sweet, innocent Masaki has to learn sarcasm…
Masaki raised his soft brown, sad puppy-eyes at the older boy then quickly moved in to press his lips onto his cheek shortly.
“Thanks for bringing me home, Sho…” he whispered before rushed to his room…
The next day, as expected, the boys were scolded badly for their inappropriate behavior which they found only annoying for having to listen to Shuntaro-san’s ranting about what was expected from them. But luckily that was over once as everything…
“Ne, Masaki…”
Later that night Sho waited on the corridor for the younger boy to emerge from the bathroom.
“Do you think we can go on a date tomorrow? Or is that against your rules as well?” the Keio student asked.
Masaki looked at his brother from under his wet fringe and the towel that was covering his head.
“Yeah, that’s against the rules. A full out date; that is…”
Sho’s hopeful expression melted from his face and he nodded slowly.
“But I’m willing for a coffee during lunch break tomorrow. There’s a café near your Keio, right? Let’s meet there!” the younger boy said on a natural tone. “Oyasumi, Sho…” he added as he headed to his room.
“I’ll be waiting for you there!” Sho said with a beaming face. “Oyasumi, Masaki!”
Thanks to their date, Sho was in an excellent mood the whole day; in the morning for anticipating it; in the afternoon due to its success… He was grinning and humming cheerfully as he walked home till his phone started to vibrate in his pocket.
“Moshi-moshi!” he answered it chirpily.
“Hey, Sho!” Ohno’s voice came from the other end of the line. “So Ma-chan’s back, huh?”
“How do you know?” Sho asked surprised. “But yeah, he’s back…”
“I actually happened to see you at the café…” Ohno admitted on an obviously grinning voice. “I also saw that things are fine between the two of you…”
“We’re still working on it but hopefully… Yeah, we’re getting there…” Sho nodded his head despite his friend being unable to see it.
“Good” Ohno replied. “Don’t mess it up this time, Sho!” he said warning before hanging up.
“You don’t have to tell that to me… I know what’s on risk here…” he mumbled as he pocketed his phone again.
As he started to walk home again, he thought about asking Masaki to turn his coffee-date into a regular thing between them… maybe everyday till he breaks up with Miki… ‘No… I don’t want just a short hour with him… I won’t postpone that long what I have to do…’ he scolded himself mentally.
“I want my Masaki to be mine fully again!” he said out loud. Then as he realized what he did, he blushed deeply and thanked all the gods that the street was deserted except of him…
Or so he thought…
“That was one unusual but undeniably passionate confession you made there…” A man stepped out from the shadows and stood in front of him. “Konbanwa,… Sho-chan…”
A/N: just before you think will become smooth for the boys... they won't! XD gomen, I'm giving a bit more trouble to them but this fic will soon be over so keep up with me a bit, ne? ^-^
