Shou's POV
~~
I follow Hiroto out of the room.
"Don't look so sad," he says as we finally make our way to the kitchen. "It's not like there's no hope."
"You're right. But I just want to be out of here before that Kyo guy comes back."
"I don't blame you," Tora says from the doorway, causing me to turn in surprise.
He's leaning casually against the frame.
Like he's been there for a while.
He moves so quietly, it's kinda creepy.
"The man's dangerous," he moves, stepping up behind Hiroto to help him get down some glasses.
The other smiles warmly at the tiger-man.
And my heart skips a beat when Tora smiles back.
Blatantly showing his sharp, beast-like teeth.
But it's not threatening.
And Hiroto sees that too.
His smile never wavering.
"So, what's the hold up?" Ruki asks from the doorway.
"Why don't you all just come get your own," I joke, placing another sandwich on the tray I was fixing.
Ruki shakes his head.
"No way. Not when we can get you guys to make us food."
"Lazyass," Hiroto teases, smiling to make sure the other knows it's just a joke.
"That should be enough for now," Ruki says, coming farther into the room.
"Why don't you take that tray up?" Tora suggests.
Motioning towards the one I just finished filling.
As Hiroto deftly lifts the tray of glasses that he'd filled.
I watch as the two leave, still teasing each other.
"Interesting group you've gathered," Tora says.
"They're great," I smile.
"I'm still trying to figure you out," he says, stepping closer.
"What's there to figure out? I'm just average. Normal."
"No," he says, giving his shaggy head a shake. "Average people don't go out of their way for complete strangers. Normal people don't risk their lives for others. And you've done both. Why?"
I lean against the counter.
Not sure I can put it into words.
But willing to try.
"When I first met Saga, I was..intrigued, I guess. He didn't seem that upset. He was very friendly the first time I saw him. Even asked me to be his friend."
Tora was smiling softly.
"Nice to know he's still like that. But it still doesn't answer my question."
"I don't know. It just felt 'right'. You know? Talking to him. Trying to help him. It's like I can't NOT do it. Does that make sense?"
"It might have, once," he says sadly. "Saga may not have changed because of what's happened. But I have. I'm sorry. You're trying to help and I'm just suspicious."
"I can understand that," I say, wanting to reach out to him.
But I'm not sure how he'll react.
So instead, I move to the table and take a seat.
He looks at me oddly.
Then joins me at the table.
I start slowly, telling him my story.
How I've never known who my parents were.
Or where I originally came from.
I tell him about my life at the castle.
I smile remembering the old king.
But that stops when I get to Gackt's arrival.
"He sounds like an ass," Tora almost growls.
"Of course he is! What kind of person keeps someone trapped in a mirror for their own pleasure?"
"The same kind of person who traps someone in a mirror in the first place. We should probably introduce the two."
Which makes me laugh.
"If you don't mind, I'd rather pass on seeing that."
"Ya know," Tora says after a moment, "Maybe this Gackt guy didn't know that Saga was actually trapped in the mirror. Did you think of that?"
I shake my head.
"Well, it's possible that he somehow just came into possession of it. Not knowing its origins."
"Maybe not. But Saga could've told him. If he'd ever bothered to ask," I say sullenly.
Refusing to give the King the benefit of the doubt.
"You've decided you don't like him and nothing's going to change your mind, right?" Tora asks, surprising me.
"How'd you guess?"
"It's not that hard to see. The set of your chin. The glint in your eyes. They completely give you away."
"What about you?" I ask. "What would you really like to do to Kyo?"
"Would it scare you if I told you I wanted to rip his throat out? For what he's done to Saga."
"But what about what he's done to you? Don't you hate him for that, too?"
"I guess. But what he's done to Saga is unforgivable. I can still come and go, moving about almost freely. He's even told me I'm free to leave. But I can't. I don't know what he'll do to Saga if I'm not here."
"Probably something disgusting. Ruki did say the guys a pervert."
"That's an understatement. You don't want to start snooping around any of the other rooms. He's got things that I've never seen before. And I don't want to know their uses."
I see the shiver run thru his body at the thought.
He catches me staring.
And I find I can't look away.
Trapped by those amazing eyes.
"Is there something you want to ask me?" he says softly.
But the look in his eyes tells me I wasn't hearing things.
I nod, gathering my courage.
"What?"
"Your fur. Can I feel it?"
