Ship meme - Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?
Left this so late... and couldn't decide between the two couples that I had indicated in my notebook as potential winners in this category. Eventually this is what made me decide: only one of them was a tv ship. And since all my answers are about tv shows, I discarded the other. But I'm still going to say a little bit about it, like a runner-up. I've tried my best not to cheat so far, but this time it's impossible :)
The runner up in the absolute worst pairing category is...
Edward and Bella (Twilight)You can count this as either a movie ship or a book ship. It doesn't matter. Either way, this ship is completely nonsensical. It starts from a simple concept of animal attraction: these two don't know each other yet they fall in love? As a non-believer in love at first sight, I don't buy it.
Also, I find Bella anything but endearing. She's plain - there really is no reason why someone would fall for her - the fact she is accident prone is ridic! I am extremely accident prone and I certainly don't consider that to be an attractive quality about myself. It is annoying - to myself and the people around me! Nor do I think it makes me more likeable to others just because I trip up a lot and bruise like a peach!
On the other hand we have Edward who is moody and possessive. A true role model for the younger generation!
We now come to my first choice of absolute worst ship - a tv ship. Many of you will disagree, but I absolutely cannot stand these two:
Will and Emma (Glee)You may or may not know this - I've watched the first season of Glee, with the exception of a couple of episodes, even though I hated it. I felt that I should keep up and I would only be allowed to criticise it if I did in fact watch it and follow the plot, and this story is one of the most unfortunate things about it. My annoyance with this couple mostly has to do with the character of Emma, even though Will is whingy, pathetic and lacks a backbone. But Emma! First of all I will very shallowly say I have never, ever in my life seen a ginger girl who was so ugly. And you know how much I love my ginger girls!! Secondly, it's very much the same as Bella's clumsiness. OCD? Not attractive. No matter how much the screenwriters want me to think it's 'cute'... it is not. And getting to however old her character is a virgin? Also not cute. Don't get me wrong, it could happen, but it doesn't make a character any more endearing - people are not more or less worthy based on their sexual experience! The same way everyone always says a girl who's been with lots of guys shouldn't be considered a slut, then a girl who's never been with one shouldn't be considered more virtuous.
