Welcome to the new frontier, stranger. For those of you who have played IX, have a refresher course and a trip down memory lane plus a few adaptations made for the purposes of this game. It's far more likely, however, that you've never touched IX in your life in which case let us introduce you to the world you will be living in from this day forth. This information does not by any means need to be memorized. In fact, it's listed here so that you don't have to. Think of it as a handy reference, so that you and your character(s) are free to focus on your adventure.

Go on, the world is yours for the taking.

For even handier reference, here's a World Map of Gaia!

Forgotten Continent;

Oeilvert - An ancient building filled with technology non-native to Gaia. It is riddled with holograph projections that hint at being records from another world. Its most notable feature is a room with talking stone masks that serve as a preservation of a world history. An additional oddity is that there is an anti-magic field here that prevents the use of any magic.

Ipsen's Castle - An architectural marvel, this castle is entirely upside down. Its astounding construction implies that it could possibly not be native to Gaia. It was discovered centuries before by the famed explorer Ipsen, for whom the castle is named. The upside down nature of the building plays out in the usefulness of weapons used within its walls. The location is settled within the Hadris Basin and is only accessible via airship.

Alfitaria- Unarguably the largest city on the Forgotten Continent, Alfitaria is the sprawling capital city of the Lilty Kingdom, or it was until its arrival on Gaia. Despite its displacement, the metropolis has much to offer residents and travelers alike and rivals Lindblum for size, population, and technological prowess. At the front gates are the sprawling Queen's Gardens. Within the city proper, there are hovering shuttles which usher residence to other parts of the city such as the Royal Library, Fountain Park Avenue, the Airship Docks and the famous Royal Stadium, home to grand Kickerbaul tournaments. There is a grand train system also in place, although without crystals to power the engines, and tracks on which to run, this mode of transportation is unavailable to the public.

Troia - Another matriarchal society, Troia is famous for women running the show in traditionally male jobs. There are any number of shops, a castle, a chocobo nursery and the King's Bounty Club, home to some of the best dancing girls around. Admittance to the show is permitted only with a special member's pass. Troia is situated on the eastern coast of continent, overlooking the sea.

Devil's Road - This passage is not named for jest. Through mighty Lunarian technology, it provides rapid transport across the world, as it is riddled with a maze of teleporters. Traversing its paths is not easy as it is filled with undead creatures and life sapping floors. In Gaia, it connects Mysidia to Troia through well-concealed rooms that have to be unsealed to utilize its capabilities. Deep within, a myrrh tree has sprung up despite being barred from sunlight. (Note: This is the FFIV: The After Years version.)

Tomb of the Unknown King; A labyrinth tomb overrun with greenery and waterways, rumor has it that this is the resting place of Dollet’s last emperor. However superstition forbids the speaking of his name for fear of bad luck, and eventually it’s been forgotten to time. A myrrh tree guards the king’s coffin in the depths of the crypt. Monsters freely roam the twisting paths and it is said a powerful summon dwells within as well, waiting for one who can master it.

Oerba - Described by some Sky People as a “modern” city, Oerba is little more than an abandoned town littered with snow-like crystal dust. Nothing remains of the people who once inhabited the place, other than old signs of life like children’s drawings in the school, railroad tracks that lead to nothing, empty living spaces and wind farms. It is a desolate place crawling with monsters, although no Cie’th or Cie’th Stones are present. In the very center of the town, a myrrh tree stands as guardian of a lost people’s memories. It marks the place where Jidoor once thrived in Gaia.

Zanarkand - Located on the western coast of the continent by the entrance to the Seaways Canyon, Zanarkand exists in a state of eternal sunset. The ruins are little more than a heartbreaking testament to an entire civilization wiped out, swarming with monsters, and oddly enough balls of light, called pyreflies, that dance and float in the Gaian Mist. Considered a sacred place, few travel there, although there are rumors that a powerful fayth waits within for a summoner with the courage to claim it. Those who do traverse the ruins often find themselves confronted with memories from the past. Within the innermost chamber, a myrrh tree stands.

Raithwall's Tomb - Raithwall's Tomb is situated in the Hadris Basin, facing Ipsen's Castle. It is a formidable construct, impressive and yet terrifying. Entrance is only possible by way stone, and it is said that none are permitted to walk its halls, save descendants of the Dynast-King Raithwall. But within is his legendary treasure, as well as his final resting place... and walls that come to life to crush or kill intruders. A myrrh tree has recently appeared inside the tomb. This location is only accessible via airship.

Tozus - Tozus is within an enclosed forest on the eastern coast of the continent. It is home to gnomes and a small supply of shops. The inhabitants are friendly enough, even though not many of them are present. Please note: This village is only accessible when your character is in Mini status, otherwise, you'll pass right over it and never realize it was there. In recent attacks, Tozus was squished underfoot and is currently undergoing reconstruction by the gnomes.
