World Map of Gaia! Lost Continent & Islands;
Esto Gaza
; Esto Gaza is situated in the cold, far northern Lost Continent, and considered to be the only place holy enough to see the Path of Souls. It is the destination of many devout pilgrims who come to the enclosed town, intending to view the Shimmering Island. The Island, which was destroyed five years ago, reformed after the burst of light, and has once again started producing the glittery Path of Souls. Every religious shrine needs its method of generating revenue, and the gift shop inside the temple carries quality equipment, perhaps as an incentive for visitors.
Mount Gulug
; Site of extinct volcano, this mountain still seethes with lava, and it is rumored to be the site of the mythical fire shrine. Until the changes in the landscape had come, the path to the shrine was open, although now it is once again sealed and a fearsome beast guards the way. The old town within the mountain has gone missing entirely.
Narshe
; Narshe is a mining town, which has been transported into Gaia, mines and all. Its situation along Mount Gulug places it in a northern, snowy clime not too far removed from its original. The mines themselves are still functioning and pull coal from the ground to be shipped to more inhabited areas for the production of steam energy. Deep inside the caves, a myrrh tree can be found where an esper once resided.
Sanctuary of Zi'tah; In the far north east of the Lost Continent rests the Sanctuary of Zi'tah, an ancient pilgrimage site, which is a coniferous and vast forest with no man-made roads. An area of extreme beauty, flanked with trees more than a thousand years old and ancient streams full to the brim with silver fish bridged with the moss covered roots of these trees. They reach so high and the foliage so dense that sunlight never penetrates to the forest floor. Goblins are the only fishermen. Throughout the forest are beautiful yet dangerous Crystals embedded in the ground which are shine eerily unto their surroundings at nightfall, each crystal defended by gigantic creatures only seen at night known as golems. Monsters known as Goobue work dilligently gardening this area- though one is warned to not get too close to them. They are carniverous - and gardening Zi'tah is hungry work. Its arrival in Gaia has wrought a strange change to these lands, changing the Tree of Life Boyahda into a myrrh tree.
Forgotten City; Deep within the Sanctuary of Zi’tah, a mystical city fashioned to look like the sea floor exists. It is nothing more than a forgotten ruins, but contained within is a sacred site where it is said it’s possible to speak with the world itself. Underground is an amazing castle with turrets and spires, which contains a spring and an altar as well. The dais is sheltered by a myrrh tree. Much of the city proper shows signs of the previous inhabitants, indicating it was abandoned in a hurry.
Daguerreo
; Possibly one of the largest library collections in Gaia, Daguerreo draws scholars of all ages and experiences to her halls. The library seems to have a mysterious connection to the god of water, as a small altar resides within her halls, and waterfalls lie without. Known the world over as a premiere source of information, merchants and even a synthesist have set up shop, so that the patrons need not leave the locale to attend to more practical matters. The levers and lifts which allow access to the upper floors are an unmatched engineering feat. Recently, they have been adapted to also permit access to the newly built harbor at sea level.
Moogle Village; An expansive forest sprawls across Sacrobless Island not far from the sea and within view of the grand library of Daguerreo, situated on a high plateau. Within that forest is a bustling and vibrant village of Moogles who love to have visitors, but don’t offer much by way of amenities aside from a copious supply of cuddling buddies. Can anyone resist those pompoms? The village itself is comprised of treehouses and not much else.
Crystal Tower
; On the Yuanshao Peninsula, which juts off the Forgotten Continent, a monstrously behemoth tower, constructed of crystal, looms in waiting. It is surrounded by a enormous labyrinth, and is rumored to be the place where light and dark meet. It is certain that the protective maze crawls with mighty fiends, as every adventurer who attempted the maze can attest--if he made it out alive before he turned back. A myrrh tree awaits on the top floor.
Tida; This desolate little town once knew happiness and sunshine. But one day it’s Crystal’s blessing faded. As the Miasma set in, the people stayed, waiting in hope for their caravan to return with light giving myrrh. One by one they fell, dying in their hope. Now it is a barren and lifeless warren for monsters. Where once stood its protective Crystal, a myrrh tree has emerged from the memories of the townspeople passed on.
Wutai
; Located on the once empty Lanar Island, Wutai is a beautiful herald from another world, with bright red houses, colorful gardens, bridges spanning peaceful waters and a mountainous-sized Da Chao to meditate upon. While the town itself is not overly large, it appears to be quite accommodating to visitors. Tourists are taken with the local tea room, newly built hot springs resort and the bar, Turtle's Paradise. (For the FFVII buffs, this is pre-war Wutai. There is no mako reactor present.)
Temple of Time; The abandoned cave of the lagoon at Palmnell Island is the secret entrance to the Temple of Time, an underwater shrine said to contain magical treasures. This is only speculation as no one has laid eyes upon it, although cartography moogles insist that it is indeed there. The also claim that a mysterious tree grows within.
Sinner's Isle & Citadel of Trials
; Just off the southernmost point of Palmnell Island is a single island known as Sinner's Isle. The island itself is so small that it is only accessible by boat, as there is not even landing space for an airship. The whole of the island, also known as Kilanda Isle, is one volcanic mountain which constantly has hot lave churning and traveling down its slopes. This is a place of exile and condemnation for the most vile of criminal and heretical offenders, who are left stranded to their fate. Yet nestled within the peak of the mountain is a solitary and treacherous path which leads to the
Citadel of Trials. It is said that the father of dragons, Bahamut, waits inside to bestow unimaginable gifts on those with the bravery and endurance to face the trials, and overcome them.
Pandaemonium
; Raised from the very pits of hell, this ominous castle dominates the landscape of the Salvage Archipelago. Dark and sinister, and full of the very spawn of the world of the dead, none dare set foot in this terrible place. Rumor has it that only a world shattering spell can break the entrance to Pandaemonium, whose arrival is a harbinger of destruction. (Note: This is the version from FFII.)
Rebena Ta Re
; These stunning ruins are all that remains of what was once a prosperous civilization. Now overrun with monsters of unimaginable strength, few brave the dark depths and winding passages of Rebena Ta Re. A small beacon of light and hope lingers with in: a myrrh tree grows in the ancient throne room. (Everlang Island)
Muruc Cashuac Skysea and Port Marlith
; Where once stood Chocobo's Air Garden, a new spectacle has arisen: an island boasting a shimmering skysea and a bustling port town, rife with air pirates out to raise their booty. The island is only accessible via airship, but that doesn't prevent any number of tourists and adventurers to seek out her eternally summery shores. Since being transported into Gaia, the other islands that once dotted the Skysea seem to be missing, but regardless, a bustling nightlife scene has cropped up as well from the sheer influx of visitors. Vacation homes belonging to the wealthy and noble now dot the white sandy beaches all along the waters.
