After leaving university I didn't play for a couple of years, then I started again for a bit and then hit a wall about 18 months ago. Just found this community, saying hello! I'm Jenny, I've been playing the violin on and off since I was about 8... as far as non-traditional I've accompanied a couple of my friends' bands, but that's about it.

Okay. I'm going to be getting an electric violin sooner or later and I need to learn the lingo.

Tell me everything you know about pickups, pre amps, amps, anything. What they're for, what they do, why I need them, etc.

I just got a preamp for my violin!!! Hooray!!!!!!! now I'm ready for effects. What do you guy's use? I'm trying to find something not too expensive. So far it's ether Zoom, or Digitech.
