Just returned from a quite enjoyable trip to Cape Cod. Kids liked splashing around in the water. We bought an inflatable raft, which was quite a hit. In future, I would probably try to rent a place that gets professional cleaners at the end of each stay (this one relies on the previous guest to clean, and as a result was pretty dusty - not good ( Read more... )

So here we are at the Cape. Noted fairdice's entry re: paying attention to kids' reactions vs. one's own. On this vacation, we have deliberately been trying to do things in ways that the kids would appreciate (even if they don't know it :-) ) with pretty good success. On Monday, elder progeny decided to whack younger progeny against the wall, resulting in a gash on Younger's head from the radiator. To Elder's credit, feelings of guilt and horror were expressed. Family party (engagement party for a cousin on hubby's side) was as expected -- lots of people I don't know, not much for kids to do.
