Simplicity's Pirate Coat
I'm almost done with my husband's new pirate coat, and I'm so happy with it! I used Simplicity's "Pirates of the Caribbean" pattern, and it went together very easily. I have a few quibbles with the pattern -- the placement of the "pocket" flap is about 5-6" too high (which I corrected), I'd rather see a full lining than a facing around the neck/ ( Read more... ) -
A productive week -- sort of
I was on vacation last week, so I finally had a chance to test-drive the new sewing room. It's fabulous, I tell you, fabulous! Everything is within reach, the lighting is excellent, and it's even easier to sew a straight line now that I have a true flatbed cabinet instead of a portable machine sitting on top of the dining room table. I have a sewing room!
At long last, after much planning and moving things around and organizing and painting and slipcovering and building furniture, I have a fully functional, dedicated sewing room! Withdrawal Syndrome - it's not what you think.
Today I officially withdrew from the Margo Patterns Portrait Contest. There's just no way I could ever get that gown done in the next 29 days. Oh, I'll get the gown done eventually, but not in the very near future.

Four months to go, and I've barely started. I've managed to cut out a new corset, but mainly I've been working on my husband's paned slops. And I've only been working on them for three years! My entry in the Margo's List Portrait Contest will be a Tudor gown based on Holbein's "Miniature of an Unknown Lady (sometimes called Catherine Howard)", circa 1541.
