Abandoned WIPs for adoption gammods January 31 2012, 21:40:25 UTC
This thread is for an author that wants to let people know that a fic is abanndoned, and is willing to put the fic up for adoption for someone else to continue on with the WIP.

Please comment with a link to the thread, and any notes you have & want to let people know about. If any discussion between author & new author is welcomed, going to be long & needed to be anonymous, please let us know. We can arrange a post somewhere for you to talk.

Please Remember: this is at the author's discretion only. They can not be asked to abandon a WIP & put it up for adoption. Any such comments on any of the prompt posts will be deleted.

I'm relinquishing 2 of my WIPs.

Hell Isn't a Place this is a Puck-centric fill centering around Puck developing PTSD, anxiety and possibly OCD as result of being locked in the overturned porta-potty overnight. I discovered that the act of writing this was too triggery for me, so I have to let it go.

Finn sexsomnia This is an untitled fill I posted 5 parts for, but the muses ran away on me, so I honestly don't see myself ever finishing it. Finn has sexsomnia and accidentally rapes Kurt while he's asleep. Non-con warning.

Round Up anonymous February 1 2012, 03:04:16 UTC
Why is there no round up or link to delicious or whatever archive site you use? It is impossible to find fics on this site, and it is extremely irritating to have to go through each page of a prompt post to find fics.

I'm currently working on the round ups but due to 1)chronic illness, 2)study, 3)other pressing obligations offline and online which causes contant interuptions, it's been a slow process. This includes getting them tagged so they are also found on delicious. The round up journal is unavailable at the moment due to changes in the layout, and I will be going through delicious to organise out substantial changes, hence it not being currently linked.

As said in the mod comment on the prompt post, I'm hoping to get them completed by Friday, and then keep it a regular update. But until then, please give patience while we are adjust things.

Older fics can either be found on Delicious http://www.delicious.com/glee.angstmeme/!!status%3Afilled

Debate Threads - Quick Introduction rosesofnight February 3 2012, 10:33:20 UTC
We've had a request for a friendly discussion/debates to happen on the discussion post and these are always welcome. Feel free to start any friendly debate you feel about a topic!

We've mentioned previously that rules on the discussion post are somewhat more lenient than prompt posts --- particularly where a heated tone on the pp post would normally get more involvement due to trying to keep wank down.

ON the discussion post however, we allow controversial topics and understand the tone could get quite heated. However, there are still a few rules:

- Everyone is allowed an opinion

- Disagree with the idea or opinion and explain why to initiate discussion while understanding that the other person is allowed to have a differing opinion. Don't diss the person you're talking to.

- No character bashing. Discuss the scene in context and explain your opinion based on scenes & actions of the character, not your personal thought of the character.

A recent example of that is the Finn/Santana discussion thread which people still ( ... )

What people consider to be plagiarism? Is it just claiming someone else's words as your own or does it cover people copying your posts and posting them elsewhere without your permission even if they give you credit.

Considering the existence of various memes and other platforms such as Tumblr, which tend to have their own individual etiquettes, this could be quite an interesting topic.

Of course taking something someone else wrote and posting it as your own is plagiarism. That's probably something we can all agree on. But I've seen people copying posts or rants from a user's LJ and posting it to a community without the user's knowledge, saying 'this user posted this: text here' and to me, that's at the very least of violation. They could easily post a link to the journal if they need to draw attention to the post so badly(even though they're mostly just using it to bash the user and that's wrong too) but they choose to copy and post the entire thing and it gives the original user to no ability to delete the post, as they could on their own journal ( ... )

I pretty much agree with that, with one exception - quotations. Copying and pasting sections of something someone has said is not plaigiarism, it's a quotation. Done all the time in academic studies, essays, reports, and plenty of other official-type things that are often widely circulated. The author of those derivative texts has no say over whether or not those pieces of their own work are used.

(Obviously this is different if we're talking about bullying or making fun of other people, but I'm just talking about the hypothetical act of copying part of someone's post and reposting it with credit. It's not always an act of derision.)

O/T Questions (thread will contain spoilers for various TV shows/movies/books) anonymous February 8 2012, 18:34:09 UTC
1. If you could write a spin-off for any character/s out of any TV show, movie, or book, which character/s would you write?

2. Which character/s death still affects you even though it's been a while since you saw/read about it?

Character discussion: Will Schuester anonymous February 9 2012, 19:59:04 UTC
Partially in reference to This prompt but also several other prompts over the history of the meme.

What do you guys think about Will? It's obvious he's a well meaning person, but is that enough? Does wanting to help people make up for all the times he's accidentally hurt people or offended people because of his ignorance and lack of awareness?

What do you guys think about Will? Is he supposed to be a main character? Do you think the writer's expect us to find him a good person? Do you think he is a good person?

Or is his problematic nature intended by the writers to make a point? Does it work?

I am curious as to everyone's opinions on Will.

Honestly, I think that Will, along with most of the problems on Glee, are the product of the writers' not caring that a small percentage of fans analyze things. The general audience doesn't, they just take what they're given then move on to the next show. They probably figure why spend time trying to explain or rearrange things when the general audience just doesn't care.
He does though, have a lot of traits that I would consider 'good'. He does apologize, he can show remorse, compassion, he does care about his students. He may have or do things that stereotype people but really, the entire show does that. But straight, white males get called out on it and the rest don't.
I'm not a Will fan, but that has to do with him being so close to his students is a little disturbing. Again, probably a writing problem because they don't want to cast adults for his friends.

I think that Will thinks that he is a good person, and the show certainly does. But they rarely show him to be so. He's a selfish, patronizing ass with no sense of his own hypocrisy. He's incredibly inappropriate as a teacher, consistently makes poor judgment calls, and misdiagnoses all the issues in his life as the result of mistreatment by his peers or worse, his failing to pursue his dreams, when in reality they are caused by his own moral shortcomings. Which would be great, if the show actually explored his flaws and presented them as such, instead of handwaving everything he does or worse, glorifying it.

For me, this raises the question of intention and self-knowledge. Will is meant, I think, to be a good but flawed person, but his flaws stem from cluelessness, so in a way it's hard to say whether he is a good person or not. He does what he thinks is right, he tries to make up for it when he does something that he perceives is wrong, but he still ends up doing a lot of things that are wrong. For me, the biggest one is rejecting Becky when she asked to join--he could have found something for her to do in order to belong ( ... )
