Today was probably the best that I have had in the last month. I went with my mom to her oncologist appointment and we received some hopeful news.

Right now, she is in stage three cancer. Tomorrow she will have a MRI, to make sure nothing has spread to her brain. Next week, she has a PET scan, which will see if anything has spread anywhere else. ( Read more... )

Things are worse. It turns out that there is no way that she will be cured. The only possibility now is prolonging her life...maybe a few years, but more likely a few months.

At first, I wasn't going to write about Dene's baby shower. I figured that I bitched about it enough and that anyone reading my journal would think that I'm not happy for Dene. When  I think of dressing for a shower, I think of two things...pastels and conservative.  I spent this morning scrambling for an appropriate ensemble for Dene's shower. I finally managed to pull something together- dark grey skirt, pink sweater, knee high boots and a black headband. It looks appropriate. Blah!!!

Tomorrow morning I am going to Dene's baby shower. I just checked the evite and about fifteen people are coming. Although, the number is actually higher, about half the people are bringing their babies. This is great. I will not only be surrounded by people that I don't know, but also their children. I got about three hours of sleep and woke up feeling awful. I really didn't feel like going to work today. However, I decided to make the best of it and dress a little nicer for work. I spent a majority of today at the Verdugo Hills Hospital as my mom had her tumor biopsied. Mom's back home and she is basically doing fine. She has a small cut on her throat, but was basically up and making demands as soon as the surgery was over. She swears that she is going in to volunteer at the police station tomorrow. I just found out that Julie is having a girl! It's some good news in an otherwise bleak month. I got enthusiastic and told her that I wanted to throw the baby shower.
