I took my A+ exams today. Passed 'em. -
Bad news, good news, bad news, aaaaaaaaaaand good news.
First, the bad news. Yesterday a particularly stubborn mass of effluvia stopped up my toilet so severely that the bowl overflowed. A brave pipe snake gave its life to clear that passage and send the errant turd to its final abode. The aftermath was the worst part ( Read more... ) -

I got suspicious when my older brother asked me to take him to the pawn shop to get rid of an old air compressor, so I did a quick survey of my stuff and found that sometime in the last two weeks he'd taken 25$ out of my change jars. The story
Last Tuesday, mom had an appointment for some routine thyroid surgery. It was supposed to be very outpatient; I'd drop her off at 7:30am and pick her up around 10:00am after running some errands. Making a player-friendly DVD from videos you download off the intertubes is suprisingly frustrating. But I've done it with a combination of shareware and a built-in Windows tool, after more advanced options failed me. Apparently MPEG-2 conversion is very picky.
Now I can watch this classic example of early horror cinema on the TV screen instead of ( Read more... ) -

I am enjoying the A+ class immensely. Can't remember having a class that was so much fun.
Still worried about the costs, though. The actual exams are going to be expensive.

Mixed bag this weekend
I'm starting the A+ class at Greenville Tech on Monday. Pretty jazzed about it, the instructor is a super awesome guy who reminds me of Neil deGrasse Tyson. In fact, I'm not sure he isn't Tyson, under an assumed identity to hide from the Pluto-lovers ( Read more... ) -

Well that was a huge disappointment. I just got back from meeting with my case manager. She basically looked everything over again, looked at the available jobs, and asked me if I really wanted training (of course, that's the reason I'm here) or if I wanted her help to find me another manufacturing job, because she can only give me the former if it ( Read more... ) -

I spent the day shuttling people all over town. First, dropping off my older brother to his interview at the Holiday Inn Express. He got the job! He'll start out with part-time hours, but should be full-time after a training period, and making slightly more than minimum wage. This is fantastic news ( Read more... )
