Been thinking of this song off and on all day.  Dad lost his battle this morning.

It's an absolutely glorious fall day, I got my hair done, had a lovely lunch with my cousin and the kids (who have been pretty well-behaved), and so far my gallbladder hasn't revolted over the meal, so all in all, it's a pretty good day. So yes, it is cancer.  Dad has a tumor "the size of a golf ball, maybe a golf ball and a half" in his colon, very near the beginning of the colon itself.  The location is (according to the stomach specialist) "very operable" without even the necessity of having a colostomy.  The not-so-good news is that he also has spots on his liver and lungs.  ( Read more... )

My Dad never called me Friday, which worried my Sister and me, since we figured that meant he had found out the worst news possible.  We were afraid he was upset and unable to or didn't want to talk.  But at 8:30pm (his appt had been at 3:45), I'd had enough and called him.  I got the distinct impression he had no intention of calling M. or me, ( Read more... )

The doctor told Dad on the phone that his blood sugar (fasting test) was elevated, around 106 Dad thought he said.  His cholesterol is also up, but his thyroid is just fine.  The doctor claimed that the tumor marker tests weren't back yet, but that he'd have them for their follow up appointment Friday (tomorrow).  The doctor did say that he'd ( Read more... )
