Oh crap indeed. Poor Haley, she doesn't even know what changed, how the hell is she going to explain to him what changed.
Of all the things for Nathan to go through, don't think that one was even on my radar. So sad for someone with such talent and promise to be ruined by such an ass of a father and a mindless accusation and rumor. I'm glad he finally talked to someone about it, and that that someone was Haley.
It definitely means something if, after five years of being apart, she's still the one person he can confide in, can trust to listen to him and comfort him. And I think whether she admits it to herself/him or not, she wants to be that person. and that in itself means something.
This is so great, as usual, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
I predict she will fumble and bumble her way through that conversation awkwardly, as she is wont to do. :)
Nathan's got a tough situation to deal with, right? The boy should invest in a shrink, stat. Lord knows he probably needs one! And it can't be Haley, either. He can't use her in that capacity, or at least rely solely on her. So, we'll see what happens! Well, you'll see...I know. Oh, the perks.
Oh wow, things have really fallen into place and make alot more sense now.
And oh crap is right Haley. Oh, now it's her turn to explain herself!
Anyhoo, I really enjoyed this chapter. I'm glad Haley could be there for Nathan because he's obviously kept all of that in for a very long time. I love how the warning signals kept going off in her head. Those two just seem to have this need to always be physically close to one another and it's always harder to deny when they're in close proximity. I just love it.
Oh Gosh. You sure do know how to make things dramatic doncha! What an awful thing to happen to him, God!
I'm glad you pointed out that Nathan had started thinking seriously about Haley again before it happened, like it's not all about him clinging to her memory at a desperate time.
I can't wait to read the next update - hopefully Haley will give him the courtesy of letting him in the same way, although she's always been less inclined to let him in so freely so we'll see. I'm also looking forward to the laley convo now she knows - the one you're defintiely going to write - right? Pretty please?
Heh. Thanks! I do seem to have a flair for the dramatic! But where's the fun without it?
Poor Nathan, right? But yes, Haley has always been on his mind. More than he'll admit, too, and he's admitted a lot.
Haley's definitely more closed off than he is, but her traumatic, life-changing events are all tied to him. So it's definitely not as easy for her to let him back in as it is for him.
I'll try and get the next update posted soon! I don't know that there's much LH in that one off the top of my head, but they'll get into it soon, don't you worry!
Thank you, Elizabeth! I'm glad that you enjoyed this chapter. Haley's hunting Nathan down really was prompted by her inability to let things go - she had to know, you know
( ... )
EEKS. Oh, how I love. I seriously dread each end of the chapter because I'm so wrapped up in their lives here and every.single.word exchanged between them. Le sigh
( ... )
I'm glad you're enjoying Haley's headspace. I find that I usually do, too. And I think Nathan does, too. So, we're all agreed then! Go Haley's crazy head!
No, Nathan is about as far from perfect as everyone is, and he makes more than his fair share of mistakes. It's sort of too bad, ironic almost, that the one mistake that wasn't any fault of his own is the one that cost him the most, you know? And he's definitely different now; grown up a lot!
Thank you! It's nice to have you notice my attempts at levity. Even though it is obviously still incredibly hard for Nathan to talk about, he has probably moved past it enough that he can cry over it one moment and laugh about something ridiculous the next. Maybe that lends a bit to the comfort levels that still exist between them in some weird, twisted way.
No, no, thank YOU! :) I'll be working on this one again soon, once TL is finished. Which it either is or damn near is. Heh. We shall see!
