Ship meme - Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?
Such an easy one. So easy, in fact, that it doesn't even give me any satisfaction to post it. I'm going to be predictable as well and repeat erychan86 's choice for this category - and since neither Chiara nor Mark have posted yet, who's to say they're not going to choose the same couple as well? After all, we all pretty much had a similar feeling about them.
Also, stealing answers from Ery allows me to use her graphics and saves me a lot of time Googling images :D
Sawyer/Juliet (Lost)
This is quite a recent ship and I can say I remember the first hints of it came up in the promo for season 5. And I seem to remember that at the time we were all (with the possible exception of Mark who was superexcited about it even then) "what are they trying to do? they're not seriously trying to put those two together are they?".
A few of my friends shipped Juliet/Jack, for no other reason that they liked Juliet, so really, they just wanted to see her happy. Of course the definition of happy shifted when we got to see Dharmaville 1977. They're absolutely adorable and it's not just that they worked - it was really also easy for all the viewers I know to get used to the idea of them as a couple, because it made sense. Start afresh: new people, new jobs, new relationship - a second chance at life. Of course it had to end tragically - one of us (who exactly? I don't remember) wrote recently that Juliet had "tragic death" written all over her character right from the very beginning, and it's kinda true.
Also, personally I loathe what they have done with the flash-sideways, and I wish they'd gone with my interpretation of things (bigheaded much? :P) rather than that stupid religious bullshit, BUT - the scene of them reuniting at the vending machine in the finale was definitely worth sitting through all the stupid stuff.
