So I've owned this book for a long time, but the first time I picked it up, I didn't get past the fourth page. Last Friday night, I tried again, and suddenly I was hooked.

I only find time to read printed books on Shabbat, so I'm only two-thirds of the way done, but I think I love this book.

( Spoilers for the first two 'books' of Dune )

I love  my people, and I love this country, but, as a pedestrian, every once in a while I just want to take a baseball bat to the headlights of all those cars parked in a line on the sidewalk, forcing me onto the street.

Am I alone in this?

Today is Yom HaZikaron, Israel's Memorial Day for all its citizens who were killed in wars and terrorist attacks. At 11:00 AM, there is a two-minute siren all over the country, and everyone stops what they're doing, and stands at attention. See the following example:

I love his writing style, but I can't make it through One Thousand Years of Solitude; because it's just too long (not in the number of pages, but because the story is so densely compacted that it feels like the book should be over already by the time you hit page 10).  And I've ( Read more... )
