By the time the next Weekly Recs is posted, authors will have a brand new piece of canon with which to play. I'm so excited!
Completed Stories:
(Mostly newly-completed stories, plus some old ones if I haven't read them before.)
"Two Strangers" by Embolalia
[R, Tony/Ziva, set post 3x02 "Kill Ari (Part 2)", ~1,750 words]
Summary: It doesn't matter that they were complete strangers 72 hours ago; now they share a crucial piece of their own histories. It is enough.
KEW note: The author freely acknowledges that this story's events are highly improbable within NCIS canon, but the feelings of grief and alienation that she conjures feel very true to the characters.
"Impulse Control" by rosesinjanuary
[PG-13, McGee/Abby, ~4,000 words]
Summary: Sometimes, it's best to just give in.
KEW note: One of those stories that makes you feel good and perfectly happy. Chapter 2 is fantastic.
"High" by LittleSammy (
littlesammy)
[NC-17, Tony/Ziva, ~875 words,
alternate link]
Quote: She's so alive in these short nights, the ones that make his blood run high with a need that is so hard to satisfy because it never fully is.
Summary: Finding a suitable-for-general-audiences quote to summarize this one was a bit difficult. One of the most agonizing stories I've read recently (in a positive way). Alive with energy but ultimately about the failure of emotion.
"Respect" by Ink on Paper (
ink_on_paper93)
[PG, McGee, Tony, Ziva, 100 words]
Quote: "You had sex," McGee states bluntly as Tony walks in, emanating contentedness.
"As the Man in Charge" by Eyes-of-Pearl (
pearly_eyes)
[PG, Tony, set during 4x01 "Shalom", 241 words,
alternate link]
Quote: As the numbers crept up, indicating the hours that Ziva had been on the run from both NCIS and the FBI, Tony felt the ever burgeoning weight upon his shoulders.
"Visto y No Visto (Eyewitnessing)" by
heirofloki *NOW COMPLETE
[PG, Ziva, Tony, Vance, ~7,800 words]
KEW note: Chapters are not linked together: Parts
2,
3,
4, and
5. A wonderful story that in the end is all about fathers and their children.
Works in Progress:
(Stories in this section will be carried over week to week as long as I continue to follow them or until they are completed or abandoned. Recent updates will be noted.)
"Fallen Angels" by Sashile (
sashile) *NEW
[PG-13, ensemble plus Harm Rabb (JAG), casefile, sequel to
"The Price of Honesty"]
Summary: A senior JAG goes missing in Bahrain. A junior pilot falls from the skies. As DiNozzo is trying to find his way as team leader and Gibbs is getting used to a new team, they realize that these two cases may not be unrelated.
KEW note: Chapters 1 and 2 posted. I'm excited to see another story in this excellent series of casefiles. This author brings something extremely unique in her approach to writing NCIS fic: she's in the military. I almost always learn something new from reading her stories. This latest one includes some appearances by JAG characters, but I can vouch for it being understandable to someone who's never seen that series.
"Se llamaba Paloma" by
sara_f_black (
sfb_escritos) *NEW
[PG, Paloma Reynosa, pre-series]
Quote: Las niñas comunes pasaban sus tardes jugando con muñecas y soñando a ser mamás. Paloma pasaba las tardes en la biblioteca con su madre, leyendo clásicos que su mente recién llegaba a entender.
KEW note: Chapters 1 and 2 posted. This author has a great talent for bringing out fascinating shades of secondary characters. Here she takes the intriguing concept of how Paloma Reynosa grew up to be the woman she is, and writes a fic to match.
"Topsy Turvy" by Bob Rhynoplasty (
bobrhynoplasty) *UPDATED
[PG-13, Tony, Gibbs, pre-series, sequel to
"Slaughter House"]
Author's Summary: Tony knew that he would meet Gibbs again, he just hoped it would be under better circumstances...
KEW NOTE: Chapters 17-19 added. We've reached the "Aha" moment when the team starts to figure out the case, and it's great.
"Rag Doll" by cheekymice (
cheekymice) *UPDATED
[PG, Tony-centric,
alternate link]
Author's Summary: Tony finds himself cut off from the rest of the team when Vance sends him on a difficult and unpleasant undercover assignment.
KEW note: Chapter 11 added.
"Half a World Away" by Squinttoyou *UPDATED
[Bones, PG-13, Booth/Brennan, set post 5x22 "The Beginning in the End"]
Summary: The world is a big place, but it's not that hard to stay in touch.
KEW note: Chapters 64-69 added. They're almost back to DC...
"A History of Smoke and Mirrors" by
ama_blue [Bones, PG-13, Booth/Brennan, Booth/OFC, set post 5x22 "The Beginning in the End"]
Summary: "You strike metal against metal for long enough, sweetie, you're supposed to catch a spark. Even us non-scientists know." A post-finale fic about a whole lot of things that never really change, and some things that do.
"Symbiosis" by Zaedah (
zaedah)
[PG, McGee, Tony/Ziva]
Author's Summary: "The thing that sticks a hook in McGee's gaping mouth in the midst of the unannounced programming is that Tony doesn't seem surprised."
"The Right to Serve" by McStories (
mcstories)
[NC-17, ensemble, past McGee/OMC, casefile]
Summary: A Marine appears to have been murdered simply for being gay. When the victim is linked to a member of his team Gibbs is forced to tackle Don't Ask Don't Tell head-on, and it leads him somewhere he never thought he'd go.
"Rule Zero" by timewalker05
[PG-13, ensemble, casefile]
Summary: When a body shows up with 'Rule 40' carved on it's chest, it appears that there is a killer on the loose with a personal connection to Gibb's team.
"Sicarii" by PegasusUnbound
[R, Ziva, set after 6x25 "Aliyah"]
Summary: It was like she'd once told McGee . . . there is only so much torment the human body can endure. No one can hold out forever, not even Gibbs. Not even her.
"Heartbeats" by wildskysong
[PG-13, ensemble, supernatural]
Summary: "Does it hurt?" She asked him, her living green eyes meeting his dead ones. "Being dead, I mean." He smiled a little, his eyes far away, and before he could answer, he slipped away, his glowing outline melting into the air.
"Regency" by Trinity Destler (
trinity_destler)
[PG, ensemble, set after 3x4 "Hiatus",
alternate link]
Author's Summary: In the fallout after "Hiatus" the team copes, Tony leads, and it isn't at all like they expected.
"The Impractical Heart" by Pough
[PG-13, Tony-centric]
Author's Summary: When a tiny virus sweeps through Tony's body, leaving catastrophic results, his team remains vigilant.
Ongoing Stories:
(These stories follow the events of canon or are collections of one-shots and therefore could continue indefinitely. Recent updates are noted. Stories will roll over from week to week until I stop following or they are abandoned. )
"Still and Always, McGee" by Malvolia *UPDATED
[G, McGee/Abby]
Author's Summary: Sometimes you have to give something up to safeguard something you want more. A series of one-shot missing McGee and Abby moments, starting with their break-up.
KEW note: Chapter 38 added. A great chapter featuring McGee's reaction to Mortimer--strangely enough, the first fic I've read with this scenario.
"What's Past is Prologue" by Caliente (
hellokatzchen) *UPDATED
[PG-13, McGee/Abby, set during season 7,
alternate link]
Summary: A series of unrelated add-ins or 'un'-scenes during season 7
KEW note: Chapter 15 added.
"Conversations" by Embolalia
[PG, Ziva, Gibbs]
Author's Summary: A series of one-shot conversations between Ziva and Gibbs over the course of the show.
"Touch and Go" by nancystagerat
[R, Tony/Ziva]
Summary: Suggestive Tiva one-shots, the first involving live weapons & willing partners in an impromptu booty-call, the second a baseball game & one very cold water bottle, the third a private reading of a very specific book, & the rest you'll have to read on for!
"Something More" by CSIGurlie07
[PG-13, Gibbs/Ziva, takes off from 5x12 "Stakeout"]
Author's Summary: The ever-evolving relationship between Ziva and Gibbs. Unusual, unorthodox, and totally right. It started with a stakeout, and nothing will ever be the same.
