The first time someone saw Seunghyun kiss him was when Youngbae got up for a glass of water in the middle of the night and screamed. Daesung ran out of his bedroom with a pillow in front of him like a sword as whipped his head around to find the attacker. Youngbae hit his arm with wide eyes staring straight ahead where Seunghyun’s hands were halfway up his shirt. Seungri lay frozen on the sofa and thanked whatever people usually thank in these situations that Jiyong was staying late in the studio.

Daesung was the first to recover.

“What the hell-”

“Language!”

“Sorry, Bae. What the h-e-double-hockey-sticks is going on over there!? Why are you molesting the maknae!”

Seunghyun groaned and collapsed on top of him. He made no move to answer and in fact burrowed as close to Seungri as possible.

Just. Great. Why were all the difficult conversations left to him?

“Um, hyung, we were just…” He started, not even sure what type of words someone used in this instance. “That is, Seunghyun was just- I mean-”

Seunghyun sighed heavily and reluctantly pulled his hands out from under his tee to stand up. He glared at his two members and even from behind, Seungri could tell he looked terrifying.

“I was just about to -finally- get under Seungri’s shirt. That is until you interrupted us. God knows that’s not happening now.”

Youngbae had the decency to blush while Daesung just grimaced.

“Ew! I did not want to know that about you two!” He mimed puking before hugging his pillow to his chest and dramatically turned to go back to bed. He got three feet before he turned back around and grabbed the still shell shocked Youngbae. “C’mon Bae. No one needs to see that."

By the time Seunghyun had finished checking that they were really back in bed, Seungri already had his shirt back down.

“Um, hyung, I think we should just-” Seunghyun sighed for the umpteenth time and grabbed his hand.

“Yea, I know. Let’s just go to bed.”

“Oh, don’t you think, what with everyone seeing us, you know, we should probably sleep in our own beds tonight? Alone.”

Seunghyun gazed at him critically and it sent panic spiraling though out his body. He blinked and found himself being pulled into the eldest’s room. Gently he was pushed onto the bed. Seunghyun crouched down in front of him and eyed him carefully.

“Seungri, I am going to tell you this one time and one time only, so listen carefully. I am not Jiyong.” Seungri rolled his eyes.

“Hyung, I kn-” Once again he found a hand covering his mouth. He tried to push it off, but Seunghyun was much stronger.

“Shh, I’m not done. What I meant was, I’m not going to hurt you like Jiyong.” His eyes softened and he released his hand. “I can’t promise I’m not ever going to hurt you because at some point we’ll probably both say something we regret. There are some things you don’t know about Jiyong so you probably don’t understand. But, Ri, normal people aren’t like that. Normal people don’t hurt who they love."

“I don’t get it, hyung.”

“He’s…damaged. It’s partly my fault. I should have been a better hyung.” His eyes glazed over like he was somewhere entirely different. Seungri placed a soft hand on his cheek.

“Seunghyun, I’m sure you did everything you coul-” He didn’t even get to finish his perfectly worded comforting speech before his hyung attacked him in a hug. The force pushed them back onto the bed and Seungri relished in the warmth.

“You are going to have to stop being so good to me or I’ll lose my rep as hardcore.”

“Sorry to break it to you hyung, but even Bom is more hardcore than you now.” He released him long enough to give him a light tap on the head.

“Brat.”

They feel asleep, their conversation still weighty in the air. Seungri wished with everything he had that he could have asked what had happened to Jiyong, but he knew Seunghyun would never have told him. The lost look in his eyes told of promises made and blood spilled.

He felt the tingle of hope in his stomach again and ran over Seunghyun’s words in his head.

“Normal people don’t hurt who they love.”

Love. Jiyong loved him. In his own sick way, he loved him.

And in his own sick way, Seungri clung to that like it was his last breath of oxygen. Love…

~*~

Seungri had silent conversations with Jiyong. He would sit two rooms away and watch him. When he joked with Daesung or Youngbae, he would pretend it was him. Sometimes he would tell him jokes.

“Hyung, I heard a new joke yesterday. Wanna hear?”

“Hit me with it, maknae!”

“What do you call a sheep with no legs?“

“I dunno. What?“

“A cloud!”

“Ha, that was good, but have you heard this one? What do you call a…”

Sometimes he would tell him things he didn’t dare say out loud.

“Yesterday Seunghyun asked me if I love him.”

“What did you say?”

“I pretended I was asleep.”

“Well, do you?”

“I don’t think so.”

Sometimes he would tell him about his day like he used to.

“Jiyongie-hyung, Daesung got a new part in a comedy show! I wanted so badly to go when you two went out to celebrate but I didn’t think you would have liked that.”

“Hyung, today I woke up and I didn’t have to fake smile for 2 whole hours. It’s a personal record!”

“Goo Hara called me today. She said she saw the tv program we were on and wants to hurt you for changing me. I pretended I didn’t know what she was talking about, but sometimes I want to hurt you too.”

And sometimes he would tell the truth.

“Hyung, I ache.”

“I know, Ri.”

“Does it ever stop?”

“No.” His heart sunk. “You just get used to it.”

“Well, that’s….something at least.”

“It’s never enough, though.”
