There was so much violence.

Taemin watched sparks on the back of his eyelids while he listened to the banging and yelling that went on around him. He didn't want to be here any more, in this grotesque painful world, and he'd hit his head harder and harder on the metal behind him in an attempt to leave it. He wouldn't, though, because though he didn't realize it, he was moving far too slowly. He was weak, and he could barely even harm himself at all.

"Help me," he kept saying out loud, though he felt certain that no one would hear, and "Get me out. I can't wake up."

The words he said, he didn't hear, and in fact for all he knew he wasn't saying words at all. He probably wasn't, because there was tape stuck over his mouth. It was his thoughts that he was really speaking, and his thoughts were loud and clear, and they were only of escape.

There was a smell in the air, Taemin smelled it all too clearly, it was thick and suffocating. He wondered if it was death. As he deeply breathed through his nose, he'd cough against the tape that muffled him. But then he'd breathe it in any more deeply, because he was never going to escape from this suffering anyway, not unless it was to a more pleasant afterlife.

A voice called his name, and the dancing patterns on the back of his eyelids seem to momentarily freeze. He recognized that voice. But that's what all the fighting noises were, wasn't it? Taemin shook his head, not wanting to think about it. Not wanting to think about his friends in pain because of him...

"Taemin." he heard again, close now, and a gentle hand touched his shoulder. But no, it couldn't be. If that hand held onto him, it would hurt him, like everything in this world did. He screamed a strained sound, leaning away, but the arm moved carefully around him with another one, and he was held in a hug.

"Taemin, you're going to be okay."

Taemin opened his eyes wide, but before he saw the person who hugged him, the person moved behind him. The room was filled with smoke. It was hard to see anything, apart from a bright flame across it. That flame seemed to be spreading so, so fast. He didn't want to burn. He breathed in deep again, and coughed again.

"Stop." the person behind him said, reaching around and pulling the tape off his mouth. "Taemin, stop breathing like that."

"Jay.." Taemin said, eyes filled with stinging tears. "We're going to die like this, I don't want to.. I don't want to die."

"I don't know what drug you're on that managed to take even your optimism away," Jay said, "but trust me, you're not going to die here. "

The car pulled up on a wide space of gravel, with two other vehicles. The building was a huge space, and there seemed to be nothing around it. Onew hated that. He always would prefer a largely crowded city area.

Minho breathed a shaky, nervous breath and looked to Onew. "How do we do this?"

Onew was still for a moment, and then rolled his window down.

"What.. are you doing?" Minho asked, blinking.

"Fire." Onew said, looking at Minho. "There's a fire in there."

Minho widened his eyes, looking to the building and squinting. As dark as it was, it was hard to see if there was any smoke.

"Not just that," Onew said, "But it sounds like the hunters got here before us." Onew rolled his eyes, "Minho. You have to stay out here."

"What if something happens?"

"If anyone other than me, or some human, walks out of there first - you have to leave."

"Onew.." Minho frowned, "If something happens to you, it happens to me too."

"Do you have any idea how many things I've managed to run away from? Seriously? It's fine. I'm going to check it out.."

As Onew turned the car off and started to open the door though, Minho reached over, grabbing his arm. Onew paused, looking back at him. "What?"

"I won't wait and be scared any more. You have five minutes. Then I'll take the gun and come after you." Minho glanced toward the building, "In five minutes, I could go and look and see what's going on. If you can't come back and tell me in that time, you're in trouble. If you're in trouble, I won't run away."

Onew wrinkled his nose, opening the door for real this time. "Five minutes? I'll come back in three."

Minho nodded, a bit relieved to hear the confident words.

***

Onew edged through the cracked open large doors, but he might have been able to burst in without the vampires noticing. They were focused on the hunters they fought. Three of them, three humans (all in silver, like they'd robbed a jewelry store).

Behind them was the fire, running across the building like a wall. It was a fire that was made to be one, Onew was almost sure, and seeing that Taemin wasn't here he could only imagine that he was on the other side of it.

"It's Onew!" one of the vampire's said as he fought with a blond hunter, and Onew merely raised a brow at him, smirking amused when the hunter got a punch in thanks to the distraction.

Then, though, he had a new problem. That tall attitude hunter dropped at Taeyang's feet, and the vampire turned on him. "You're helping hunters."

"I'm here for Taemin. Keep the others." Onew glanced down at the fallen hunter, frowning. It wouldn't be easy to make Taemin leave them here. The idiots should have left this to him....

"Try saving him from The Council. You're not getting through me."

Onew glanced over his shoulder. If he walked out and was followed, Minho would be in trouble with Taeyang. He'd have to go through Taeyang, possibly two other vampires, and a wall of fire. Of course, he could just skip the first ones.

He scowled at Taeyang, ran, and jumped through flame. He was on the floor after the drop and roll manuever when he heard.

"Trust me, you're not going to die here."

Onew looked up, and one of those hunters was trying to untie Taemin from some pole. Taemin looked like shit, shuddering and coughing and pale. "Taemin!" Onew yelled to him.

Taemin looked over at him, and Onew saw the flash of fear, without knowing why. Taemin yelped and coughed more. Onew looked down to make sure he wasn't on fire.. and found he wasn't.

But, a second later, Taeyang was - and on top of him. The two rolled together, Onew growling and punching while Taeyang focused on holding him still.

Taemin's hands were free then. Jay helped pull him to his feet, and Taemin was confused and finding it hard to move. He looked at his arms, shocked that they'd come apart. "What's happening?"

Jay put his arms around Taemin, "It's okay, there's a way out. Come with me." But as the two had just started to move, Jiyong stepped into view. "Put him down, huh? So you can fight me."
