From this article, I, again, learn about negative transfer and how important learning target language’s culture while learning the language. There are four types of negative transfer: omission, addition, malformation, and disordering. Based on the explanation provided in the article, I can conclude that those types of negative transfer belong to interlingual error which is influenced by learners’ native language.

This article discusses about the use of films to teach culture and to minimize negative transfer errors in writing through dubbing activity. The data shows that it is effective to use films to help students learn the culture of a target language. Learners are able to learn by themselves about the similarities and differences between their own culture and that of the target language. They also can help to correct each other when they make mistakes in the dubbing activity. Basically, they become autonomous learners.

That is why, it is necessary to introduce EFL students to the English’s culture. Along with the teacher’s guidance, students will be able to learn by themselves about English in an easier and memorable way. There are many creative activities that teachers can implement in their class to attract students’ interest to learn English such as using films or videos to teach English’s culture. After all, the success of classroom activities depend on the class management.
