45 ! :D It's the first multi-character chapter. COMPROMISE. lawl I'm glad I'm done with these parts... wah...
-----------------------------------------------------------
Something horrible was happening. Minho paced around his dark bedroom, where he should be sleeping and was instead waiting and hoping for a knock at the window that he already knew wouldn't come.
It was more than a bad feeling, it was knowing. Knowing that there was pain and panic and terrible horrible desperation... knowing that Onew's life was in danger, and he was completely helpless to remedy that.
Why the hell didn't he get a cell phone number...
On one hand, he wanted to jump out of his window and rush to the hotel room. Even doubting that Onew would be there, it'd be something to do. On the other, something was shouting at him to stay and go to sleep.. yeah, right. As if he could sleep.
So he should compromise? Stay and worry?
He was starting to feel like running to his parents' room, crying to them, telling them everything and hoping they had some magical solution.
Which would be a really great way to end up in the mental hospital he originally thought Onew belonged in.
He was alone.
No, he realized. He had Taemin.
He didn't check to see how late it was, didn't care.
He snatched his cell phone and dialed, and shouted the moment that there was the slightest pause between rings. "Taemin!"
He listened then, and barely heard panicked breathing.
"Taemin?" he tried, more quietly this time. Then the connection was gone.
Whatever was wrong with Onew, Taemin of all people was involved. Taemin, who should never have even met Onew - who would never have even met Onew, if it wasn't for him. If something happened to him, it would be his responsibility.
Minho picked up his vampire library book and opened it up. It might not have the truth about vampires, but if it gave him some kind of idea of what he might possibly do, it was worth looking in.
He roughly turned the pages, glaring at each one and angry at every word that didn't strike something with him. Then, on page 23, he saw it. "Bonding".
"Once a vampire feeds from a human, that human will then be bonded to that vampire, and bend to his or her will."
Not exactly, Minho thought, but a close enough hint at the truth that he felt brave enough to accept some of this book's ideas. He flipped back, looking to start at the beginning.
***
Taemin's legs were so tired. He didn't know for sure that anyone had followed him, he hadn't looked to see. He'd run straight to the best place he could think of, the arcade, and needing to collect himself - he ended up collapsed in a bathroom stall.
Who were those people? Evil vampires? Was Onew in trouble? Was Onew just trying to make Taemin go away?
He reached for his phone, deciding to call Minho, only to find that it was ringing - or vibrating, rather. He didn't know why he hadn't noticed sooner. He quickly hit the talk button, but then heard someone stepping into the bathroom. Even as he heard Minho call his name, he was too scared to speak.
He listened, carefully, as someone walked in front of the stalls. He thought of saying something - shouting "arcade!" just so Minho would know where to find him if something happened, but he couldn't bring himself to make a noise.
Then, the stall's door jerked and he dropped the phone, hearing it crack against the floor.
"I know you're in there." said an exasperated voice, "Come on out."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Taemin said nervously.
"Yeah ya do." The rusty lock snapped and the door pretty much fell open. The shorter, spiky haired guy in front of him looked at him with an expression that made him feel like he was a child who had stolen a cookie.
"Get up."
"Are you a--"
A fangy scowl answered the question he was about to ask, "Get up!"
Even with the demand, Taemin wasn't given time to get up on his own. The vampire reached down and grabbed a fist full of bleached hair, forcing him with a cry to his feet.
"I'll scream, I'll scream, I'll scream!!!" Taemin warned, punching and flailing and apparently not caring if he lost some hair, the way he jerked to get his head free. So the vampire slammed his head against the back tiled wall, which made him go instantly limp.
The vampire pulled him tight against him, wiping where blood now dripped down his face with a finger. Taemin groaned, tears slipping as he began to lose conciousness.
The last words he heard before he blacked out were muttered, something that he thought was "Key is gonna hate you."
