Taemin had a million questions, so it was weird to him that Onew was interrupting with his own.

"Why were you dressed like vampire bait?"

"Like what? I just dressed how I always do.. and I think I'm going to miss my shoe, so if you find out that Jongie has it somewhere, it'd be great if you got it back for me."

"I'm not going to get you your shoe back!" Riding on Onew's back, Taemin didn't exactly see the scary vampire face that Onew was making, but he could tell he was making it by his voice. Vampires were getting a little predictable, he thought.

"Even if that's how you always dress, why were you out so late?"

"My mom is awake late." Taemin answered, "So I go out."

"That doesn't make any sense." Onew argued, and didn't wait for some explanation. "Stay indoors after dark!"

"Aw.. Noodle, you don't have to worry about me now. Since I know vampires are real and horrible... erm, except for you... I won't be defenseless like that any more. Say, you should tell me about weaknesses now, since Jongie and whosit might come after me."

"You have to worry about much more than them, now that you went and told doctors everything."

"But--"

"People who try to tell the world about vampires disappear."

"What... really?"

Onew cursed lowly, "There's no way you're not going to be targeted. You're young and cute."

"You think I'm cute?"

"That's not the point!"

"But there must be other good vampires like you that will help keep me safe." Taemin said, finally sounding nervous enough to satisfy Onew.

Instead of correcting Taemin, saying, "I'm not good." or "No one else is going to help you.", he said, quietly, "I'll try to protect you."

"You will?"

"Yes, so don't ever do something stupid like that again!"

Taemin laid his head down on Onew's shoulder, sighing softly, exhausted. "You didn't answer my question before."

"What?"

"How come those guys hate you?"

Onew was quiet, carrying Taemin along for a while. Taemin was considering asking him if he'd gone mute when he finally said, "Because they're assholes."

"It took you a long time just to tell me that they're assholes." Taemin laughed, though the sound was weak and tired. "Were you actually considering opening up to me? AHH!"

Onew suddenly dropped Taemin's legs and peeled his arms away from him. "Stay there." Onew demanded, and it was only as he was walking towards Minho's window that Taemin realized they'd made it back.

He watched Onew tap on the window from across the yard, and glanced back towards his own home. He wondered if his mom had worried about him at all, or if she'd ever even received the call from the hospital, or - Taemin felt rather horrified - if the hospital had even tried to call her, or just tried to call a bunch of scary vampires to come.. eat him up...

The sound of breaking glass called Taemin's attention away from his house. He watched Onew climb in Minho's now busted window with wide eyes.

"Minho is.."

"He's gone!" Onew told him, looking in a panic throughout the room. "Where the fuck could he be!?"

"N-noodle.. you'll wake his parents up."

Showing how much he didn't care if he woke Minho's parents up, he proceeded to pick up Minho's bed and flip it over.

Taemin moved away from the window, wondering why - after he was just nearly killed by vampires - he had it in him to be afraid of a parent's wrath. Then again, he liked Minho's mom a lot. She was nice. He didn't want her to have a bad opinion of him or...

Onew climbed back out of the window, grabbing Taemin's wrist. "They're awake. Come on."

"I told you- ahhh!!"

When Onew started to step towards Taemin's house, pulling him along, terrible pain surged through Taemin's injured arm and he collapsed to his knees with spotted vision.

Onew frowned. "Humans are so weak." he said to Taemin.

Taemin sobbed, suddenly crying. "It hurts so much..."

Onew scooped him into his arms. He had no time to attempt cheering up the kid even if he wanted to. The sun was going to rise soon, which pissed him off beyond words because Minho was God knows where, maybe even with Jonghyun and Key already, and he was going to be stuck in yet another stupid teenager's bedroom.

Taemin's house was quiet, though every light was on. Onew raised a brow when he spotted a woman passed out on the couch, limply clutching a bottle of soju.

"That's your mother?" Onew asked.

"Mmhmm." Taemin didn't look. He just assumed, nuzzling his cheek against Onew's chest tiredly.

Onew scowled at him, then stepped through the living room, looking with no direction from Taemin for the kid's bedroom. Not that it wasn't easy to spot. There was no bed to hide under, only a mattress in the floor with a pillow and blanket. There were posters and candles and lava lamps, and a whole bookshelf filled with things from "Harry Potter" to Anne Rice.

Fun. Onew had a window to block up.

He laid Taemin on the bed, or mattress anyway, and covered him up. He could smell fresh blood soaking one of his bandages, and growled at the thought of having to tend to a stupid kid's wounds all day instead of getting the rest he'd need to find Minho later.

"You're very lucky that Minho likes you." Onew told Taemin.

Taemin, who already looked asleep, softly replied "I know."
