【保育園の話】Slipping back in to society
Fall is rolling in at a snail's pace. Days are still hot but we've been able to turn off the air conditioner on some days and get by with opening the windows and running some fans. Sweet potato and pumpkin flavored items are filling stores and hot coffee and tea tastes delicious on a busy morning.

The family reunion that was supposed to take break over Obon Yasumi never happened. On the day we were meant to go, Ryu's mother called to tell us one of Ryu's older brothers and his family -- who were staying at the house-- had started coming down with fevers. とにかく大変なことばかり！Finally calming down a bit
The trip to the Embassy was brutal. Even by car, it took 2.5 hours each way. There was no parking, so Ryu's father ended up driving in circles after dropping us off. The Japanese staff outside were cold and unhelpful - obviously on some power trip. Ryu wondered if they were really Japanese. Reo turns two months in a week. He hasn't hit some milestones and I suspect something isn't quite right, but no doctor will diagnose for sure at only two months. It could all be paranoia though -- the internet can do that to you sometimes. I'm supposed to have a two-month home-visit from the city hall family center soon. 【新年】Welcome to the new year
あけましておめでとうごあいます。
Welcome to 2022, everyone. May this year be at least slightly better than the last.We didn't do anything special to celebrate new years. We relaxed in a warm scented bath, made Temaki-sushi and Miso soup for dinner, and then Ryu watched TV while I took a nap.
