"Kazuya..."
Blood...
There's so much blood...
"W-what happened?"
It was Kaoru who asked since no one else was willing to break the silence.
"Princess Meisa was the spellbound we were looking for." Ryo glanced at the dead girl. "She went crazy and stabbed Kazuya."
Jin was rooted to the spot. Kazuya had been hurt.
And he wasn't there to protect him.
Again.
"No! You're just playing around aren't you love?"
Kazuya was not answering.
"Don't do this to me Kazu. I came home, just like I promised. I'm here." At that point, he was already beside Kazuya but his hands were shaking so much as he embraced his lover. "I'm here, love."
Kazuya's eyes remained close.
He felt a bit of the dread fade away however when he felt Kazuya's pulse against his skin. It was faint but it was there.
"King Jin-" Tatsuya tried to touch him but he backed away, still holding Kazuya tightly.
"You should have protected him!"
"Don't yell at Tatsuya, King Jin. It isn't his fault," Ryo defended his lover.
"I did everything I can, King Jin. I love Kazuya just as much as you do and I would willingly give up my life for him or for any of my siblings. But everything happened so fast..." Tatsuya explained.
"Is he going to be okay?" Jin said in a much calmer voice. He knew he was being harsh on Tatsuya.
"I honestly don't know. The knife missed his heart and I already closed up his wound. His body would also heal by itself. But whether or not he would wake up is something I can't answer."
Jin looked at the face of the one man that meant the whole world to him. Kazuya looked so pale...
"We better go back inside. Kazu needs to rest." He carried Kazuya in his arms and began walking towards the palace's door. "Tomorrow, he'll wake up. He's just tired."
He knew they all thought he was in denial. He saw it on everyone's faces. But he was not in denial. He knew Kazuya was in a critical state. He knew there was a high probability that Kazuya may never wake up.
But you told me once that you won't leave me lonely. You will wake up, won't you love?
-----
Kazuya didn't wake up.
"Kazuya...open your eyes hmm? I miss you, love." Jin found it hard to speak through the sob that racked his body.
It's been 5 days and he was losing faith that Kazuya would ever wake up.
He missed hearing Kazuya's laughter and seing his smile. He missed the way Kazuya would use gestures along with his words when he was too excited. Heck, he even missed the way Kazuya calls him 'idiot'.
For 5 days, not once had he left his lover's side. He even had his meals delivered to him.
His parents had finally returned and he asked his father to take care of the kingdom since he had no desire to leave Kazuya's room.
"Father, I know I'm being incredibly selfish by asking this from you when its clear that the kingdom is my responsibility now but I...everytime he needs me, I was never there...I want that to change."
He wanted to be the first person Kazuya sees once he finally opens his wonderful brown eyes.
Thankfully, his father understood.
"From the moment you told us you wanted to marry Kazuya, your mother and I have already accepted that your first priority would always be him, not the kingdom and not even us. It's alright Son. He needs you."
Of course, not everyone was as understanding as Jin's parents. In fact, a lot of people had the opinion that Jin was only setting himself up for disappointment.
"That Whisperer is dying."
But no matter what anyone says, the fact that Kazuya was still breathing meant that he was fighting to be alive, to be with Jin.
And Jin wanted to hold Kazuya's hand through it all.
A knock drew his attention to the door. "Who is it?"
"Daddy? It's me Ami."
"Oh. Come in, Ami." He wiped his tears away.
When the girl came in the door, her dress dirty and her hair in disarray, Jin was suprised. "What happened?"
Ami appeared clueless as to what Jin meant until she looked down and saw the state she was in. She smiled sheepishly and walked until she was beside him. "Some kids were bad-mouthing Papa. Of course I couldn't let them get away with it."
No human except for Ryo had been there the night they found out Princess Meisa was the spellbound so when the princess' body was buried the next day, rumors started.
The worst of all those rumors was that Kazuya had let the princess be killed because he hated her.
Jin hugged his daughter. "I should probably scold you for being in a fight but I know you meant well. Just don't do it again. Your Papa would be upset when he wakes up and finds out his daughter became a delinquent."
Ami turned to her Papa and reached out for his hand. "Don't worry Papa, I won't be a delinquent. But I'll protect you. I won't let them talk bad about you. They d-don't understand. You're so good to us and they have no right to say those things. Papa, I won't let them hurt you again so please come back to us." She muffled her cry on the bed sheet.
It broke Jin's heart to see Ami so distraught but just like her, he could do nothing but wait.

"Tat-chan?"
Tatsuya saw Ryo approaching. He had been staying in Ryo's mansion since the battle had ended.
"What would it take for you to smile again? I hate seeing you like this, Tat-chan."
He took Ryo's hand. "I know it's unfair for you to be burdened with my problems. I'm really sorry. It's just...I can't be happy when I know Kazuya is yet to wake up. It hurts that I've finally been reunited with my brothers only to have this happen."
"You will never be a burden to me, Tatsuya. I'm just worried cause you've been really down these days. Here, how about you open this?"
Tatsuya received the letter Ryo gave him with a baffled expression on his face. "What is this?"
"Something to cheer you up."
He opened the envelope and a small paper slid out.
"He is awake!" - Jin
"Is this...Is this true?"
There was no mistaking that the 'he' in the letter was Kazuya.
"Complete with the royal seal," Ryo confirmed. "The carriage is already waiting outside."
"No need for that. Flying would be faster."
He transformed into his true form and in one fast movement, grabbed Ryo's waist (which made Ryo scream) before flying towards the palace.
"Tat-chan, I'll say this with all the love in my heart. You're freaking scary!"
"You love me just the same."
"Agreed."
When they arrived in the palace, in Kazuya's room, they saw Kazuya sitting up.
Not far from him was Jin who surprisingly had a dejected look on his face.
"Nii-chan!" Kazuya smiled.
He rushed to Kazuya's side and hugged him. "I'm glad you're awake."
"I can't believe this! Enough with the jokes, love," Jin whined.
Kazuya frowned. "Don't call me that! I don't know you!"
Wait, what? He doesn't know Jin? "Kazuya, what are you saying?"
"He doesn't...remember me..." Jin paled. "He wasn't... joking. He really doesn't remember me..."

to be continued...

The dramaaaaa~ But don't worry, Kazuya's memory loss is not entirely bad. In fact, it may produce some interesting events ;)
Again, I'm sorry I have not updated earlier.
