WENN last we met: Jeb Cain turned to look in the direction the guard indicated and blinked when he realized that the princess and his father were staring at him. They both smiled and gave him a dumb wave.
Eagle-eye bit back another laugh as Jeb grumbled and shook his head, before walking toward the sign.

"I think that guard sees us," DG said with a frown. Cain glanced down to her and then looked back up to the two men standing with Jeb.

"Well, it would stand to reason, Princess, that they'll both see us if Jeb does." DG rolled her eyes and looked back to the guard. If she could get him to get Jeb's attention... As soon as she saw him glance their way again, she gave him a slight two-finger salute and pointed to Jeb. Noticing the man blink once - not realizing that he'd just realized who she was - she pointed to him, then Jeb, then the guard on the right. Pausing for a second, she pointed back to Jeb.

They both saw the guard say something to Jeb, who turned toward him, then toward them. "Wave," DG said quietly, not sure how to take the look on Jeb's face as he realized it was them. They both saw Jeb shake his head and start toward them, holding a hand up to the other guard as the man moved to follow him.

Cain backed away from the sign slightly, giving DG room to stand, and shifted to pull the bag off his arm and set it on the ground. Looking up to Jeb, both of them stood still as the younger Cain moved toward them with a rather stoic expression. "This should be fun," DG said with a smirk. Jeb stopped about two feet from them eyed them both - specifically his father's clothes - before letting out a deep sigh.

"Your highness. Father," he stated, giving each of them a nod.

Cain rolled his eyes and DG averted her eyes. She could play this game. Taking a deep breath, DG glanced back to Jeb and put on her Princess-face. "Forgive me, Mister Cain, but I'm not aware of your current salutation."

He nodded slightly to DG and replied: "I am Head of the royal family's personal guard." DG gave him a bright smile and shot an impressed look to Cain, who returned the expression.

"Congratulations," she stated with another nod. Jeb's eyes moved again to his father and the clothes he was wearing. Crossing his arms, Jeb swallowed and raised an eyebrow. DG had to fight a snort as he looked exactly like Cain when doing it. She glanced to Cain again and, seeing that he was not amused, she breathed a laugh and turned back to Jeb. "It's very good to see you," she said, giving him another nod.

"And you," Jeb replied, also with a nod. "So... what brings you to the notice board, today?" DG blinked and glanced at the board - she hadn't noticed what was tacked up due to her interest in the guards at the gate. She actually leaned closer to it when she spotted a flyer with DeMilo's name, but quickly shook her head and returned to the matter at hand.

"We're here to surprise my sister for her birthday. Would you please sneak us inside?"

Jeb raised an eyebrow and turned to look at the two guards. "Well, I don't know. We'll have to check your background, make sure your papers are in order..." He couldn't even finish the sentence without laughing. Cain shook his head and reached for Jeb, pulling his son into a bear hug.

"It's good to see you," Cain said, slapping Jeb on the back.

"You, too," Jeb replied. Cain pulled back and Jeb glanced at DG. "There are five people in there who will be very happy to see you," he stated, nodding toward the gate. DG smiled and gave Jeb a nod of thanks. "C'mon," he said, waving them along.

Cain picked up his backpack and shouldered it, taking a few extra steps to catch up to Jeb and DG. "Should I be bothered that it's this easy to bribe your way into the city?" DG asked Cain, loud enough for Jeb to hear.

"Just goes to show this place is goin' downhill. They'll let anyone in," Cain said with a smirk.

Jeb threw a dirty look over his shoulder and waved to Cain. "Did you lose a bet?" DG didn't fight the snort and Cain pointed at her menacingly. The two of them proceeded to make faces at each other until they reached the two guards. Polite nods were given by all and Jeb directed Cain and DG into the truck just inside the gate.

"You'll have to find Raw," DG stated as they drove back toward the palace. "If we get too close, he'll know we're here."

"We'll stop near the rear entrance," Jeb told them as he maneuvered the vehicle through the streets of Central City.

"I need some place with an oven, too," DG said with a nod. Cain gave her a look which she ignored and Jeb nodded.

"We'll put you up in the stablehand's quarters for the time being. I'll bring Raw to you." Jeb threw another glance into the mirror and turned to glance once his shoulder. "Really, did someone pay you to wear that?" DG laughed and shook her head as Cain glared at her.

"They are called jeans, son. And they're rather comfortable." Jeb shook his head and focused on the road again while Cain shot a look to DG. 'You look fine,' she mouthed and glanced out the window. Cain glanced down at the shirt and jacket and wondered if DG was just trying to make him feel better.

Since it was a special occasion, Cain figured he best dress appropriately. The only problem was that the nicest things he had were the blue jacket from DG and the black jacket from Simon. As they were hiking up the mountain, Cain would have rather worn the brown jacket Emily had found for him, but he didn't think rolling the blue jacket up and shoving it into his bag was the best thing to do.

Jeb brought the truck to a stop and nodded to DG before pushing his door open. DG reached for her bag with one hand and the door handle with the other, but Jeb was already on the other side of the door, pulling it open. "Well, thank you," she said with a smile. "Teach him how to do that," she said with a smirk, nodding toward Cain.

"Shut up," Cain responded, garnering a raised eyebrow from Jeb. DG turned and stuck her tongue out at Cain then rolled her eyes as she faced Jeb again. Jeb held up a hand, motioning for DG to head into the building in front of them. DG stepped inside the open door and smiled - it looked like a cabin in the woods, only not in the woods. Or a cabin.

She moved though the open area toward the far wall, where she spotted a large stove and some cupboards. "Perfect," she stated, pulling her bag off her shoulder and setting it on the table. "Wait, we're not-" she started, looking up to Jeb with concern.

Shaking his head, Jeb cut her off: "We use this as a temporary quarters, shift change if there's something to pass on to a group of the guards at one time." Cain set his bag down on the floor next to a large writing desk and nodded his approval. "I'll go find Raw for you, Princess," Jeb said, giving her a nod. He shot another look to Cain, who stepped over and held out his hand.

"I'm proud of you, son." Jeb took his father's hand and nodded again. He threw another glance over his shoulder as DG unzipped her bag and then moved toward the door. Cain watched Jeb leave, staring after him for a moment before the sound of clanging metal caught his attention. He turned to see DG pulling a lid off of one of the pans Cain knew Jeanie kept in the shop.

"What are you doing, Kiddo?" he asked, moving over to the table as DG pulled two containers from inside the pan. DG held up a short screw-top container and a small bottle and smiled.

"I'm making my sister a birthday cake." She set the two containers down and stepped back, moving to the cupboard in search of a bowl and a spoon. Cain picked up the smaller container and looked through the clear plastic.

"What is this?"

"Those are the dry ingredients," DG said, pointing to the container with a spoon. "The other is the liquid. And, the piece of paper," she said, nodding to the notepaper next to the cake pan. "Is the instructions from Missus Ell for baking the cake in that kind of oven," she said, nodding to the oven behind her as she returned to the table with a bowl.

As she removed the lid from the flour mix and dumped it into the bowl, Cain picked up the bottle, crossed his arms and leaned against the table. "I'm pretty sure things haven't changed around here so much that the kitchen staff can't handle a cake," Cain said with a furrowed brow. DG made a face and held her hand out for the bottle.

Cain made another face and leaned away slightly so that the bottle was just out of reach. DG frowned and poked him in the chest and pointed. "Keep it up, I'll tell Jeb he's been replaced." Cain feigned shock and handed the bottle over with a laugh. DG frowned again and waved toward the desk. "Go... study." Cain made a face and pushed off the table, but he didn't leave. Instead, he moved around to DG's other side and reached for her bag, peeking into the open pocket. How had he missed the cake pan when he'd been digging for the sandwich?

Pulling out a pack of crackers - Jeanie must have thought they were incapable of fending for themselves - and one of the bottles of water, Cain nodded to DG and moved away to find a glass. DG shook her head and went back to stirring the cake batter. A moment later, she realized that she'd forgotten to turn on the oven. Luckily, Cain had noticed her blank stare at the appliance and he abandoned his water and crackers and reached for one of the matches sitting next to the stovetop.

_______
I know that Cain climbing a mountain in the blue jacket would probably get some looks from the other hikers... and not the drooling kind.
Just pretend they didn't see anybody :p
