Unexpected Jeb moved through the hallways of the palace, nodding to guards and trying to put his emotions in check. He was rather happy to see his father and the princess, and he knew that the family would be ecstatic, but he also knew that the Viewer would be able to read the waves off him before he even opened the door.
Hoping that Raw would be distracted upon his arrival, Jeb knocked on the door frame of Glitch's lab. "Ambrose?" he asked, not wanting to startle the man. Realizing that he hadn't heard, Jeb stepped into the lab and raised his voice slightly. "Ambrose? ...Glitch!" he finally called, a bit louder.
Glitch's head popped up and he turned around to see Jeb standing behind him. "Ah, Mister Cain, what can I do for you?" Jeb nodded and glanced around the lab.
"I'm looking for Raw, actually." Glitch turned and looked around the lab himself, then back to Jeb with a shrug.
"He said something about a disturbance in the force, or something," Glitch stated, glancing back to the project in front of him. Jeb smiled at the phrase, knowing Glitch had probably picked it up from DG. "He may be in his room." Nodding, Jeb left Glitch to his work and left the lab.
"You won't forget dinner?" Jeb asked, sticking his head back into the door. Glitch glanced over his shoulder, nodded and turned back to his desk. Jeb smirked and made a note to have one of the guards stop by later to check on him.
Jeb stopped outside Raw's quarters and knocked lightly. Not hearing a response, Jeb reached for the handle and carefully opened the door. Raw wasn't known for bounding to the door when he had visitors, but he also wasn't about to yell for someone to enter.
Jeb spotted the Viewer sitting in the middle of his room, on the floor, with his back to the door. "Jeb needs Raw," Jeb heard. Smiling slightly, Jeb took a single step into the room and held his hands behind his back.
"Ambrose says you weren't feeling well earlier?" he stated quietly. Raw took a deep breath and turned his upper body toward Jeb.
"Glitch worries." Jeb smiled again and nodded as Raw pushed himself up from the floor.
"That's what friends are for," Jeb stated as Raw neared. He truly enjoyed the Viewer's company. They could sit for hours, not saying a word, and understand each other perfectly. Raw would also sit with Jeb, late at night, as he planned an event or worked out a potential security issue, not saying a word, but simply acting as a sounding board.
Jeb didn't think that Raw got enough credit for everything he put up with on a daily basis, but he hoped the Viewer could tell how much he appreciated the effort.
"Raw is ready," he said simply. Jeb had to admit that Raw's language had improved greatly from the first time they’d met; a fact he'd attributed to DG's influence. Jeb nodded and took a step back, allowing Raw to exit the room first. As they walked down the hallway, Jeb glanced at his friend.
"How are you feeling?" He knew that Raw was far too stubborn to admit that he wasn't at full-strength.
Raw nodded and rested a hand on Jeb's shoulder. "Raw fine. Azkadellia had bad night." Jeb gave Raw an understanding glance and continued to lead him downstairs. They didn't discuss anything Zone-related as they walked; actually, they reminisced about the event in the Central City Square a few days prior.
"One of these days, my friend, we'll have you dancing in the middle of a crowd, in the arms of a beautiful woman," Jeb said as he pushed open the door to the small building. Raw was used to visits to the small structure, as he would occasionally assist the guards by reading visiting dignitaries and attending planning sessions. It was also a place he could go to when the noise of the palace became too much.
Raw gave Jeb a look and followed him through the door. His gaze moved straight to the desk, where Cain was closing the book he was reading and standing up. Raw cocked his head slightly and wondered how he hadn't sensed Cain. Ignoring the confusion, Raw moved swiftly toward Cain and, meeting halfway, they pulled each other into a bear hug.
He pulled back, trying to read Cain, but was distracted when two things happened: Cain's eyes darted to DG for a split second, then back to Raw, as a smile started to creep up his face; and Raw was hit with a flood of emotion that he knew all too well. If emotion had a smell or a color or a sound, he would know DG's anywhere.
Cain took Raw's shoulders and turned him around to face DG, who was trying very hard not to cry. She'd known she missed her friends and family, but she didn't realize how much until Jeb opened the door with Raw close behind. Raw pulled away from Cain and moved across the space toward her, stopping just out of reach.
She didn't know why, but DG actually feared he wouldn't be happy to see her. Raw reached up and let his fingertips pass lightly over DG's cheek; her eyes closed and she willed herself not to cry. Raw waited just a moment before taking the last step and pulling DG into his arms. Cain and Jeb shared a glance and Jeb motioned to a door on the opposite wall.
As Cain and Jeb left Raw and DG alone in the kitchen, DG whispered into Raw’s ear: "I'm so sorry."
Raw pulled back and smoothed her hair, letting his hand stay on her cheek. "DG did nothing to apologize for." She gave him a guilty smile and they hugged again. A few moments later, Raw pulled back again and searched DG’s eyes with a frown. "DG not stay," he stated.
DG closed her eyes and let her head droop. "But DG will return." She looked up to Raw, who offered her a kind smile and she nodded.
_______
Yeah... so Jeb and Raw have totally gone Jack and Teal'c in my mind. Only without the Jell-O wrestling and unrestrainedundomesticated equines.
Well... maybe the unrestrainedundomesticated equines.
I don't argue with Jeb or Raw. Nor should you.
