Cain moved a hand up to cover his mouth as he woke up with a deep yawn. He squinted at the amount of light pouring in from the windows and glanced down to the floor, where his notebook was sitting at an odd angle. 'Must've nodded off,' he thought, reaching for the book as he sat up.

He made a note to tell DG that her couch was much more comfortable than this thing - of course, it was probably not designed for sleeping. Royals would never nap, he figured. He had found, though - while not a napper - he did enjoy the occasional mid-day 'rest' of his eyes.

Yawning again, Cain glanced over his shoulder to where his head had just been and he frowned. He wasn't sure what, but Wyatt Cain knew he'd forgotten something. Looking at the page of notes for a moment, he fought another yawn and reached for his textbook before standing up.

Next time he potentially fell asleep studying, he should have a blanket handy. The castle was drafty and, if he was chilly, DG must've been- Cain's eyes went wide and he nearly dropped both of the books as everything came rushing back, rather quickly: DG stopping to apologize, his apology, football teams and music.

She'd fallen asleep and he'd fought it. Cain knew he'd read the one page at least a dozen times... but sleep finally won. He didn't even flinch when DG curled against him - Hell, he'd put an arm around her, holding her close. His brain didn't even register that it was wrong - especially in the Zone - only that it was DG and he'd wondered what it would be like to hold her like that.

Ever since the dance, he simply wanted to hold her close. Him: the guy who didn't do hugs, wanted nothing more than to hug her. Cain told himself that night that it was just an innocent hug - he'd survive the night. If DG even knew, she'd probably think he was thinking of Adora. He'd found that the more he tried not to think about it, the more he did. And the more he tried to convince himself it was Adora in his mind, he knew it wasn't true.

He knew it was DG. He wanted it to be DG.

And now he'd done it a second time. At some point in the early morning, he'd shifted - sleeping while sitting upright was uncomfortable - and moved to lie down on the couch. As his arm was still around DG, he just sort of pulled her along.

He needed to talk to Simon. Simon would slap some sense into him.

Cain was confused when he couldn't find anyone in the usual places. He finally happened across Azkadellia and the Queen in the dining room. "Good morning," he said, giving each of them a nod. Az looked up from her plate and raised an eyebrow at his attire - she'd been told Wyatt Cain was boycotting the tan pants, yet here he was: dressed as she'd first met him.

Right down to the duster.

"You'll never catch her if you just stand there," she said, returning her glance to the table.

"I'm sorry?" Cain asked with a frown.

Az pointed to one of the windows but didn't look up. "She just left. Headed for the fields."

"Left?" Cain practically shouted. Az and the Queen both looked at him then shrugged to each other. Cain threw a glance toward the window and turned quickly. He hurried through the hallways for the front door and didn't even acknowledge Glitch, who was trying to get his attention.

"Hey, Cain! Why are you here?" he yelled after Cain.

Cain got outside the palace and scanned the field for DG. This was not good. She was really going to leave him there? After everything? Didn't he have a say?

'Maybe you are to blame,' he thought. DG didn't need a grumpy old man to take care of. She should have a life. He was holding her back. Why didn't she tell him? Why just leave? It’s not like he couldn't be an adult and take the rejection. But he couldn't take the rejection. Of course, as he'd done nothing for her to reject...

He was a headcase. With his brain intact.

Scanning the tall grasses again, he spotted DG moving away from him. "DG!" he yelled and started running. "DG!" She finally turned and gave him the same look Az had.

"What?" she asked with a look of confusion.

"You're leaving?" he asked angrily. DG shook her head and frowned. Pointing over her shoulder, she continued to shake her head.

"I don't... What?"

"You're just going? Like that? Not even a 'Hey, I wanna go back.' You're just gonna leave me here?" DG shook her head but Cain didn’t notice. "Why?"

"'Why' what?" she asked, still confused. Cain grabbed her arms.

"Why are you leaving?" DG shrugged out of his grip and stepped back, looking at him as if he was crazy.

"Wow," she said simply and forced a laugh. She stepped away and rubbed at her forehead before throwing a look to Cain. "What? Was there a bet? 'How long before she runs again?' Damnit, Cain... How could you serious-" She took a few deep breaths and turned away. "So, now we know the truth: No one trusts DG; she'll just run. God, Cain... after everything-"

Cain frowned. "But Az said you..." He was so confused. Az said he wouldn't catch her. She thought he was going with DG, wherever she was headed. And his first thought was that DG was running.

What the Hell was wrong with him?

He'd just screwed everything up. Why didn't he have any faith in DG? He didn't deserve her - she was far too good and he was a fool. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. It wouldn't help, but it needed to be said.

"How can you think I'd do that? Leave you here? Four days before your test!" She gave him a laugh. "What was your grand plan? Drag me back inside and lock me in my room?” she asked, pushing past him, deciding to head back to the palace.

Cain's hand shot out and grabbed her arm, jerking her back toward him and he pulled her close, pressing a hard kiss to her lips. What would it hurt at this point? It wasn't like she was ever going to speak to him again. He finally pulled back when he needed fresh oxygen and said nothing to her as he let go and stepped back.

DG blinked a few times and huffed, trying to refocus. Cain never took his eyes off her. Oddly, he didn't see her hand come up to slap him until it made contact with his cheek.

"Cain!" Cain gasped for air and bolted up. It took him a few seconds to realize he was sitting on the couch in the study, Glitch leaning over him. Cain moved his hand to his cheek as Glitch straightened and motioned to the couch.

"If you don't like your room, we can find you another one."
