Chapter 29
"What time is it?" Ryo asked when they walked out from the restaurant hours later, they had ended up staying there working on Ueda's "homework" after finishing their lunch, including desert.
"Almost 5pm" Ueda answered checking the time on his cell phone.
"That late already?" Ryo said quite stunned and stopped walking.
"Yup" Ueda smiled turning around to face his boyfriend pulling out his phone again and raising it in front of his face. "Give me a smile"
"Huh?" Ryo asked blinking a few times before he understood what was going on. "Stop it, don't take photos of me just like that" He lifted his hands in front of his face to hide himself.
"Why not?" Ueda asked before he pressed the camera button and took a picture of his boyfriend. "I want a picture of you in front of this place. After all it is of big importance in our relationship right? Now down with your hands and give me that smile of yours that you're famous for"
"Only if I get to take a picture of you after" Ryo said lowering his hands slowly.
"Of course" Ueda smiled back and prepared the camera to take a new picture. Ryo put his hands down in his pockets before he flashed a bright smile towards the other but just as Ueda was to take the picture something attacked him and he fell down on the ground very ungracefully.
"What the-" Ryo growled as he looked around for the attacker only to see that what should be what attacked him was now were getting the attention of a laughing Ueda.
"Oh, how cute" Ueda cooed as he kneeled down and patted the attacker, a small black adorable dog with a lot of energy.
"He attacked me" Ryo muttered getting up but Ueda paid no attention to him.
"What's your name cutie?" Ueda said lifting the dog up as it licked his face mercilessly. "Where did you come from? Are you lost?"
"Stop asking stupid questions like that" Ryo huffed and earned himself a glare from Ueda. "I mean it's not like it can actually give you any answers back"
"We should try and find its owner" Ueda said ignoring Ryo's last comment still holding the dog in his arms, holding it close to his body. "Maybe the restaurant owners know who it is"
Ryo just shrugged but followed after when Ueda started to walk back into the restaurant.

It turned out the dog was owned by an elderly lady just a few houses down the road, and apparently the dog often ran away to explore the surroundings. And since the owner just lived close by they decided to return the cute little dog. Ueda were still holding the dog in his arms, hugging it tightly while it was waging its tail happily and licking his holders face. Ueda were too busy playing with the dog that he completely missed the glares that was thrown from Ryo towards the dog. Anybody could tell that Ryo was annoyed, no, more like jealous over the attention Ueda was not giving him but the dog.
"Come on" Ryo said annoyed as they started to walk towards the house. "Hurry up so that we can give back that thing"
"It's not a thing" Ueda replied but quickened his pace getting up next to Ryo "Don't you think this is the cutest thing you've ever seen?"
"No, I've seen a lot of cuter things" Ryo replied shooting another glare at the dog. Ueda ignored the harsh comment and just continued cuddling with the dog.

They soon ended up in front of the blue house in which they had been instructed the owner lived. It was a nice house that really gave you a homey feeling what with all the flowers and bushes and trees filling up the small garden that came with the house. Ryo opened the gate slowly, it made a soft creaking sound and then he let Ueda pass before he walked in himself. They walked a few steps inside the garden but stopped when they noticed, what they assumed to be the dog's owner, plotting in a flower bed.
"Excuse me?" Ryo said to get her attention and the lady turned to face them.
"Can I help you with something?" she asked getting up while brushing the dirt of her apron before she noticed the dog in Ueda's embrace. "Oh, you found Mai-chan!"
"Yes Mrs or more like she found us actually" Ueda replied with a smile as he let the dog down on the ground and it happily ran over to the lady. "She's really friendly"
"That she is that she is" the lady smiled back kneeling down and patting her beloved dog. "Did you have fun Mai-chan? You're lucky you met these two handsome young men, ne?"
Both Ryo and Ueda blushed slightly at the lady's last comment and glanced over at each other's before looking back at the dog and the lady.
"So, how could I thank you for bringing this little mischievous girl back?" the lady then asked getting back up and smiled brightly at them. Ueda couldn't help but think that she looked really pretty for someone over the age of 70; she must've been popular when she was younger.
"There really is no need for that" Ryo said taking a hold of Ueda's elbow.
"But I should give you something for your inconvenience" she said making her way towards the front door of the house. "How about I get you some of my homemade cookies? I'll be back in just a moment, please play with Mai-chan"

"Come here Mai-chan!" Ueda said kneeling down on the ground trying to get the attention from the dog now playing around in the flowerbeds chasing a butterfly. Very uncharacteristic for a dog, isn't that more of a dog behavior? "Come here Mai-chan!" the dog ignored Ueda completely and that made a big smirk appear on Ryo's face.
"Just give up" Ryo said kneeling down next to Ueda and put a hand on his shoulder. "She obviously doesn't like you anymore and have moved on. You should do the same"
"You sound like you're talking about a girl that's dumped me and not a dog" Ueda commented turning to face Ryo with a amused smile.
"Well the dog is a girl" Ryo smirked "and she kind of did dump you as soon as you let her go, what with playing around and totally ignoring you"
"But you forget something very important here" Ueda smirked back leaning in just a bit closer to Ryo, their lips almost brushing against each others. "I have a boyfriend, and there is no chance that I would be unfaithful, and most definitely not with a dog even though most dogs are both friendlier and prettier than him"
"Hey!" Ryo said sounding a bit offended pulling back slightly almost falling backwards down on his butt and into a small bush. "I'm both friendly and pretty!"
"Of course you are" Ueda said grabbing a hold of Ryo's wrist to pull him back into balance but his pull was to strong. Ryo ended up falling forward unto Ueda and pinning him down to the ground their lips once again almost brushing against each others. They stared into each other's eyes and for a moment they got lost in each other but got interrupted when they heard the front door open again.
"I hope you like chocolate cookies" the lady said walking down the few steps that lead up to the door with a big jar filled up to the top with cookies. Ryo quickly jumped up to his feet stumbling slightly backwards, Ueda quickly followed his example and turned towards the lady with a smile.
"Chocolates are the best, right Ryo?" he commented glancing over at Ryo who was brushing of his clothes and trying to ignore Mai-chan who had now found an interest in the shorter man.
"Yes" Ryo nodded and sent a forced smile their way trying not to show how annoyed he was over the dog.
"I am glad to hear that" the lady smiled and handed Ueda the jar. "And once again thanks for bringing my little baby back"
"No problem at all" Ueda replied looking over at Ryo and the dog. "Well I guess we should go now. Bye"
"Bye" she said kneeling down and cooing Mai-chan over and succeeding straight away.
"Come, let's go Ryo" Ueda smiled hooking his free arm with Ryo who gladly complied and they left the lady and her dog playing in the garden.

They walked their ways back to the hotel arms still hooked and smiles on their lips as they talked, teased and laughed with each other under the slowly setting sun. When they reached the hotel they ran into beaming Tegoshi and Masuda by the door.
"Where did you two run of too?" Tegoshi asked tilting his head cutely to his left eyeing the couple in front of him.
"And what is that?" Masuda added pointing at the jar in Ueda's embrace. "Are that chocolate cookies? Where did you get them? They look really yummy"
"Ah, you mean these?" Ueda said looking down at the jar and then back at Masuda with a smile "It was a thank you present given to us for bring a dog back to its owner. Do you want some?"
"Yes please" Masuda beamed clapping his hands in excitement just like a little kid.
"Stop acting like a giant baby" Ryo snorted as Ueda unhooked their arms to open the jar but his comment went unnoticed, or just simply ignored by the rest.
"Do you want some too Tegoshi-kun?" Ueda asked as he managed to open the jar and held it out for Masuda to dive his hand into it and fish up some cookies.
"Thanks, you're so nice" Tegoshi smiled and reached out for the cookies. "I can totally understand why Ryo like to be with you."
Ueda froze for a moment as Tegoshi's last comment sunk into him. Did Tegoshi mean that in that or that way? That being Ryo liking him as friends and the other way was Ryo liking him as more than a friend. Had he also figured it out by now? He blinked a few times before he smiled back at Tegoshi and blushed slightly praying to god no one noticed it but when he glanced over at Ryo he could tell his prays was not being heard.
"So, where are you two heading?" Ryo asked as he too let his hand dive into the cookie jar.
"Oh, these are really yummy" Tegoshi commented before he answered. "We was on our way out to buy some ice cream and then head to meet up with Taguchi-kun and Shige in the arcade"
"Can I have some more?" Masuda asked giving Ueda a hopeful look that was received with nod and a smile from the older one. Ueda held out the jar again and Masuda he dived right into it again.
"Ah well, have fun then" Ryo said grabbing Ueda's arm to drag him inside causing Masuda had to quickly retrieve his arm. Ueda smiled apologetic at the smiling Tegoshi and Masuda as Ryo opened the door and got them both inside the building.
