#412 - vitallani - Standard Rex Rabbit

As my choice, I have gone for the Standard Rex Rabbit.

Rabbits are my favourite animal, and I feel that I have a special connection with them. When I was eight, I fell in love with a black baby rabbit at a farm, and he became part of our family for over eleven years. He was a great friend and companion, and I loved him beyond all doubt. It was very sad when he passed away, but his presence will be there with me forever. I think he strongly influenced my ability to connect with rabbits and understand their nature well.

There are a lot of qualities that I share with rabbits. First, rabbits are active creatures; they love to frolic and run around. As much as they love to have fun, they are prey animals, so are very vigilant and always on the look out. I’m always on the move, and wish I could have fun all the time, but I am quite worrisome and always on the lookout. I never let my guard down. Also, just like rabbits, I am most active at dusk and dawn. The early morning is when I do my morning exercise, and the evening is when I have my meal. Although I am not a vegetarian, as rabbits obviously are; I much prefer fruit, vegetables and wheat to meat.

Rabbits are hard working as well though; they spend a lot of time tunneling and building warrens, which is the perfect kind of home for me, because it is dark, and I don’t like bright light.

Although I am not very sociable, I do live with my family and am close to them; rabbits live in family units, so like me they won’t fly the nest when they grow older. And While I do not like socializing, I do like cuddles. The Standard Rex Rabbit is a popular pet, so would get petted a lot. My mum’s favourite animal is also a rabbit, and she always said that if her dad reincarnated as an animal, it would be a rabbit so that she could look after him. I’m sure it would be the same with me; I would enjoy being petted by her as a rabbit. It would be very relaxing.

Some of the traits and abilities I wanted my animagus to have was the ability to hide and camouflage myself as a way to stay safe or just get away from people. I also wanted sharp claws and teeth so I could fight back or just show people that I’m in a bad mood and not to be messed with. Rabbits have all of these aspects and therefore the Standard Rex Rabbit makes the perfect animagus for me.

#413 - cheapxdate - Ragdoll

I’m excited to have chosen the Ragdoll cat as my animagus form for many reasons. I really wanted to choose a form that reflected my personality and likes, so this was a great choice.

First of all, I’ve loved cats my entire life - whether it was real cats, cartoon cats or stuffed animal cats. When I was little, I used to cut out little, paper triangles and staple them to my headbands like ears and crawl around on my hands and knees. When I was 10, my grandma took me to see Cats on Broadway and I was obsessed. She even made me a cat Halloween costume that year based off the costumes wore by the performers. Needless to say, I pranced around in that more than one day. I’ve always had this connections to cats. For my 9th birthday, my parents (after much begging and pining), got my a kitten. I named him Oliver (after the cat from the Disney movie Oliver and Company). He was my best friend and close companion for 13 years. Sadly, he passed last November (20th, almost exactly a year ago) and in a way, choosing a cat as my animagus form is in his memory - the very best cat anyone could ever ask for. J

The Ragdoll cat is a particularly awesome choice because of our likeness in characteristics. Ragdolls are described as affectionate, intelligent easygoing and gentle. I’m a huge affection-craver, especially in romantic relationships and do consider myself to be intelligent. While I am outgoing, I’m not very aggressive. I’m very ‘go with the flow’ and even a bit lackadaisical, which is reflected in the easygoing nature of the Ragdoll cat. They possess a non-fighting instinct which means they don't like confrontation (hello, self!). They love attention and, well, I'm a self-proclaimed attention whore. Also, like me, Ragdoll cats have distinct blue eyes.

Generally, cats are curious, active creatures who enjoy both social interaction and solitude. I think this fits great with my personality. I really do love being around people, but I certainly appreciate alone time. I perceive cats to be pretty snaky too, something my personality is certainly not missing.

All in all, I’d love to make the Ragdoll cat my animagus form and join HiH Wilderness!

#414 - alex_parker - Samoyed

I have chosen the Samoyed as my animagus form. Firstly, I have always been extremely connected to dogs in general, and this particular dog is a wonderful choice for me. Samoyeds are strong and sturdy working dogs, bred to pull sleds and herd reindeer. I wrote that I wanted to be strong, fast, or both-- the samoyed is both. They are built for cold weather, and I much prefer the cold over the heat. In fact, their thick coats make them ill-suited for Samoyeds are friendly and rarely aggressive, which describes me as well. I have worked and volunteered with children throughout my life. These dogs are described as great companions for children.

In terms of appearance, they have white fur and that matches up with me having extremely pale skin. Samoyeds have a characteristic facial expression that resembles a smile. They are exuberant jumpers with a lot of energy. As one of the people who suggested the form said, these things really expresses my enthusiastic attitude. Samoyeds need firm training because they can be very obstinate without a clear leader. I can be a fairly stubborn person. Being sled dogs as well as herders, samoyeds work well with others, both as part of a large pack pulling a sled, and as a one-on-one team with a handler as a herder. I feel like this dog is a great match for many qualities I have, and it really hits a lot of the things I wanted as a form.

#415 - icewindfirex - Arctic Wolf

I’ve selected the Arctic Wolf out of my four choices. I am a previous member of Hogwarts is Home, and I was previously selected as the Arctic Wolf. I decided to apply again because all though I loved my former animagus form, I wasn’t sure if I had changed and my animagus form would likewise change. I know I certainly answered the questions pretty differently this go around. However, the people of Hogwarts is Home seem to think I haven’t changed much at all! At least in animagus form, that is.

I’ve always loved and felt a connection for the arctic wolf. This is not only because it’s entirely white, like my super pale skin! I don’t love the cold as much as my animagus form does, but I absolutely adore the snow. I can stand the cold if I have a thick coat - which I will, as an arctic wolf with all that thick fur.

Arctic Wolves are strong because they are one of the few mammals that can withstand the arctic weather. I value strength most of all, and I think I am quite a strong person. They travel in packs ranging from 2 to 20, which I love because I love being surrounded by my good friends and family - but I dislike being around a bunch of strangers. They mainly live in small family groups: Mommy, Daddy, and pups. I definitely like that. A lot of importance in the group is placed on the pups, which is good for me. I love children, and I want to be a Neo-Natal Nurse. Children come first. They avoid other wolves, unless for mating. I can be pretty shy at first, avoiding a lot of people.

I don’t think there is an animal I can relate more to than the Arctic Wolf, and I’m happy it was chosen.

#416 - flipflop_diva - Northern Burrowing Owl

When I started this process, I never thought I would find a connection in a bird, yet the second I started researching the Northern Burrowing Owl, I knew I had been wrong about that. This owl is the perfect form for my animagus.

For one, the Northern Burrowing Owl lives where I live - in Texas, which is awesome, because I’m really happy here. I love hot weather, hate being cold and while rain is good every now and then, I am not moving to Portland any time soon. My owl also prefers this type of weather.

I am also a total night person, although I also prefer to be awake in the daytime. The Northern Burrowing Owl is active in the day, sleeps through the mid-afternoon (yay for naps!) and then goes out to hunt at night. This is good, because it would be nice to use my form at all hours of the day, and this would allow me to do so.

More than the weather and sleeping habits, though, the Northern Burrowing Owl has a lot of traits that I most like about myself. It’s a social creature to an extent - it usually mates for life, which I really like, and is good around humans and human contact, but it is also a little on the shy side, which is how I am too. I can enjoy being alone, but I also love being around people. With this as my animagus form, I also have both of these options at my disposal.

The Northern Burrowing Owl is also intelligent and resourceful, two more traits I pride myself on. This owl is smart enough to be able to burrow shelter for itself when none is found, using whatever is around as its burrowing tool. It’s also a kind animal, rarely aggressive, which I like. I think I am a kind person and I’m not usually aggressive unless I need to be, to protect myself or others, which is how the owl operates as well.

Last, I really wanted an animagus form that could do something I, as a human, can’t do. Flying and burrowing definitely qualify, and I can’t say I’m not excited to see how it would feel to fly. It is something I have always wondered about. I also wanted a form that was cute or beautiful, and the owl is definitely a cutie. It’s very expressive, and that is great, too, because I would be able to use that to still communicate with people when I am in my animagus state.

Altogether, I really think this is the perfect form for me - from temperament to living conditions to sleeping hours. I’m excited to have this form, and I am so glad it was picked for me.

#417 - rosy_nic - Sitatunga

It was a very hard choice to choose my animagus from the options chosen, each were beautiful animals in their own right, but I have chosen my form to be a Sitatunga.

The reason I chose my form, was as I re-read through my application I saw the main points that were camouflage to hide from predators which the Sitatunga is good at with hiding under water near to where it lives on the swamp with living in this swamp environment there are good swimmers which is like me as I like swimming and calm water which swamps have relativity calm water.

They also have been known to sleep underwater to hide from predators, which is another great skill to have.

it also very colourful with its coats differing in colours for the males and females, this plays to my love of bright colours like yellow, pink, white and blue. The coat that they have is also vey water proof when they are in the swamp areas looking for their food.

The Sitatunga are active during the morning, like most Antelope which is the coolest part of the day in Central Africa which they live, as I said in my application I’m a morning person as I like to get things done in the morning as the day light is the best time see things at their best including plants, animals and housework

I also said in my applications I was not a fan of the colder weather, Sitatunga life in Central Africa which can be the hottest places of the earth as it near to the equator and covers countries like Kenya and Botswana

Sitatunga are also herd animals, so they stick groups of females which would help me becoming outgoing, as I would be around a close group of my kind and know how to behave in certain situations.

With these qualities of the Sitatunga, I have chosen it as my animagus as I feel a stronger connection to it than the other animals chosen for me.

#418 - goatcharmer - Black-billed Magpie

The Animagus option I'm going with is the Black-billed Magpie. I think the Black-billed Magpie fits me in a lot of different ways.

Like the magpie, I am a social creature. I certainly seek security among my many friends and family, as magpies do when they roost together in the winter months. Just like me, they like to stay warm. Magpies are also known for being friendly birds, but they know better than to return to the hand that bites me. In areas where they are treated kindly by humans, they will be tame and even take food from people's hands. They are trusting and willing to cooperate if given a reason. But in areas where they are treated poorly, they will become wary and even aggressive. This also fits me, because while I love meeting new people and I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, I am definitely once bitten, twice shy. If somebody gives me a reason to not trust them, I will try to avoid them, or situations in which they could do me harm.

Black-billed magpies are monogamous birds. They mate young and for life, unless their mate dies, in which case they find a new mate. I consider myself a very monogamous person. I don't stay with a person unless I can see myself being with them for the rest of my life, which fortunately I can with my SO. Magpies will defend themselves, their mate and their nest from outside attackers, which I am definitely willing to do. If you hurt the person I love, or others that I care for, I'm not going to sit down and just let you get away with it.

These birds are very talkative, and have a large vocabulary. Which is to say, they can and do mimic many sounds. I am also a very talkative person (just like magpies, this can sometimes get annoying) and I have a large vocabulary. Since magpies can mimic human speech and I would retain my mind, I would be able to talk to people even in my Animagus shape. This would be very useful, and would allow me to continue talking all the time!

#419 - flyingharmony - Canada Lynx

I hear my parents whisper at the other end of the big flat and I understand what they're saying, I can hear dog whistles and sometimes even the ultrasonic things you plug in to dispel mosquitos. My dad always says "A lynx belongs in a nursing home for hearing impaired compared to you!"

I love when it's cold and I love snow, so I chose to be a Canada Lynx.

The lynx prefers to lie in ambush rather than to hunt openly, so it appears that he seems to be a rather smart animal, considering that he is actually thinking about how to obtain his food. He's a thinker, a strategist, just as I am. We both are able to "hunt" openly, to approach situations direclty, but we prefer to think. This is what makes us very much alike.

Also, the lynx is mostly a nocturnal animal. I have been a night owl since my day of birth and I still am - I just feel more comfortable at night, and I am always more productive when it's all dark and quiet. I sometimes just feel too rushed when it's day and everyone else is awake. Of course I am also active at day (sometimes I'm forced to, but I am), just as the lynx. But we both seem to prefer the night.

The more I think about being a Canada Lynx in my Animagus form, the more I feel connected to him and I really, really do look forward to register the Canada Lynx as my official Animagus form.

#420 - scatteredintime - Cape Fox

Me, My Fox And A Billowing Cape

When I saw the possible choices for my animagus form, I was beyond overwhelmed. They were all so perfect and I had a really hard time choosing a form. I was attracted to one form especially because of former attraction but it wasn't my fox. I was convinced that that form would be mine, even though I was torn about it. Did I want that form? Did I really not want the fox that seemed so cool? I had almost decided. And then I started my research.

BAM! Fallen in love. With the cape fox. Easy as that!

When I saw the first picture of a cape fox, I was absolutely smitten. This was my form. It had to be. There was no way around it.

My fox and I just fit.

First of all, it's a nocturnal animal. I'm extremely nocturnal and am usually up until early morning. I love the time between dusk and 3am and my research brought that up as well. The cape fox is most active just before dawn or after dusk. See? That's how we fit.

Foxes in general are playful beings, but still careful and a little shy in the beginning. I'm no different there. I am quite playful when I want to be and I am very careful around people when I first meet them. See? That's how we fit.

Additionally, cape foxes are rather small. Now, foxes aren't huge anyway, but cape foxes are small for foxes. Again, it's perfect, because I am rather short as well. See? That's how we fit.

What strikes me as the most funny resemblance between us is the food behaviour. This may not seem very relevant but for me it is. I like eating. I love food. It's plays a big role in my life (as any Ravenclaw can attest to). Cape foxes are omnivores and while they prefer some things, they have the opportunistic tendency to feed on what is available. I myself am pretty similar. Now, I may not eat everything, but I have a startling tendency to eat whatever is available in the house. See? That's how we fit. Again!

Now, these similarities and resemblances may not be a lot, but I did say I fell in love with my cape fox. I want an animagus form that is cute and huggly and fluffy looking and I suggest you all go look at pictures of cape fox pups. They're the cutest thing in the world. Maybe you shouldn't exactly hug a fox, but come on. Can you deny those cutiepies anything? I certainly can't. I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them and I wouldn't want any other form.

And besides all that? The billowing cape that comes with the fox. Darkwing Duck has nothing on us.

#421 - pickle_breath - Eastern Grey Squirrel

Dear Eastern Squirrel,
I am writing to you today, to ask you a favor. I have been watching you my dear. I've noticed you skittering around my local parks, scurrying up trees, begging with those beady eyes for scraps of picnic food. you are an amazing creature; almost always present in our human daily lives but never acknowledged. Oh how many secrets have been spilled in your presence! You are beloved by children, chasing and playing games with them makes them adore you. I must admit, though I did not know until recently, I love you as well.

I'm sorry if this seems forward or rash, but I would love to represent you in the wizarding world as an animagus. You see, I've recently applied to become an animagus- a wonderfully complicated piece of witchcraft and the board of review saw it fit to offer you as one of my possible forms. We share many similiar qualities. We both love the eastern united states, and the cooler weather it offers. I concur with the board that we share a love for food, are both hoarders and I'm sure you will agree- we're adorable. My dear Eastern Squirrel, may you grant me permission to be you in the wizarding world?
I look forward to your hasty and thoughtful reply.
ever yours,

#422 - quiescent - Narwhal

Narwhals: The Unicorns of the Sea

Between my four choices, I was really torn about which Animagus form best suits me. It took a long time, and after many discussions and introspecting, I have decided that the Narwhal IS PERFECT. I'm actually really excited thinking about it!

Narwhals are mysterious. Very little is known about them such as their mating habits, tusk usage, and feeding habits even. Only recently have scientists been able to understand these creatures better than before. Like them, I'm a pretty private person until one gets to know me better. They are also legendary creatures like the sea monsters I have a connection to and are fascinated by. During the medieval times, the people thought Narwhals were the Unicorns of the Sea due to their long and spirally tusks. And, that quite frankly, makes me feel very special.

I see myself as a fierce, ambitious, driven, and motivated person who is also very sweet, kind, loyal, and gentle. The narwhal is gentle and kind along with its calm nature, but fiercely protective of its groups. A narwhal won't "hurt" or attack back unless provoked. Again, that's how I act, and I was very excited to read that they do the same. Narwhals travel hundreds of miles in small packs of around five to ten, which suits me perfectly. Like I wrote on my application, I prefer a small group in which I get to know the people well. Narwhals are also ambitious! They travel hundreds of miles to their preferred locations that they've found for themselves. They won't settle on just any location, but the specific ones they have picked. That's exactly me! I care about what I want, and I won't settle for anything less.

Narwhals usually take their time going places, slowly breathing and rolling, but when chased, they are remarkably quick. This really speaks to me because I wrote in my application that my worst trait was living in the future too much. Of course, my goal is to definitely change that. Here, the narwhal exactly represents what I strive for. Additionally, I wanted an animagus that was not weak or meek, and could escape from their predators and/or defend themselves. Narwhals are the deepest divers known among mammals. They can dive at least 2,500 feet more than ten times per day. Records have shown them to dive 5,400 feet! The entire dive takes them approximately twenty-five minutes. Narwhals are really adaptive, and like me, can adjust to their environment easily. I was really happy to read that about them as well.

All in all, I am fortunate to be able to choose the narwhal as my animagus. It shows my "soft side" but also exemplifies my keen-ness amongst other traits like the shark and the Giant Squid (which, by the way, speculation has it that narwhals are the only natural predators to the Giant Squid!).

#423 - dana1130 - Nubian Giraffe

A Silent, But Strong, Giraffe

Giraffes are extremely tall animals, placed in their own family called the Giraffidae with only the Okapi and extinct relatives joining it. Giraffes are, however, closely related to deer and camels. They also have four stomachs, like cows. There are seven main spot patterns on Giraffes, but the patterns are just for identification. Each spot pattern on every giraffe is completely unique to that giraffe, much like human fingerprints.
Giraffes travel in ‘groups’ that are characterized as "a collection of individuals that are less than a kilometer apart and moving in the same general direction.” In other words, giraffes travel together, but not ‘together’. This, I think, is a huge representation of my personality. I have an extremely small group of friends; I only have four close friends outside of my family members. A giraffe’s life of solitude in the way they choose to congregate is outstandingly similar to my behavior, as well.
Incidentally, their mating process is kind of funny. Males literally court the females and the females pick the best, most dominant partner. There’s obviously a few more things that go on here, but it makes me laugh because I’ve done the same thing with my life. I know many people have many different sexual partners, and I’m not one of those people. However, I had many, many, boyfriends before I settled on my current, amazing, one. It’s not that I love to get my heart stomped on or anything, it’s that I wanted to see who would be best for me, and what type of person would be best for me. You have to kiss a lot of frogs, and that’s exactly what giraffes do. They wait it out for as long as possible until they find the best possible match.
Another thing about giraffes is that they don’t seem to make any sounds. However, many studies show that they do, in fact, make sounds. “Although generally quiet and non-vocal, giraffes have been heard to communicate with various sounds. Courting males will emit loud coughs. Females will call their young by whistling or bellowing. Calves will bleat, moo, or make mewing sounds. In addition, giraffes will grunt, snort, hiss, or make strange flute-like sounds. Recent research has provided evidence that the giraffes produce infrasound.” Infrasound is sound that isn’t audible to humans, much like dog whistles are not audible to humans, but will hurt dogs’ ears. This is also something that I find similar about myself and giraffes. I’m a Gryffindor, so you would think that that would automatically make me a loud, vocal person. However, I think I’m a Slytherdor at heart in that while I can be loud, I’m also extremely quiet at times, waiting to plan an attack and thinking my way through things. Giraffes do not make sounds that are audible under normal circumstances, which is what I do. I don’t normally speak up, I’m much more content to remain the somewhat invisible person. However, giraffes will make extremely loud noises when they are in danger of a predator, and I will do the same. Not only would I scream my head off if someone was trying to kill me, I also become very vocal at things that receive my intense distaste. I do not let anyone walk on me for anything. It will be the absolute last thing that you do. Giraffes don’t take any nonsense from any lions trying to sneak up on them at all.
Overall, I think the Nubian Giraffe is my perfect match. I am a silent creature, but strong at heart, just like a giraffe.

#424 - kitrinlu - Gentoo Penguin

After a lengthy deliberation, and asking for input from people both online and IRL, I settled on the Gentoo penguin. It was definitely the option that appealed to me most from the beginning, but I wanted to make sure it was the right choice.

In terms of physical appearance, the Gentoo penguin is definitely a good fit. In shape, I tend towards round and chunky, which is pretty penguin-shaped. Also, Gentoo penguins have a wide white stripe that extends from around their eyes across the top of their head, which would represent not only my glasses, but also my current hair style, which has a layer of pink going around the back of my head. While Gentoo penguins are predominantly black and white, they are known for having bright orange-red bills, a small splash of colour somewhat like the pink in my hair.

Gentoo penguins live on sub-Antarctic islands, which is perfect for me, since I love the cold and the snow. They can move about both on land and in the water, which is something I really wanted, although they're somewhat uncoordinated on land, which is also a trait that I share. I love swimming and being in the water, so a penguin is an excellent choice for me. I also said in my app that I'd love to be able to fly but am scared of heights, so a penguin is a perfect choice in that regard - penguins essentially "fly" through the water when swimming, and as one of the voters mentioned, they also slide on the ice on their bellies, which would be a lot like flying without leaving the ground, and also a lot of fun.

Gentoo penguins make nests out of piles of stones, which they collect and hoard. I'm definitely a hoarder, and like to keep things even when they seem to have no actual value. Male females will sometimes gift particularly nice stones to females, and while I'm not really into the whole courtship/dating thing, it is pretty easy to make me like you by giving me presents.

Gentoo penguins are also quite cautious, which definitely fits me well. I found an account on a website of young Gentoos learning to swim - they took it slowly, edging into the water and often running back onto the beach if a big wave came up at them. The writer contrasted this with Adelie penguins, who all line up on the water's edge then jump straight in. When trying something new, I'd definitely take a Gentoo approach.

Finally, Gentoo penguins nurture their young, at least until they're old enough to be left alone, and I love spending time with and taking care of kids. And the diet of Gentoo penguins is primarily fish, crustaceans and squid, which is great because I love seafood.

Basically, the Gentoo penguin is a perfect fit for me, and I'm really happy with having it as my animagus form :)

#425 - veilingofthesun - Golden Jackal

One of my preferences when applying to be an animagus was that my form be unique and vivid -- I didn't want something plain. Thus, it may seem strange that I've picked the Golden Jackal. It may seem that out of all four of my choices, the Golden Jackal is in fact the least extraordinary; however, after doing a little research and delving into the history and associations of this creature, it is apparent that there is more to her than meets the eye, and that she is indeed a very good fit for my personality and preferences.

The Golden Jackal can be found throughout South Asian areas, and this fits me absolutely perfectly because India is so very much a part of me! The climate and weather of South Asia can vary greatly, so Golden Jackals must be very adaptable creatures, and I consider myself to be an adaptable being; I go with the flow and do what I need to do to get along. South Asia is also home to the thrilling kind of weather that I prefer, and jackals seem to adapt to these changes fairly well.

When it comes to relations with other animals, jackals have some very interesting things going for them that I feel that I can relate to. Jackals are apparently extremely protective of their young -- I know that the vast majority of animals are like this, but it seems even more important to these creatures because, according to some youtube videos about jackals that I watched, they sometimes have ~"helper" jackals who are there to help with raising/protecting pups -- it's a very important aspect of their existence. I feel like I can relate to this because I'm very protective of my family (and on somewhat of a side note, I would certainly be that way to the point of being vicious if matters called for it). Jackals also sometimes feed on carrion -- and while this is obviously not directly tied to my own habits (lol), I think it represents something more than just a vulture-like tendency... I was pondering this, and it comes across to me as simply being opportunistic (which goes hand-in-hand with being adaptable, imo).

Jackals are also very important in mythology and symbolism in many parts of the world. They are portrayed as psychopomps in some traditions, including Egyptian, Shaivist, Vajrayanist, and Gnostic religions, responsible for guiding souls on their journeys after this life. In Egyptian mythology, Anubis is a jackal-headed god; in Hindu Shaivism, Shiva's original name was Rudra, which means "the howler," which most probably meant the howl of a jackal (especially considering Shiva's importance in cremation ground culture and the abundance of jackals near these areas); and really, the list goes on. I'm not saying that I'm likening myself to a psychopomp or anything like that, haha. But I am definitely very interested in these kinds of things; I'm an avid obsesser student of religious studies, and I can't help but fall in love with some of these mysterious associations.

All in all, it seems as though the jackal, and the Golden Jackal in particular, being of the more common variety of jackals, is a somewhat negatively received omen; however, that is not at all how I see this creature. I see an intelligent, opportunistic animal who makes the most of what is given to her, adapts to her surroundings, is deeply protective of those who are important to her, and is unique in that she is much more than what she seems to be at first glance. I'm honored to have the Golden Jackal as my animagus form. ;)
