#009 - coaltrain_613 - White Pigeon

The pigeon is one of gods many beautiful and misunderstood creatures and I too believe describes me for many reasons. The pigeon has always got the reputation of just being the bird that old people feed at the park if there were no ducks, but the pigeon has many glorious qualities that no other bird has… like me! The pigeon is special because there is such variety in the way they look if you notice them.

Compare to other species the pigeon can have mostly any color as feathers, this describes me well because I’m an actor who loves to look, and become different with many styles and roles I perform. Pigeons are special because they have been recorded to fly about 50 mph which is awesome because I always wanted to fly and travel long distances to see far away places because learning about new cultures and lifestyles has always fascinated me. The pigeon and I have great “homing skills” because when we are both lost and don’t know what to do in life, we can always realize and find the safety of our home. I love the idea of becoming a pigeon because we can be home pets and still be set free because unlike the parrot or canary…only PIGEONS can be set free to fly and will come back home making us very close with our family and friends. Also pigeons have the ability to see color and ultraviolet light…which to me is always cool because even humans can’t see ultraviolet light!

The appetite of the pigeon is so like mine…WE LOVE FOOD…and that’s how I like my animals. The male pigeon makes the sound coo roo-c'too-coo…which to me is so fun to attempt to do. Pigeons usually have TWO CHILDREN…and as a coincidence so do I. The male pigeon takes care of the children during the day while the female is taking care of herself and getting food for the young, and as a FATHER I kind of wanted to be a stay at home dad. The only enemies that pigeons have besides a 18-Wheeler are other birds who are predators like the hawk or falcon, just like me with the deceiving people in my life. There are so many other characteristics that I share with the pigeon but many of them you distinctly pointed out and I acknowledge that they seem like typical me.

#057 - magnitude9 - Siberian Husky

With a wolf-like appearance that can at times appear a bit intimidating to some, a Siberian Husky is a breed of dog that is friendly, loyal, willful, and at times, stubborn. They will not necessarily act just to please others (such as its owner), needing to find a greater reason for what they are to be doing. Yet, with a gentle, agreeable temperament, they can get along with a vast variety of people from young to old. Huskies, if given unrestrained freedom, would most assuredly take advantage of that. They are not usually prone to barking and are therefore quiet dogs, but do “talk” in soft sounds, and also can exhibit howling behavior because they are pack oriented.

Like a Siberian Husky, I exhibit these traits in my own fashion. Huskies tend to inadvertently deter others because of its appearance and intense personality, and it is not obvious what the Husky’s true essence of nature is (that being a friendly, easy-going nature). I can appear unfriendly, maybe even intimidating, simply because I’m generally very quiet and keep to myself. In truth, I’m really quite friendly to everyone as long as they’re friendly to me, and I’m generally agreeable, with exceptions of things I hold very dear to my heart and strong values I hold. This is just not very obvious to see. Yet I love and care for those that are close to me more than anything in the world, and feel and cherish these bonds deeply. They are my “pack.” Furthermore, I will not blindly follow someone-even my pack-mates-and do what they tell me to do simply to please them. I need greater meanings than that; life is about living it my own way, not someone else’s. I definitely will not follow them if something they are doing doesn’t seem right to me. Like a husky, my spirit is independent. I like to have unrestrained freedom, or at the very least, enough freedom to live my life to be happy, even if in truth wherever my pack-mates are, that’s where I am most content with life. But, I can’t stand to feel like I’m being controlled, and if I feel that way, I’m not likely to be particularly easy-going anymore.

There are more surface comparisons that like a husky, I thrive more in colder weather and heat can be bothersome. They also consume less food than dogs of their size and activity level, and I would say I am similar. I get full relatively easily, and don’t have any particular need for three meals a day, despite the fact I’m actually taller than many people that I know who consume more food than I do.

Overall, while there have been a couple things I have read about the Siberian Husky that contradicts my character, I feel that the essence of their personality is similar to mine and that is what I believe is important here. The difference of traits is what makes us the individuals that we are, whether a particular individual is human, or a particular dog breed

#059 - astronomychica - Peregrine Falcon

The Peregrine Falcon is a bird of prey. It is a medium sized bird, with a wingspan of about three feet. They are able to dive at great lengths and speeds to catch their prey. I see me doing this, not literally, in the near future with the Air Force or Navy. The falcon is a very intense, territorial bird. They protect their nests and young. I too, am very protective of my "nest" and my family...not necessarily my young, but those who I babysit for.

The Peregrine Falcon is a wandering bird, and the name "peregrine" means wanderer, which is interesting because that's what I've been told my name means as well (this is just hearsay). The hawks travel vast distances from home to hunt, and young hawks travel to find mates. They will stick with one mate when they have first mated. I'm the same way. When I find someone I like, I am willing to do almost whatever it takes to make sure I can keep them with me for a long period of time. I also want to travel from home. I want to explore the country and hopefully world around me, which hawks do as well.

With many other attributes and characteristics, I can see myself related to hawks in many ways. Not just because of their intensity, but their beauty and grace as well. They are able to perform aerial maneuvers that we humans can only watch and be in awe. For these reasons, this is why I think I am truly like a hawk.

#060 - batkisses - North American Porcupine

A common myth about the porcupine is that it has sharp quills and therefore it must shoot them out in attack. This is not true. A porcupine does have sharp quills (one might have up to 30,000), but it does not throw them out in attack. A porcupine’s quills are actually its defense. If a predator approaches, the porcupine will turn its back, raise the quills and aim at the threat with its tail. If the target is hit, the quills then detach easily from the skin to remain embedded in the attacker.

This is one way in which I am similar to the North American Porcupine. I have a wall of defense that I will put up when threatened, but I am not aggressive. It is my protection.

Another misconception about the porcupine is that since it moves slowly and is nearsighted that it must be not very intelligent. This has also been found to be not true when research showed they were able to make their way through complex mazes and remember them for many days afterwards. Porcupines are just animals of leisure really. They like to take their time.

This is also very much like myself. I am nearsighted (I have the glasses to prove it) and like to move along at my own pace. In the past while I was in school I was even called stupid because of these things (you know how cruel kids can be sometimes). Now though I graduated school with a pretty decent average, so I proved them wrong just as the porcupine proved the researchers wrong.

Some season behaviours of the porcupine are that it doesn’t hibernate in the Winter, but it sleeps a lot and keeps close to its den. Porcupines are mainly active during the night; and on Summer days, they often rest in trees. Porcupines also breed in the Autumn and the young porcupine (usually one) is born in the Spring.

Even in this can I find myself relating to the porcupine. I don’t hibernate in the Winter either, but I like to stay indoors as much as possible. In the Summer, though I am probably more active, it can relate back to leisure time too, and I wouldn’t turn down a nice relaxing rest in a hammock. As far as breeding is concerned I have no children of my own to compare this to, but in a way it connects because I do see Autumn as a time for harvest and Spring a time for things to come in bloom. The expression “birth of Spring” comes to mind here.

All in all it seems the porcupine and I share the same essence. I can see myself acting the way he would act in many situations.
I think the next time someone wants to know why I’m not in any particular hurry to get something done, I’ll be like Frank Sinatra and say I did it my way. The porcupine way.

#061 - queenofnarnia - Red Deer

When I saw that I had, in fact, been voted as a red deer, I immediately attached myself to that one. People think of deer as being these silly, pretty things that slip on ice and get shot by hunters to only have their heads mounted on walls. But they are forces of nature that have proved to be far more than the cute, doe-eyed Bambi we all know.

I relate to this one in particular because they are physically strong, and clearly know this. I am very confident that I am capable of protecting myself. I've got a good deal of muscle but still look graceful so I know that morphing into a red deer would not be something completely unheard of.

They are survivors. They survived through the ice age, have survived massive amounts of hunters. We've all had horrible things happen in our lives that have the potential to break us, and I am no different. I have faced many trials, more than most people my age, but have still come out of it no worse for the ware, maybe even stronger. The females are incredibly protective of the other deer in their group, and even more so of their young. I relate to this because I would do anything for my friends, and know that when the day comes that I have children, I would die to keep them safe. Even now I am protective of the younger members of my family, my sister and my cousins, even some of my sister's friends I'd throw a punch for.

They have true freedom, living in almost every area of the world. (I was thrilled to find out they live in my two favorite countries: New Zealand and Ireland) They are fast and strong, and can simply run. I always am seeking freedom, just knowing that if I want, I can break away and feel the wind blowing through my hair and get that rush that only true liberation can deliver. To be something so pure and delicate at first glance, but truly a survivor who no adversity can throw down would really reflect on how I see myself.

#062 - orpheous87 - Pipistrelle Bat

The thing I have most in common with bats is the nocturnal nature of them. I much prefer to stay up late on a night than to get up early on a morning. I have a very hard time getting out of bed on a morning, but I have no problems staying up until all hours. Of course I can’t do that so much when I’m starting work at 8am, but I stay up until the early hours on a weekend.
Plus I guess the fact that bats don’t generally have good vision and tend to rely on their echo location is something else I have in common with them because I am VERY shortsighted and need to wear contact lenses to see anything at a distance, but I have good peripheral vision. This could be something to do with playing ice hockey and having to be aware of where things around me are exactly, I don’t know, but it’s useful. For example, I can walk through the office where I work, with my head down looking through a file and not bump into anything or anyone (unless they deliberately jump in my way but most of them are sensible enough not to do that).
I’m also quite short, which is quite similar to the pipistrelle bat as they are the smallest species of bat in the country, but size can be deceptive. Pipistrelle bats are capable of brilliant flying, and can quite comfortably handle large insects. Quite similar to when I play roller hockey with the senior men - a lot of them are MUCH bigger than me, but I can hold my own with them.

#065 - hothobbit - Calico Cat

Cats conserve energy by sleeping more than most animals just as I sleep more than most other people. Cats are also known for their fastidious cleanliness. I have often been accused of being anal retentive. I am also mislabeled as “solitary” just as cats are. Cats and I take care of our basic needs on our own, but that is not the same thing as being asocial. I, like cats are really very social but we do not have a “pack mentality.” We are actually highly social and affectionate but are not required to be social to survive. We enjoy the company of others but also do very well on our own. Also, I am not an extremist. I try to see every side of a situation. The calico’s coat which is comprised of many colors instead of just one is an excellent representation of this fact. Calico cats are typically female as well, and I am female. Cats are also known to be exceptionally intelligent, adorable, cuddly, lovable, and cute…as am I. Like me, cats also give plenty of warning to anyone who is annoying them and will run away if there is an escape route. They only attack when warnings are ignored and there is no escape route. I do the same. But even though we try to avoid attacking, beware if we are forced to attack. Our teeth and claws are very sharp. We are also both very affectionate with those we trust and we love to cuddle.

#068 - jmljasmine - Budyonny Horse

The Budyonny horse and I have many connections and traits in common. The similarities begin with expressions becoming apparent in the face. I have been accused often of this and found that the Budyonny horse is the same way. In addition, as these horses are kept in herds, free to run, I also do best in groups. I find that if I’m alone too long or confined in a small area, such as my apt. in the city I can develop depression as these horses develop character problems. I need the area of the country and fresh air. While Budyonny horses thrive in groups, when it comes to giving trust to an owner, it takes time. They build a trust in the owner and become very loyal. Just as I like to have a lot of interaction with others, I don’t tend to form a strong trust in someone quickly.

When I read that Budyonny horses were good with difficult grounds, I couldn’t help but think about all the times I’ve ventured out onto rocky group to explore and hike. While doing this I would not go beyond where I was confident and get myself into danger. The intelligence of Budyonnys would prevent them from doing this also.

In addition to this I have always enjoyed horses and riding them. They seem to be an animal I bond well with and would love to own one day. This naturally requires me to live in an area more accommodating to horses then the city, which I would be much happier in anyway.

#072 - _shaomao_ - Emperor Penguin

I relate to The Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) in many different ways.Emperor Penguins are social animals, both foraging and nesting in groups. I myself am a very social person and always prefer to go out in groups instead of alone, or just with a few people. Strength in numbers is a motto I live by and the emperor penguins travel, live, and huddle together in groups. In severe weather the penguins huddle together for protection. You will never see me with out 2 hoodies, a down jacket, hat, scarf and at least two pairs of gloves. While I love the snow I do not love the cold. However I hate the heat more than anything. Penguins can be active either in the day time or night time and much like myself are much more active at night. I am far from a morning person.

In response to the cold, emperor penguins stand in compact huddles (This is also known as the turtle formation) ranging in size between ten and many hundreds of birds, each leaning forward on a neighbor. Those on the outside tend to shuffle slowly around the edge of the turtle producing a slow churning action, giving each bird a turn on the inside and the outside. I was in the military for 9 years and there have been many times we have had to group together to keep warm or even try and prevent frost bite. Just like the penguins and how they each take turns being on the outside of the circle, I too have taken my turn putting my battle buddy and dearest friends feet up against my belly in order to prevent him from getting frost bite.

Emperor penguins are serially monogamous. They have only one mate, and keep faithfully to that one other penguin. This is the trait that I connect with strongest. I believe in soul mates and that there is that one person out there for each of us. Once a penguin finds a mate it stays with them til the end.
The penguin has also been my favorite animal for as long as I can remember and I have always felt a special connection to them.

#074 - livebythebooks - Northern Raccoon

I was offered the chance to be a Giant Asian Mantis, a Nile Crocodile, a British Shorthair or a Northern Raccoon. Each of these animals appealed to me in one way or another- the Mantis is basically God of the Insect World, the Croc is a man-eater (make you work hard, spend hard, make you want all of her love), and the Shorthair is one hell of a pretty kitty, but when it came down to it, the Raccoon appealed to me in every way.

They are mostly nocturnal creatures, though the one kit I had the pleasure to spend a week with was up at all hours and ready to rock n’ roll. I have an infatuation with the dark- it scares, thrills, and comforts me at the same time- and as I am a high school senior, I have a tendency to spend most of it awake.

Raccoons travel in small groups (my family unit is comprised of three members) and are as good in the water and they are in the trees. I was born in Hawaii and have always loved the oceans as well as the weightless freedom I experience whilst swimming. I was also an avid climber as a child and have the scars to prove it.

Raccoons have a tendency to “wash” their food before eating it. While I was visiting my aunt, I watched the Mulch (what my small, second cousins named the kit she was taking care of) eat and he never failed to dip his kibble into his water dish before swallowing it. I am obsessive-compulsive about cleanliness. My room is in varying degrees of perfection (I can never keep up with the dusting) at all times and I carry hand-sanitizer in my purse. Raccoons and Evian for germ-free society!

They’re very curious creatures (yet cautious as well) and from my experience, friendly (it’s only after they’re first hibernation that they become ass-kickers). The Mulch didn’t hesitate to stuff his nose down my blouse or attempt to knead my bosom (the little pervert), but when he wasn’t molesting me- he was tramping around the yard and clinging to my ankles. I’m open to new experiences, but I always think of possible consequences. My best friends will tell you that I’m a stick in the mud, but don’t believe them- I know how to kick back. I’m touchy-feely, always slinging an arm around someone’s shoulders or hugging them- I’m actually something of a pervert as well, but we won’t go into that.

The similarities between the Northern Raccoon and myself are uncanny. While I don’t have a ringed-tail, I’ve been known to don a mask (whether it be my heavy-rimmed glasses or my iceberg personality- there’s more beneath the surface) and I won’t hesitate to mess you up, Death Eaters.

#077 - honest_illusion - Central American Jaguar

The Jaguar is an animal that is strong, intelligent, ambitious, versatile, and elegant in a wicked manner. By stating the top characteristics of a Jaguar, I just described myself in a nutshell.

From early childhood, the Jaguar individual will exhibit the desire for near constant change. Whilst their peers are busy with sports and socializing, the Jaguar cub will be immersed in understanding mysteries that others may perceive as “dark” or dangerous. When operating from lower personality center as an adult, the interest in the destructive side of magical knowledge and practice will continue and intensify, with these individuals becoming amongst the most powerful of sorcerers and sorceresses.

I have an ample amount of both intelligence and ambition. Just because something is considered forbidden and unfamiliar will not stop me from learning what I could about it. In fact, I tend to be more attracted to something that is not part of the mainstream. In every group, I’ve always been that individual who likes to stand out. I love having an edge over others. I like being known and remembered for my unique style and contributions. I am not ashamed to say that power is important to me, and that I would do everything to acquire more of it and use it to the best of my abilities. I believe that we have control over our destiny and we must make the best out of what life gave us - were it be good or bad. All of us have the power to succeed and reach our goals as long as we keep the faith in our abilities, continuously harness our skills, and keep our eyes on our goals.

They will drive themselves to the point of physical, mental or emotional exhaustion until the breaking point is reached. Then, once they have burned themselves to the ground, they will arise much like the Phoenix of legend, in a new form with new eyes and a new cycle awaiting them.

I consider myself to be versatile. I am very good in dealing with changes. In a lot of ways, I crave changes. Routine bores me to no end. I like dealing with different things frequently. I do enjoy my comfort zone, but broadening my horizons is also a must. There are times when the routine gets too much that I deliberately do something to turn things around just for excitement’s sake. When it comes to the hardships I had gone through, I’ll be angry, frustrated, and sad for a short while, but venting to my closest friends and creative endeavors will get me back on track almost immediately. For me, all of us have our own set of problems to deal with. It’s either we let them break us, or we deal and do away with them. Sink or swim. I prefer to swim.

I am also very skilled in multi-tasking. I like being involved in several projects at once - managing to give then each the focus they deserve. I detest being idle. I must always have a goal in mind and taking steps towards them, in one way or another. My goals, of course, are not always serious. Some of them can be considered to be quite amusing and even shallow, but for me, goals are goals, and they must be achieved.

As a highly sensual individual, these are souls who are enthralled with the beauty and diversity of life, from the brilliant colors, patterns and hues of a sunset, to the aroma of a rose in bloom, to the physical attractiveness of a potential mate.

I am admittedly vain. I like being surrounded by beautiful things. I like creating beauty. I like being complimented and appreciated. I am not vain in the sense that fashion and cosmetics are at the top of my list. In fact, I would prefer being deemed as beautiful in a natural manner. Personally, I don’t think that beauty is all about appearance alone. It’s about confidence and drive - it’s about knowing yourself enough to know what you really want in life and how to get it.

In conclusion, I am very much a Jaguar because we are both warriors. We know that being a warrior does not mean fighting when the fight isn’t necessary; that just because you are powerful and independent does not mean you have to do everything by yourself. Being a solitary fighter is alright, but sometimes, you’d have to learn how to trust your pack and let them fight by your side too.

#079 - yellowallamanda - Barn Swallow

Forgive me for any grammar/structure mistakes. English's not my native language, and even though I tried to make it flawless, I may have messed up.

Barn swallows are swift and graceful fliers. I’m far from graceful, but out of modesty, I can be rather fast. I’m usually one of the first people to get into places as for some reason, my pace seems to be faster them most people’s. Unfortunately, the slang meaning of swift wouldn’t describe me, though, as I’m not really clever.

Barn swallows have long migrations. I would like to know new, distant, places but due to some problems in my life, I can’t do it. This long migrations also makes me think of someone stubborn. I’m stubborn with sometimes is something good, as I may never give up of what I think it’s important to me, and other times gets me into trouble, as I may not give up on things that will hurt me eventually.

Barn swallows are also said to be whimsical (I had a hard time to get to understand the meaning of this word). I’m pretty careful to don’t hurt people or damage things. Unfortunately, in the end I manage hurting/damaging them anyways.

And obviously, barn swallows fly and as I mentioned before migrate. I don’t fly, of course, but I would love flying by myself, without any help of equipments. And their migrations reminds me of my changeable, in some cases even a bit erratic personality for some reason. Like a bird that migrates to somewhere else, my feelings and thoughts changes, depending on the situation. Eventually returning in most cases.

And on a silly note, we eat while we are doing things.

These are the reasons that makes me think that barn swallows may be similar to me.

#080 - lotrangel17 - Pfeffer's Flamboyant Cuttlefish

Facts about the Pfeffer's Flamboyant Cuttlefish

The Pfeffer's Flamboyant Cuttlefish is a species of cuttlefish found in tropical waters off northern Australia, southern New Guinea, as well as islands of Indonesia and Malaysia. Cuttlefish are not fish but actually mollusks. Recent studies indicate that cuttlefish may be the most intelligent invertebrate species. The Pfeffer's Flamboyant Cuttlefish is the only known cuttlefish known to be poisonous. Cuttlefish are sometimes called the chameleon of the sea because of their remarkable ability to rapidly alter their skin color and texture of their skin at will. Their skin flashes a fast-changing pattern as communication to other cuttlefish and to camouflage them from predators. Cuttlefish glide through the water by gently rippling their skirt-like fins. They have neutral buoyancy and can vary their depth easily by changing the proportion of liquid to air in their internal skeleton. Cuttlefish eyes are among the most developed in the animal kingdom. They also have an unusual shade of green-blue blood which causes their hearts to pump faster because they are less capable of carrying oxygen through their blood. Cuttlefish have ink, like squid and octopuses and when threatened, a cuttlefish will squirt sepia ink into the water and hurry away using a form of jet propulsion. The species is active during the day and has been observed hunting fish and crustaceans. Eggs are laid singly and placed by the female in crevices or ledges in coral, rock, or wood. They are placed there by the female to protect them from predatory fish.

My connection to the Pfeffer's Flamboyant Cuttlefish

I have always loved the water and know that I will live on the water some day. It’s where I am most relaxed and feel at home. The water is someplace where no matter how I feel, I always feel rejuvenated after I’ve been there. This gives me the greatest connection I feel to the Flamboyant Cuttlefish because I would love to live close to Australia. The Flamboyant Cuttlefish has been proven to be the most intelligent of a species and I pride myself on being a very smart person. Intelligence has always been a priority for myself. Even though it took me a few years I finished my college education as an adult in my thirties. The Cuttlefish are a very protective animal and being a Mom its just natural that I am a, shall we say, overly protective person, especially when it comes to my children. I also have to say that since the Cuttlefish is active during the day, I am pretty much the same way. Once the sun goes down, its time to rest and relax for me. In addition, it is said that being around fish or having an aquarium is very soothing and I have been told I have a soothing personality so being some sort of an aquatic mammal as my Animagus is just a given.
